Stayed in this Hampton Inn on our first trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway for fall foliage. Great location, just outside Mt. Airy (Mayberry) and easy access to I-77. Warm welcome by the front desk, acknowledging my being a HHonors member. Asked for dinner suggestions and were given a few that matched what I had considered from TripAdvisor. Very helpful with suggestions for the area, best roads to take to the BRP, and personal local expertise.
Room, a “king with other features” was larger than expected, included a microwave and mini-fridge, quiet a/c, and very clean. Due to the shape of the room, the layout was different with the TV as far from the bed as it could be. A lot of space, but not used to its greatest benefit. Bed had a white comforter and white pillows (four small ones for a King bed). We called down for more pillows and they were delivered in minutes. The bed did not look inviting but turned out to be very comfortable. Bathroom spotless and very functional.
Breakfast was better than average, with a good variety of hot and cold options, Area was kept clean and food was continually restocked as used. Friendly and accommodating staff. Stayed two nights and enjoyed the hotel and of course, the surrounding area. Great value for the price, especially considering the time of year and we would definitely stay again.

Room tip: Rooms on the top floor, away form elevator are very quiet. "King with other features" rooms are very large.

This hotel is convenient to exploring downtown Mt. Airy, NC, America's Mayberry and home of Andy Griffith. It is also not too far from an exit off of the Blue Ridge Parkway and a good stopping point if you are taking that trip, either direction. There are plenty of shopping and food options in town and around/near the hotel. The only thing that I would not recommend is the Chili's two doors down from the hotel. I got food poisoning there. There are plenty of other options within driving and walking distance (pizza shop right next door).

With respect to the hotel, it is a standard Hampton Inn - nothing special not horrendous. The front desk staff were polite and helpful. The King N/S room I had was appointed as expected. Clearly not a new renovation but nothing too tattered. However, the bathroom, specifically the shower/tub left much to be desired. For some reason there was a sort of a weird channel running down the center of the tub. You had to stand on the outer edge of the tub basin to not be in the middle trough where water would pool and not drain too quickly. There was also some sort of nasty anti-slip mat that was partly glued down and partly not. Under that mat was crud which clearly had been there a while. The aircon/heater unit in the window was one of the older models that I prefer to keep off because they never seem to regulate properly. The breakfast in the morning was typical and convenient. The laundry room was also convenient and away from guest rooms. They cost a dollar per load, each machine. The front desk has no-name detergent you can pay for or you can walk next door to the Walgreen's and get a travel pack of Tide from the travel aisle.

Downtown Mt. Airy is a must. As others have said elsewhere in this forum, you should go to the visitors center first. They will help you map out your day planning where to go when. For example, they told me to rush right over to Floyd's Barber shop since it was almost 4pm and he leaves at that time and wouldn't be in the next day. I quickly walked down two blocks and found a very hospitable distinguished gentlemen (88) who used to cut Andy Griffith's hair and who the character of Floyd was based on. Snappy's lunch is right next door and you can spend a couple of hours hitting all the shops and sights in the small downtown. A short drive away is the museum and the statues. There is plenty of free parking all around town, on the main streets and in special lots. For more information, use the TA search feature for Mt. Airy and there are plenty of good recommendations. Enjoy!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding your stay at the Hampton Inn Mount Airy NC. I am sorry to hear that you suffered from food poision from a local restaurant but I hope that you have made a full recovery.
It is the feedback from our guest that helps us better accomodate you and others that stay with us. I am pleased to know that the staff were polite and helpful but I am disappointed with the description of the tub. No we are not a new renovation but we do take pride in our hotel and keeping it clean, comfortable and well maintained. Unfortunately, we fell short during your stay and I would like to apologize for that. I will look into your concerns and see what we can do to better the appearance of the tubs.
Thank you for staying with us and I hope that you enjoyed your trip through the Blue Ridge Parkway. We hope to see you again the next time your travels bring you to "Mayberry."

We stayed at the Hampton Inn last week, October 5th. The desk clerk was wonderful, full of information, and so courteous! The room was very clean, the breakfast was awesome, and the place was just a great place to be! It was close to downtown where we toured all of Andy Griffith's places, took the squad car tour, and enjoyed the welcoming people of Mt. Airy.
