At the 11th hour, we decided to visit Jefferson, TX for its historic appeal.
There were several B&Bs available but there was something special about this one--and fate delivered a wonderful experience.
A very charming home with all the comforts of modern life in a yesteryear ambiance...We stayed in room five which was the only room downstairs. The room was very large with a king size bed, a very comfortable mattress, and luxury linens and toiletries (my favorite is the orange-scented bath soap). Our closet included a dressing area. The bathroom more than met our expectations--decorated like a turn-of-the century bathroom but with the comforts of contemporary life. The entire B&B was meticulously kept!
Our hosts were gracious and endearing. They made us feel like they had known us for a long time and we were becoming reacquainted. There were times when all the guests and hosts visited. Those were very special moments, learning about the life of one another, our experiences, and our dreams.
There was always coffee, flavored coffees, juices, teas, bottled water, and soft drinks available. Pam always made sure we had a bedtime snack--there were various crackers, cookies, and granola bars and delicious brownies. This made all of us feel special.
What a wonderful breakfast! Fresh fruit with yogurt followed by a hearty breakfast; some of the dishes were served in individual ramekins. The breakfast was well-received and appreciated by everyone. The breakfast kept us going until dinner. Hoping for the same menu on the subsequent morning, we were pleasantly surprised with an equally lavish and tasteful delight.
The grounds are beautiful. I sometimes took my morning tea on the ample front porch on one of the rockers. There is a large gazebo that provided solitude and a different view of the landscape--another wonderful place for morning coffee or tea or just visiting with one another.
I appreciated the fact that there was off-street parking. There is plenty of parking and it is secluded from the street. The inn was at the very end of the street so there was no traffic to disturb us while we were enjoying the grounds.
The inn is within walking distance of the business district or "downtown." It is a pleasant walk with magnificent scenery and old homes. Our hosts provided places of interest including recommendations for lunch and dinner. They are also well-known in the community and whenever we ventured into an establishment and were asked where we were staying, we would often hear, "What a lovely couple and a wonderful inn."
Though this was our first visit to Jefferson, it will certainly not be our last. We'll make sure to stay at the Delta Street Inn--our new home away from home.
