Our third stop on my good friend and my retirement celebration tour was here. Again, the Trip Advisor reviews were mixed so we really didn't know what to expect. Our overall impression was very good, with a small negative 'personal preference' reaction to not having access to our vehicle. It was valet parked in a garage and we had to request it when desired. Since we had packed for a two week adventure, the lack of instant access to our belongings that we left in the vehicle was a bit disconcerting, but also gave us security that no one could get to our vehicle, even us!!! Not really an issue, just not what we would prefer. We stayed here for two nights going down to Key West and one night on our return trip. This review covers both stays.
The location overlooking Biscayne Bay was beautiful. We reserved our rooms 4 months in advance and just before we left on the trip I contacted the hotel and requested that our two room suite be updated and facing the bay on a higher floor, which is exactly what we ended up staying in. In fact, the front desk put us in the same room coming and going per our request when we were leaving after the first stay. The room itself was clean, and the outside patio/balcony was nicely furnished, but there were cigarette butts everywhere on the balcony as it looked like the cleaning staff had overlooked this area for a while. Another room close by was being refurbished and the hammering and paint smell was obvious on our first stay, but they had finished up by the time that we returned. The kitchen was effiecient but small. The 3 TV's all had some sort of issues, but I am not sure if it was the Infinity internet connections or not. We worked around them but it was an issue that we did not report to management. The staff at the hotel was excellent and very efficient, and we could not have received better service. We ate at the hotel restaurant on our return trip and had another great experience with the staff there and other patrons that speific evening. While the menu is somewhat limited, I love Thai food and Singha beer!!! Had the fried rice, which was super. The pool was heated, the pool area nicely furnished, and I enjoyed it when the weather allowed.
Overall a very good experience. Not a great fan of the Miami Beach area in general, but would strongly consider staying here if I ever get down this way again as the Coconut Grove area was eclectic and good for short jaunts to taverns and eating establishments.
