Arrived in Galveston, but received a call while having lunch. Went to the hotel to personally cancel the reservations, but also to look at the room. It was a nice room for such an old property. We thought the room rate was a bit high, but the location and view are very nice. Except for some strange odors we did not notice any major items worth complaint.

It was a very hot day. The elevators are like those on similar properties, that is, they're not air conditioned, being apart from the main building, and thus, the same ambient temperature as outside. Parking is free and many restaurants and other eateries are within walking distance.

The staff were very helpful even though we told them on arrival that we were going back to Houston and would not be staying. They most graciously took us on an accompanied tour to view the room. We did not have the time to see the whole property.

The Commodore is not a high end property because of its age and the need for renovation, but for an oldie, it is fine for a brief stay. The room did have some strange smells for those of you, like my dear wife, who've a keen sense that suggest a thorough cleaning or carpet, etc. replacement is needed.

Room tip: If you're coming for an ocean view, balcony room try to get on the fourth floor in the center or near the east end for the best view and least amount of direct sun. It can be very hot in the summer months.

My experience with the commodore started with the check in. The staff was very rushed, not paying attention to anyone and trying to process everything without paying attention. Next the parking is very crappy. The parking spaces are VERY narrow and close. When we arrived to our room the TV was not working at all. We asked for someone to fix it and a complete knucklehead was sent. He didn't know how to fix anything. So we were moved to another room that is very small and horrible. I am 6'0 and to take a shower I had to crotch constantly. And to get towels was next to impossible. The cleaning lady didn't even clean or replace anything. We had to throw away our own trash and clean the whole room each day. My sons got stuck in the elevator for 15 minutes before hitting the door so someone would release them. The staff was very rude and the breakfast was very cheap. Would not recommend this hotel unless it is your last possible option. Worst hotel I've stayed in, in my 10 years of traveling. Has a nice view, but horrible stay.

We recently returned from vacation in Galveston. We stayed at the Commodore on the Beach hotel. One word to describe the facility, yuck! Upon arrival, we noticed dead flies in our beds and a large ball of hair in the shower. We never had enough towels and had to call every night to get more. Our trash wasn't emptied one day so we had to do it and take it out and then call for more trash bags. The must have plumping issues because our toilet kept clogging up. Had to call for a plunger and had to do the " dirty work" of unclogging the toilet ourselves. Parking lot is small and spaces are narrow. Complimentary breakfast consists of either a box of cereal or a cellophane wrapped muffin. For $199/night I expected better. I advise to seek another place to stay.

After a disappointing overnight stay at Gaido's I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel just next door. the room is very tiny, but the bed was comfortable. At least there was a blanket on the bed, unlike Gaidos which has a threadbare sheet and old pilled quilt. There is no coffee maker. I wish these older hotels would accommodate this easy amenity; a small table or shelf tucked in a corner. Although this room is small, there is room for this addition. Anywho....the pool area is very nice, no loud music or party goers. the staff is very polite. The breakfast is more than disappointing. No fruit. I'm giving it 3 stars as I did with Gaidos but if I could re-write that review, I would have given them 2 stars only.

My family of 11 just left here and we all loved our rooms. 8 of us stayed in the family room and it was perfect for our needs. It was spacious, clean, and had a fridge in the room. The kids had a blast being able to stay in the same room. Meanwhile, the other 3 adults were able to stay in a room overlooking the pool and seawall. The staff was friendly and the price was good. Great experience.
