My husband and I chose to spend our 15th anniversary at the Wentworth Inn in Jackson. We still had a lovely stay at the Wentworth, which included two fantastic 4 course meals, breakfast, and our lovely room, Fairlawn 707.
When we arrived in Jackson, I was taken by the picturesque location of the Wentworth, which is situated across from the river. When we entered the Inn, I was nearly transported back in time. The Inn has been lovingly taken care of, but still has that old charm. Once we got our keys, we cross the street to the Fairlawn Cottage, which is adjacent to the Jackson Ski Touring Center.
The cottage was built in 1920, but once you've crossed the threshold into your room, it all feels brand new. Room 707 is on the second floor, and there is no elevator, so be prepared to carry your bag. When we entered the suite, the tall king-sized bed with facing gas fireplace called to me. Beyond was a sitting room, where I enjoyed knitting in the window seat. Further in was a five-star bathroom with a steam shower, and door to the outdoor hottub. Technology abounds, including WiFi access, DVD player, and three HDTVs (bedroom, sitting room, hottub). It took a few days to figure out what the small white knobs were in each room of our suite -- the sound system, which plays throughout the suite. The only thing that I could even consider lacking in the room was closet space, just one tiny (but typical of the era) closet -- but that was more than made up for with several chests where we could store folded clothing.
The charm of this hotel is unique -- and if you want a sneak peak, there is a movie called "Skeletons in the Closet" starring Treat Williams and Linda Hamilton that was filmed in Jackson. The Wentworth lobby (prom scene) and library (hospital scene) were featured in the movie, along with other familiar sites in Jackson.
Overall, we had a wonderful trip -- I could see visiting Jackson any time of the year, and will definitely be booking at room at Fairlawn Cottage again!
Fairlawn Cottage only has eight rooms, so it's a quiet alternative to the Inn.
