We normally stay in another hotel when in Orlando but could not get enough rooms for our party this weekend with short notice. We booked this Confort Inn at international Dr based on the good overall rating here and prior good experiences with Comfort Inns. I am sitting in our room now as I write this to waste some time.
The Hotel looks very nice from the outside and the lobby is nice as well. That's about where it ended. The elevators are slow as can be and a little sketchy. The one on the left kinda does a verry od bounce motion when you first get in and creaks and groans when moving. Our room had a bit of a musty smell comming out of the air conditioner. Our friends' room didn't have that smell to be fair.
The beds are AWFULL. They have a plastic covered topper on them but you can still feel every individual spring. The bathroom is very dated but clean except for the grout. Interestingly, we found a german cockroach in the bathroom when we got back from City Walk. That pretty much means we have to unpack our suitcase outside when we get home now. German cockraoches are a bit worse than your usual Florida "palmeto bug" type.
The free breakfast this morning was pretty rough. I don't expect much from the hotel breakfasts usually but this one was exceptionaly stale. They did have a waffle station however and I can't imagine that they wouldn't have been good.
The Wireless internet is very quick here and easy to log on to.
The service: Well, we had an issue. We booked a room with 2 queen beds, non-smoking and a pull out bed soffa. My wife booked it on-line and called to confirm. When we got here, there were two of these upsidedown pogo stick like Double beds and no sofa. We called down to the front desk and the one poor lady they had working there during the busiest checkin hours was very nice and said she would see what they could do.
When we came back after a couple hours she told us she had called the general manager and he had told her that there was nothing they could do as they were completely booked. I could understand that and that sometimes things do happen although I'm not sure how they can get the room wrong with computerised reservation systems.
The kicker hoever was that she told us we could talk to the general manager but only Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4:30 pm. She gave us his card and even wrote the hours on the back of it. She was very nice and you could tell she wished she could do more and maybe had a different sort of GM. I felt bad for her.
So, we slept on the bed of nails and ate the bagel of nails in the morning. It wasn't the worst hotel experience I've ever had but it was pretty awfull for a comfort inn. I would never use this one again.
