We had a very enjoyable two-night stay at the Umbleby House, which is one of three properties that make up The Wedgwood Inns in New Hope. I found their website confusing, as the differentiation of the three inns was unclear (at least to me). As it turns out, the Wedgwood is the main house, with the Umbleby right next door, with adjoining walkways and garden space. The Aaron Burr was located a short block away & across the street.
We stayed in U9 in the Umbleby, in a large corner room with a sleigh bed, gas fireplace, sitting area and private bath. Furnished in charming shabby-chic style, our room was cozy and comfortable, with wide-planked floors, and thoughtful touches. A plush armchair, table and chairs in a corner, ceiling fan, window AC, and small flatscreen with basic cable. No premium channels, but fast and free wifi was included. The bathroom, though, was small, with minimal storage space, and a very small stall-shower. The house was very clean and very OLD; a few touch-ups were needed, but not terribly problematic for us.
Breakfast was available in the adorable dining room which is located in the Wedgwood, or delivered to your room. Coffee, tea, juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, and granola was offered both days. Bagels and whitefish spread was included on the first morning; croissants, pastry and quiche the second. A kitchen area in the Umbleby House included the use of a refrig and microwave, and had coffee, tea and fresh fruit available. Hairdryers, iron, corkscrews; all there for the borrowing.
Service was friendly but unobtrusive. By Monday morning, we were one of the few guests remaining, and the doors to vacant rooms were left open, and you were welcomed to browse the accommodations. Each room was unique; a number of them had jacuzzis; most had fireplaces or wood-burning stoves. Bathroom sizes varied from closet-sized to large. The furnishings and decor of the Wedgwood rooms were more carefully done, and very pretty, although the Umbleby rooms seemed a bit larger.
Location was excellent, as it was a short few blocks' walk to the shops and restaurants, and removed enough from the cars and crowds that are in the center of the town. We liked it very much, and won' hesitate to return here.
