My wife and I wanted to celebrate our 23rd anniversary by checking a trip to Maine off our bucket list. We discovered that finding the right accommodations 4 weeks before our departure was a real challenge. I Trip Advised my way to the Boothbay Resort and - as has generally been the case - it served us well. We flew into Portland and explored Freeport on our way up to our first lobster at Round Pond. Our clean, quiet and very comfortable cottage (Balsams 8) was a welcome place to come home to - and continued to be as we explored midcoast Maine. Our destinations varied from minutes away (Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay Harbor) to 2.5 hours for Acadia - but most everything else was well less than an hour's drive (including the ferry to Monhegan Island from New Harbor). Having the Boothbay Craft Brewery on site - along with its Watershed Tavern (offering up their fine ales with tavern fare) - was a definite plus. One morning we bought a growler (64 oz jug) - which along with delights from the Daramiscotta Farmer's market made for a fine picnic at the Tenants Harbor Lighthouse. We were out enjoying ourselves too much to get to know our hosts Win and Lori - Win offered a friendly greeting on our arrival and we exchanged notes with Lori during our stay as she attended to our housekeeping requests.
