My dad and I drove up to Dallas for a quick trip to see the implosion of Texas Stadium. We could not have chosen a better hotel. The pictures do not do this place justice. It is very nice. I have been to Omni Parker House, Omni Houston Westside, Omni Bayfront, Omni La Mansion, The Watermark, and Omni Austin Downtown and this was the nicest (besides the Watermark, but thats Omni's best property and doesn't much count.) The doors were always opened for us with a smile - that says a lot for Omni, they usually have trouble with this simply task. You walk into the beautiful lobby and are greeted by a table of about 20 vases with exotic orchids. There is a large sitting area with a pianoist and oriental foutain - very classy. The lobby features their M Bar, and downstairs a restaurant, or two. Meeting space is just off the lobby to the right. Out back is the pool, surrounded by lush grass and great landscaping. The pool is right along the man-made lake of Las Colinas. Very nice!
The tower of rooms is 28 stories. We had a room on level 20, facing Dallas. Was great! We had wanted to get a suite to have more space (1700 square feet) but ended up just getting a double bedded room. It was huge anyway! The bed were tucked into one part, and what was left was still bigger than an average room. Bathroom was nice, marble everything - you could tell it was a little dated, but still very classy. We were a little surprised by the old tv, probably like 20in. But who cares when one entire was is a window looking out to Las Colinas with the Dallas skyline just behind that? Was a great view! We wanted to see the demo of Texas Stadium, and we were able to sit back in the room and watch it fall. Not a better view in the city! (especially since we were warm and didn't pay Irving $25 to park in a traffic jam!)
Overall, this hotel is great. Don't be fooled by the low rates they offer - hotel is very big for the area, so you can probably nab a room for less than $130, and a very nice one at that. We requested a nice view / high floor when booking and got it, so you should try that to get the Dallas view. Suites are located on the four corners of the tower, so basically they have a ton of suites. Wouldn't hurt to ask for an upgrade at checkin.
Front desk was nice, but we confused them a bit with the way we wanted to pay for the room. Cash and credit was involved, so its understandable there was some confusion. When we asked for our deposit back in cash, we were directed to the ATM in the lobby - but no, we wanted our deposit back not new cash. Anyway it was quickly resolved and we were on our way. Everyone was very friendly, though the concierge did seem to book it to the back when we were looking for a map of DFW. Topher was going to print us one, when a very nice guest suggested the magazine the hotel provides. It had a great map, FYI.
The hotel is close to DFW, and offers shuttle service for free to DFW, or anywhere within 5 miles. The hotel also offers a pretty extensive mini bar in the room featuring items designed to stimulate each of the 5 senses. However, they do not have white noise machines - though the alarm clock does some bird noises or something. Who can sleep to bird noise? Anywho...
I was impressed with the free parking at an Omni. I guess thats just because I was not downtown. Watermark, La Mansion, Boston, Austin Downtown all charge for parking so that was a nice perk.
The pool is a bit odd to get to if you take the elevator from the tower to the pool level - takes you through a maze, past account, and down another elevator. Weird - Austin Downtown and Houston at Westside also had weird room-to-pool routes, must be an Omni thing.
I hope I have given you enough information, and hope you enjoy your visit to beautiful Las Colinas. The Omni is an excellent choice!
Forgot to mention Mokara, the full service salon and spa on property. We didn't use it, but its there for the taking.
