We stayed at the historic Baird House B&B last weekend and it was a fine choice. The setting is great, alongside the Wautauga River, and the house itself is in wonderful shape considering all it's been through in the last 222 years. Tom showed us around and gave us a history lesson on the building and the surrounding area. Very interesting..... the house has been lovingly restored to its current condition from the very rough state it had been in long ago.
We stayed in the Highlander room(s), which is the large double room at the top of the steps on the 2nd floor. The room was fine (2 queen size beds with a foldout bed available in the closet) and could easily sleep 5 or 6. We had just a couple issues.... the hottest water we could get out of the shower was tepid at best. We told Tom about it the next day and he would look into it. Also, the room is directly above the kitchen and dining area and any conversation taking place below carries upstairs very well. If we stay here again we'll try another room.
The furnishings of the house are really neat, with a lot of historic pictures of the property on the walls, Tom and DeeDee were great hosts- Tom provided suggestions for a couple nearby hikes that we loved. Our breakfast was wonderful and was one of the high points of our stay.
