I was required to be in the small town of Fitzgerald, Ga for business reasons, and there were others from various locations that were also gathering there for professional meetings. Some people had stayed at the Western before and recommended it, so I stayed there and I'm glad that I did. In a small town, it is often "slim pickings" for hotels and the quality is often lacking. Not so with the Western hotel and my recommendation to other hoteliers is that they travel to Fitzgerald to see how well it can be done. The hotel building itself was reportedly a Jameson Inn in a previous incarnation but is now independent.
Rooms at this hotel can only be booked by phone since it is independent. There is no way to book by internet. The manager is foreign and on the phone it was a bit hard to understand him but the reservation was readily made and when I arrived, the accommodations were exactly correct including a special request that was honored. The price was excellent for the quality of the hotel.
Once in the room, I found it to be immaculately clean. The carpets were used but clean from wall to wall, as was the floor and all the fixtures in the bathroom. There was a refrigerator and a microwave - however, the refrigerator was set to "freeze" so inadvertently, items I placed inside froze so you might check. The TV was easy to use and there were plenty of channels, though I didn't spend much time watching it. The internet access was fast and easy to acquire. Water pressure was very good and - lo, and behold - the shower curtain had magnets in the bottom that held it to the tub to prevent water from getting around it. The only caveat was the slow drainage from the tub. There were plenty of counters and desk space and the fixtures were wood so there was no rust. The bed was quite comfortable and the pillows adequately fluffy. There was no extrusion of external noise (this is actually a "motel" with doors opening to the parking lot). The hotel was located only a handful of minutes from downtown and the location seemed quite secure and I felt that I and my vehicle were secure during the stay.
The continental breakfast is simple and plain, but there is a Shoney's just across the parking lot - and easy and safe walk. The exterior of the hotel was very clean and very well maintained.
Several of our company stayed at the hotel and all were surprised and pleased with the quality of the accommodations and the exceptionally good price. I expect to be returning to this area periodically and this is the place that I will be staying.
