My boyfriend and I stayed here at the end of may. I got a great deal for the hotel off of groupon. Everyone was very friendly. I loved the rooms. Very spacious, and loved having our own little kitchen equipped with plates, cups, and silverware. Great location on the seawall. Would definetly stay here again.

Good bang for the buck. We upgraded to the ocean front view for a reasonible cost at the front desk. At first I was overcharged until I brought it to their attention. They were very friendly with the exception of the first woman I encountered who rung me up at a higher rate than my reservation stated. All was made well by a different person after I pointed it out. Great size, has everything you need and very close to the walmart and 2 grocery stores.

So glad you enjoyed the hotel...we'll be working with the staff member who made the mistake on your rate to ensure that doesn't happen again. We are very committed to making sure that "If we mess up, we fess up and then we dress up"! So rest assured your comments will be taken seriously and we will work to improve. Hope to have you stay with us again soon!

My visit (before this stay) was unpleasant. The whole complex was badly in need of updating, but this time, EVERYTHING is new, refurbished, clean, very nice. The bunk beds are a bit cramped, but I still recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to the coast.

Thank you for giving us another try! We are glad you got to experience our recently completed remodeling project which included all new kitchens and baths in the rental suites. And those bunk beds - we actually call them Junior Bunks - are definitely designed for small children. We try very hard to convey their small size in all of our print and on-line descriptions, but we'll keep trying to make sure we convey the product accurately for our guests. We strive to continually improve our property and provide all of our guests with exceptional value and friendly service. Thanks again for giving us another chance to serve your accommodation needs - looking forward to having you return soon!

We recently stayed here for a family reunion. This was one of our go-to spots when our three boys were really young and I'm happy to say that their recent renovation has kept Casa del Mar on top of their game. I challenge anyone to find a better value in the Galveston area. The suites are like 1-bedroom apartments and it's so convenient to have a kitchen for lazy breakfasts. We hosted Happy Hour every evening for our extended family so that everyone could come together and catch up at least once during the day. The property's layout is perfect for groups. Rooms are all across a covered hallway from each other and our rooms were all reserved side-by-side. The arrangement allowed us to leave our doors open and encourage family members to room-hop and visit with each other. Management is helpful and when an a/c unit went out in one room, the maintenance men were right on top of it. If I had to comment on anything that could be improved it's the beach (which they can do nothing about) and the light in the hallway which was so bright and left on all night... some family members had trouble sleeping because of the light that seeped through the curtains. Also be advised that the bunk beds are for SMALL children, which it says on the website, but some people don't read. Was great when our boys were small but too short for Jr High and above so plan to use the sleeper sofa in the living room, if you are bringing others.

We love hosting family reunions and have so many groups like yours who have made Casa del Mar a family tradition year after year! We have some great meeting space that can also be used for group gatherings as well. We are working on a new window covering prototype to address the light coming in as you mentioned, so look for improvements coming soon. Boy do we wish we could enlarge those Junior Bunks too - but we do have a lot of positive comments about how the small kids love them - just like yours used to before they got older:) Thanks for having your family reunion with us again!

I'm here now. My family and I are not pleased. View is horrible, beds are terrible. The bunk beds reminded me of being on a cruise ship. My kids could not stretch out their legs. The beach across the street sucks! The smell in the air is horrible. Will not be visiting this hotel or Galveston again.

We are sorry if you were not pleased and hope you asked to speak to a Manager during your stay. We are here 24/7 and always want to address any guest concerns. As has been noted on numerous reviews, our bunk beds are small - Junior Bunks as we describe them - and we continue to look for ways to better convey this to our customers in our literature on line and in our room descriptions. If you book directly with the hotel, our standard description is "Small set of Junior Bunks designed for children under the age of 12". The last thing we want is for a customer to expect something we can't deliver so we'll continue to look for ways to get the information across to guests before they book with us. As far as the seaweed goes - the Gulf Coast was inundated with it this year and unfortunately, it does smell sometimes. But the smell goes away and the beaches will be bigger and stronger than ever eventually - Mother Nature at work I suppose. The City is actually planning some beach nourishment projects to help the process soon too! But we are very sorry you were disappointed and encourage all hotel guests - at Casa or any hotel you stay in, to bring your concerns to a manager during your stay so we can do our best to address them.
