Last weekend we stayed for two nights at this resort. Although the hotel check-in staff were helpful, we when entered our floor all the doors to the rooms had some kind of rough repair work done with hunks of wood sticking out near the door locks. The room was clean but very outdated, heating/air unit did not function properly and it took some work to adjust the temperature to a reasonable level. First morning the maid knocked at 9:00 a.m. to clean the room, we told her that we would be leaving within an hour and she asked if we wanted her to return and clean the room??? Of course we said that we did and asked if there was coffee in the lobby, she replied that she didn't know!
I believe there were two weddings and some outdoor activities booked during the weekend and, although it was only 9:30 a.m. and half the dining room had empty tables there was a line of twenty plus people waiting to be seated. The staff recommended a local restaurant, (the Stone Age Cafe) and we left, eventually after many unsuccessful attempts to get breakfast in the area ending up having a breakfast sandwich at a gas station in the next town. The next morning was even worse with a longer line of people waiting for a table in the only dining room and all of the coffee urns empty. I expressed my disappointment at the desk but the gentleman there was disinterested in my complaint. Weddings are not spur of the moment bookings and I fail to see why there weren't adequate staff and resources on hand to accommodate the number of paying guests. Breakfast was not included in the price of the room and, from a purely commercial standpoint, I would have thought they would make every effort to provide service. This is a very rural area with no real choices nearby. the fact that we could not even get a cup of coffee was unbelievable to me. Even though the area is beautiful we were really unhappy with the level of service in this "resort".

Room tip: "Find a different hotel altogether" would be my honest recommendation.

Really good breakfasts, inc. Buffet. Staff friendly and helpful. Near the end of the C & O Canal and the Scenic Train Ride from Cumberland to Frostburg. Train leaves at 11:30. Time in Frostburg for lunch. 1916 Baldwin Steam Locomotive. We were there for the Autumn Glory Festival in Oakland, MD. Huge crowds for parade. Crafts, art. Good dinner at Warner's German Restaurant and Fratellis.

This place falls way short of resort. Me management has made changes that have made I worse. Employees are not happy and it show in service with the exception of a few stats. Don't waste your time. Food is poor. Service is horrible. Value does not exist.

I made reservations at this resort for my boyfriend's birthday and everything just worked out perfectly. It's in a serene setting with breathtaking views of the lake or golf course. For those who love golf, the course is a good challenge. Everyone was friendly, the room was spotless and the Lakeside Restaurant gave us a complimentary chocolate cake for my boyfriend's birthday which was a pleasant surprise:) This was a perfect getaway for us, would recommend it to anyone who just wants to relax and enjoy a long weekend.

This is our 3rd vist over several years. We were surprised at how far they had fallen. The service was good but the room was not the price quoted over the phone. We ended up paying $50 more then told for one night. The grounds are still beautiful but the hotel it self is not being cared for as in the past. There is mold in the shower and on the shower ceiling, we stood in several inches of water while showering, mold on the window and the sink had a huge crack in it. The room smelled like dirty socks. The food was just ok, nothing like in the past. Not worth $200 a night. Such a shame as this place was really a lovely place to go at one time.
