My partner and I wound up for two nights at the Waterford due to an issue we had at another B&B. And Boy was this place a treat. The staff, Walt and Al was wonderful and welcomed us with open arms. We saw them numerous times each day and always with a very warm greeting and spent time just chatting with us. I always feel that the number one goal of any B&B or hotel is to make their guest very welcome, comfortable and like they are at their home away from home. Al and his staff excelled at this.
When you enter the Waterford, a small snack store is on the left, café on the right and restaurant bar in the courtyard ahead and above on a second story deck. We dined at the restaurant one night and the service was good and food excellent. I had the Filet recommend by the owner and he was right – it was probably the best filet I have had in town. They usually have live music/entertainment on the deck each evening. Past the courtyard lies the actual inn. There is an outside seating area for the guest.
The Inn has a wonderful living room on the main floor – a perfect place for mingling. The breakfast room is also charming and what is served is even more wonderful. Homemade blueberry pancakes and freshly made egg casseroles (or keesh) were a better offering than any other B&B I have stayed at. Since the Inn has been fully renovated and newly opened (July 4th), everything was sparklingly. We stayed in room 8 which had a large very comfy king size bed. The AC units are those fancy new slim units that cool the room beautifully. We had tons of windows with light white sheer curtains that filled the room with sunlight. Each room had a nice flat screen and I-pod docking station as well as Wi-Fi throughout the whole Inn. Towels were brand new and plush. The bedding was elegant and modern. We toured many of the rooms as they were open and unoccupied. Each room has a fresh appearance – light cream and white. Nice rugs and linens. It’s a mix of an older colonial feels with clean modern lines (such as the mod black lamps and linens). It’s a simple theme but a wonderful blend of two styles. The floors have the old pine planks (painted white in the rooms and natural in the halls). They really did a great job here. Our friend stayed in room ten and we saw room 9 – both are large and I’d consider them suites with sitting areas and a wonder balcony with a full view of the harbor. The only thing was it could be a bit noisy at night the live music in the bar out on the balcony. The room rates were very reasonable and ranged from about 159 to 250 a night. There is no parking.
I never stayed at this end of town and it was different then being down on the center of the town to the west side. There were more families and a more mixed crowd (gay and straight). I prefer more towards the center and west end but to each his own. During carnival or bear week, this may be ideal because the center of town gets so hectic. It is definitely more quiet down here but not far from the action. But overall, they did a wonderful job with the place and it really is a step up from other B&B’s in the area. And the staff is wonderful – This is a high recommendation for anyone looking for the eastern end of town and maybe a quieter, mixed type of crowd/town. Each time I stay at another part of the town, I get a different experience.
