I just returned from a three-night stay in one of the Golden Gate's newly remodeled suites and it was great!
The GG's website describes the suites accurately. The suite includes a firm, comfortable king-size bed, a large sectional sofa (with queen-size pull out bed), and a large flat-screen TV with plenty of counter and storage space. I shared the room with two other pals and we never felt crowded.
The suite features a very open floor plan, which means the living/sleeping area flows into the bathroom area. I was a bit worried about this before arrival, and it certainly isn't ideal all of the time, but the suite has a ceiling-to-floor curtain that can be drawn around the entire bathroom area to effectively close off the bathroom for some privacy. Privacy didn't end up being a big issue.
The tiled shower is nice, if not a bit on the small side. It features a large rainfall shower head in addition to a removable, handheld shower head. We experienced some minor issues with fluctuating water pressure, but we always had warm water. Very clean.
Another minor issue I had with the room is that the thermostat, while programmable, is motion censored. I believe the room is naturally regulated at 72 degrees F (or somewhere around there), and only clicks on (to cooler temps) when someone is active in the room. I understand why the resort does this, but coming into a...I just returned from a three-night stay in one of the Golden Gate's newly remodeled suites and it was great!

I believe the room is naturally regulated at 72 degrees F (or somewhere around there), and only clicks on (to cooler temps) when someone is active in the room. I understand why the resort does this, but coming into a 72 degree room after walking around in 110 degrees isn't always the most welcoming thing. This also led to some warmer nights than I would prefer, but this was certainly not a big issue.
Some other notes:
The hotel offers free valet parking. I had a rental and don't like to valet anyways. I'm not sure if the hotel offers free parking, but the valet attendant told us to park across the street at the Plaza's parking garage (which is pretty large). The cost for non-Plaza parkers is $5 per day. Fortunately, the parking garage attendees don't seem to be to worried about honesty. Just tell them you're staying at the Plaza :)
I should also note that noise was not an issue in the suite. I have stayed in a GG standard room before (right on Fremont) and the noise was intolerable. I could not hear Fremont street at all from my suite. I slept very soundly!
Conclusion:
Ultimately, the GG suites may be lacking some of the amenities offered by more high-end resorts on the strip, or perhaps even at the Golden Nugget. For the price, however, you cannot beat this room. They're clean and modern. I think we booked three nights (Thurs-Sun) for under $400 (including tax and resort fees)! If staying in a nice, quiet, and comfortable room is important to you, definitely consider getting a suite at the Golden Gate.More
