Booked at last minute for a week preceding July 4 week. Actually we check out tomorrow - thank goodness. Here's why I would not recommend this so called resort. Check in was uneventful. Clerk was very nice and made sure our condo was clean and ready.
Resort - This is not a "resort". Very large stretch to call this a resort. It is a large complex of condos which are pointed towards parking unless you are in the tower bldg. Don't be fooled by any ocean view. If you are not on the front units or in the tower, you may be able to see ocean horizon over the parking lot. If you want to be packed in with the rest of the north east travelers, 2/3 of Ohio and Kentucy folks all their kids and rowdy teenagers and their friends, then this place is for you. The pools were too crowded due to all of the people here this week. The lazy river is a 1000 yards from the beach. So imagine the whole gang walking back and forth from/to beach. Recession? What recession? No real restaurant on site - whomever Ned is he seems to have all of your food needs. If you like pizza, fries and chicken fingers it's a great selection for a resort... Beach bar is ok. Drink prices are steep. 16 oz beer will cost you $5 and their frozen drinks cost 7-9 bucks. The convenience store is ok to buy what you are missing. Bag of ice at the time of this review was $2.50 plus tax.
Location on Strand - MB resort on Hwy 17 (Kings Hwy) between two of the largest Campgrounds on the beach. Traffic is terrible getting in and out of this "resort". This is due to the traffic area where Hwy 544 deads ends onto Hwy 17. My advice if you come to this "resort" in the summer months. Bring your patience. You will need it.
Restaurants - There are chain restaurants within 10 miles north or south of the "resort". However, you will need to eat dinner at 4pm or 10pm. Otherwise, if you travel down the beach to Murrell's Inlet to eat seafood. Better make a night of it. If you travel north to places like Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot landing - well - you better make a night of it there too. Make sure you have your GPS with you. It will help you get off the beaten path to get around traffic areas.
Beach at the MB "resort" - worst part of the beach I've been to on the strand. One reason is that the lifeguards impose a line of umbrellas which they rent. The line where they put their umbrellas and chairs makes it a very, very small beach during high tide. With the amount of people that are staying here, the beach is as packed as Martha's vineyard in JAWS. It was so crowded, you could not walk down the beach.
Security - they actually do a good job here with security. If you have friends or want someone to visit your condo, you will have to jump through a few hoops to get a parking pass for them. Just wish they could do something about the noise people make in Bldg A and B. We stayed in Bldg B and kids were constantly running up and down the hallway. Lots of families with teenagers here and most were very respectful. However, others decided they were on spring break. Yelling from balconies, etc... This is not the place to come if you want rest and relaxation. Again, this is not a "resort". Bring ear plugs with you. You can hear sliding glass doors slam, doors slam, toilets flushing, people walking and running upstairs, etc... Reminds me of my first apartment experience. Much better condos on the strand to stay here.
So why didn't we leave? Prepaid for the week. So we made the best of it. However, I would highly recommend staying somewhere else.
If you like this "resort" good for you. But my review of this "resort" will stand. There are much better places to stay on the Grand Strand. How do I know? I've stayed in them. Reason I booked this place because it was a last minute reservation during the week preceeding July 4. So the normal places were already booked. Next time I'll stay at home!
