Note to travelers: If you are a member of a hotels rewards program (ours being ChoicePrivileges) you are more likely to have special requests honored, as well as receive upgraded rooms, better views, late checkouts and other perks. Most hotels reception staff is trained to assign rooms on busy days starting with elite reward members first and working their way down.
