My best friends and I wanted to pry ourselves from our significant others and focus on one another for once, and decided a weekend away in upstate New York would be really different and fun. I am so glad I found this inn because by the end of the weekend we were so happy and relaxed - it really was such a wonderful time for all of us.
We stayed in the Tudor Room which is good for up to 4 or 5 people (the couch inside is also a futon). There's a fireplace in the room which we used both nights (beautiful...and Benno was kind to help us one night to make it work!), a very very large bathroom with lots of mirrors, and a back door entrance which leads out to a balcony with a gorgeous view of the mountains, and lake. You can also access the stairs to go down for a walk. The entire backyard (which is more like a mini forest) is good for a walk, and many of Benno and Josepha's sculptures dot the trail.
The property feels like something out of a film. You drive down a long drive-way to a building that looks like something from a story book. With the fall foliage its just very overwhelming with its beauty. My personal favorite memory of the property was a dog named Rose - she was playful and sweet and loved to be hugged and pet. We sat on the hill together with Rose to watch the sunset.
Josepha was an adorable, giving, kind host. She loved to talk and find out about us, and we were glad to know about her. Her breakfast was so decadent - she made us so many things! Scones, some kind of tea-cake, apple streudel, eggs with peppers and rosemary bread toast, hash browns ,coffee and OJ. She was very accommodating to the fact that we are vegetarians. It's rough that it costs extra ($12) but its a LOT of food!
Anyway this inn is very close to the center of town, and we just loved Saugerties a lot. This inn, the town, and being together in the fall time, made for a beautiful little weekend. It's also a romantic place but, for friends, it will always be a happy, fun and gorgeous memory.
