This hotel was so disappointing. From the "Lakeside view" that also overlooked the graveyard to the "motel like" architecture. The hairdresser was fantastic. A very sweet lady called Sheila did an admirable job and all for 25 euros!! The manicurist on the other hand did an average re varnish which was outrageously priced at 30 euros! The room was ok but soulless. However the shining star in this very average place is the outstanding food in the restaurant. We had the black sole which was probably the best sole we have ever tasted, Scott's in Mount Street London, included! The manager did try to help us but he could only offer our friends one upgrade to an unrefurbished suite that did not overlook the graveyard but there were no other refurbished rooms available so we had to stay put. Luckily it was just one night and day with the curtains drawn to block the graveyard but it was still a waste of what should have been a lovely view. The other thing that really annoyed us was that with our agent we get an upgrade where available and a $100 spa credit. We did not get offered an upgrade until we complained and then they only offered us a 60 Euro spa credit! To add insult to injury they then refused to allow the credit to be applied to the hairdressers charge They insisted that the hairdresser was a separate entity even though the appointment was made through the spa and the service was listed in the spa brochure of services. We stood our ground and finally had the charge removed from our bill.

Room tip: Unless, like the manager, you like graveyards, make sure you ask for a room with just a lake view

Aghadoe Heights is an elegant, crisp hotel. Not snooty or overly decorated, but clean lines and high quality comfort. Our room was spacious with a stunning lake view. Air conditioning was quiet, efficient. Bed very comfortable with soft down pillows. Extensive spa area with several different rooms (laconium, hammam, serail) with lovely relaxation area and massage offerings. Restaurant had some hiccups with service (forgot to bring coffee one night after placing cups down, and did not bring a glass of wine that was ordered a second night). Food quality four star with some excellent choices.

The view from my lake-facing room was amazing. I could have sat on the balcony and watched it all day. The room was very spacious, nicely decorated and clean but close enough to the bar that I could hear the piano quite clearly through the wall. The bathroom was large, with both a freestanding tub and a separate shower unit. I was a little disappointed that there was not a tea/coffee making station in the room, but that was a minor concern. The restaurant was so-so for breakfast (I had three breakfasts there). There was a buffet continental breakfast which was fine. One morning I tried an omelet, which was simply the worst omelet I've ever tasted (I stopped after one bite and went back to the buffet for some cold cereal). The common spaces in the hotel are nicely decorated and comfortable. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel was convenient to Killarney and the various sites of interest in the area, including glorious hiking trails. I would stay here again but eat out at restaurants in town.

Room tip: Get a lakefront room: the view will knock your socks off!

Absolutely excellent service. We were there with a tour group, and the hotel staff could not have been more attentive and accommodating. The food was excellent, and the facilities are wonderful. Modern building with very clean, spacious and comfortable quiet rooms. A special thanks to Dave the manager, and Darron the "aspiring manager". They went out of their way to help us adjust the climate control in our room.

Room tip: Get a room facing the lake if you can...the views are awesome!!
