I don't quite feel this establishment deserves four stars, 3.5 would be my true rating if I could give it. We received an email the day before our arrival stating that we could find the keys to the house and room under a flower pot when we arrived and we should just let ourselves into the house. I found this a bit odd as at the other B&Bs we have stayed at we were always personally welcomed by the inn keepers and given extensive tours of the home, room, etc. When we arrived it was pouring and we spent several minutes in the rain looking for the hidden keys. Eventually we called the inn keeper and she met us a few minutes later with the keys. Okay, I guess maybe she forgot to the leave the keys out for us... I don't know. Anyway, she gave us a brief tour of the home and was on her way. She was perfectly kind, but I have come to expect a more extensive welcome from other inns. We stayed in the Palen room which was clean and comfortable. The house seems to have quite thin walls and you can easily hear quiet conversation from the other guests. The breakfast was good, but the portions were small and there were only two courses, not the three that the website promises. The other B&Bs we have stayed at served much more extensive breakfasts that left us full for most of the day and seemed a bit more formal. Here, guests were served as they came and the conversation between guests was minimal. The location of this place is superb. It is within walking distance to many restaurants, shops and attractions. Overall, I would recommend this place and I would visit again. But, it is not the top B&B I have stayed at so I cannot rate it as such.

Stayed a week in the beautiful 'Roost' and what a wonderful stay. Furnished and decorated with love and care. Everything you would need in the mini kitchen even down to the daily plate of cookies or cake. The bed is so comfortable, the bathroom has an amazing shower and the alcove with a desk just completes the apartment. Diane is a lovely friendly host to her guests.

Wonderful B&B. The only reason I give 4/5 rather than 5/5 is the noise when trying to sleep...which has nothing to do with the guests. We stayed in the landis room which happens to be on the side of the home at W 28th and Bridge intersection. Every conversation on the street feels like it's taking place in your room.

Other than that one negative...the experience was great. The owner is very nice, helpful and responds quickly to any question you may have. Breakfast was delicious, rooms very clean, and comfortable beds.

The location makes this a must. Great Lakes Brewery, Nano and Market Garden Breweries, Westside Market and much more are all within a 3 to 4 minute walk from the front door.

Once again...the only negative was the street noise, but other rooms may not have this issue. I would stay again and recommend J. Palen to anyone looking to explore the area.

Room tip: landis suite is on the w 28th and bridge intersection...choose a different room for a quieter nights sleep.

Spent a few nights at " The Roost," a property of the J Palen House. It was fantastic! We had a special request for a gluten free breakfast, and they accommodated that with delicious options. Within walking distance of West Side Market. The Roost is a meticulous 2 story apartment with a gas wood stove, brick walls, kitchen with snacks/coffee/tea, king bed, large shower, and private patio. The decor is lovely. It is so cozy that we decided to spend an afternoon in, just to enjoy it! I highly recommend not only The Roost, but any property of the J Palen House - there are several options available.

Thanks to the Innkeepers for such a wonderful experience.

We stayed in the annex building around the corner from the main house. Loved our room, Palen's Room, Big bed, comfortable chairs, and many amenities. The bathroom was very big with a shower and whirlpool tub! Close walk to many restaurants and easy access to the interstate and downtown. This building has a kitchen and living room shared by another room with many amenities for the guests. We will definitely go back when we're in Cleveland. Walking distance to the West End Market and not too far from the Rock & Roll Hall.
Delicious breakfast served in the main house at 9!
