We traveled to Key West in December 2012 to get married. My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay at the Tropical Inn. Brandi, Jane, Allen and everyone on staff were all very helpful with pre-wedding preparation and helping us book excursions, making dinner reservations, etc... The breakfast every morning was delightful. The room was very clean and comfortable. We also rented bikes right there at the Inn... I would highly recommend this B&B.

We've stayed at this property the last three visits. Absolutely love this place and the people that make it special. We've been to KW numerous times and had no problems with other B&B's, but this one felt like 'home'.

Jane, Brandi, Allen have always provided the greatest service you could ask for. We have stayed in the Poinciana, Coconut Cabana and this last time the Banyan Suite. We recommend any but our favorite so far is the Cabana. My sister and her husband traveled with us also and had the Mermaid Escape. They enjoyed the room but did say if noise bothers you, another room might suit your needs better. They were okay with it and loved having the front deck to themselves in the late evening, except when we crashed their party! Next year our tour of rooms will continue with the Conch Courtyard we believe.

They have been updating and remodeling since at least Oct. 2011 that I'm aware of. That is also part of what is special about this place, they do it even though we don't see the need. Everything is clean, the bedding is great. The breakfast are outstanding, we had Key Lime Coffeecake that was beyond description one morning. The decorations for Christmas were lovely. That is part of the reason we went for the Christmas lights and the boat parade.

This is everything we need right in the middle of Duval and can not wait to return 'home'!

Elaine and Bert

Like most, if not all of the reviews, this B&B has a great location in the middle of Duval Street. The owners and staff are very nice, friendly and helpful and the rooms very clean and nicely furnished (we were a group of 4 and had 2 rooms for 3 nights in November). All the rooms and cottages look good online and we chose the Poinciana Patio room - unfortunately this was a mistake. The room is positioned next to the service area and, when the staff are preparing breakfast, it can get very noisy. On the outside of the other side of the room is the breakfast area. The wall here must be very thin as we could clearly hear conversations of the guests having breakfast.
We also didn't like the small, flimsy shower / toilet area in one corner of the room nor that the sink was actually in the bedroom. If you value your privacy, this room is not for you! There is a patio area (one reason for us choosing the room) which the owners have attempted to make "private" with the use of plants. However, this doesn't really work and we woke to find other guests having breakfast on "our" table on a couple of occasions. Our friends had the Banyan Suite which was much better with a nice private patio.
On another negative point, the pool area is disappointing. It is small (which we expected) but the trees and shrubs have been left to overgrow so much that the area gets very little sun and the pool doesn't look too inviting. The weather was cool when we were there so it didn't affect us as we didn't use the area but had the weather been hotter, this definitely would have spoilt our enjoyment.
Having said all that, I would recommend the Tropical Inn because of it's plus points - mainly location - but I can' recommend the Poinciana Patio. Had the pool area been more attractive and less overgrown, I would have given 5 stars, not 4.

The hotel was a hidden gem on Duval. It was a great location and very nice rooms and facilities. The staff couldn't have been more helpful in terms of suggestions for dinner and organising day trips for us. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in the Poinciana Porch room, at the back of the main house with a sliding door to the pool and courtyard. There was a good variety of food for breakfast - the morning we walked over to Blue Heaven, we missed out on a carrot bundt cake. Jane and Allen were very friendly and helpful, ready and willing to help us with any arrangements we might need. The front porch is a great place to watch parades go by on Duval. I definitely recommend staying at the Tropical Inn and can't wait to go back.
