Stayed at the Palace hotel on a Friday and Saturday night. There was a broken rocking chair in the room and the chaise lounge had stains all over it. The rest of the room was good..... lots of room and other than the lounger, quite clean. Bed was large and comfortable with lots of pillows. Bathroom was nice with a claw foot bathtub and a good shower. We stayed in room 15, which overlooked the side street so we thought it would be quiet. Unfortunately, there was a bar that played live music till midnight and it got even louder when the patrons left the bar! Obviously this was not the hotel fault, but was quite annoying. Somehow, the cleaning staff missed our room, so we had to go down and exchange our towels. All in all not a great experience.

Room tip: Unless you have good earplugs, stay away from room 15.

...At least, I think they were negotiable. The desk clerk was auctioning off rooms to those of us who'd not made prior reservations elsewhere. We got a better price than through one of the travel services. The room was notable for a ghost who apparently had better things to do that night than bother us. The huge bed was extremely comfortable and the room well appointed in Victorian style. The bathtub was romantic. It's too bad we couldn't order a late night repast, as that would have completed the scene and knocked our rating up to Five. Parking was readily available in back. One sticking point was the windows, which actually stuck halfway, preventing us from getting sufficient fresh air until we figured out how to get the portable air condition to draw it in. Then we had no problems. We'd stay there again, if Port Townsend was our destination.

Room tip: Get a good ghost who'll show up.

Stayed with my adult daughter during a weekend event at Fort Worden (about 10 minutes by car away). We had a two bedroom room at the front of the hotel with an ensuite bathroom. Both two bedroom rooms and ensuites can be tricky to find in the historic hotels of Port Townsend. Overall a very nice stay and I did like the high ceilings, antique furniture (a little worse for wear) and neat central communal areas in the hotel.

We had two fans in our room which kept it sufficiently cool. There is no air conditioning or elevators so those high ceilings mean some loong staircases. The front desk closes at 10 pm so you use your key to return.

Towels were a little dinghy. I will probably return next year.

Room tip: 2nd floor if you don't like stairs.

This hotel has an excellent location in downtown Port Townsend. It is within walking distance to some great restaurants and shops. The decor is from a bygone era. We had a room with a private bath. The room was large, clean and had some time period furniture. Unfortunately, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Port Townsend lacks decent hotels in general and we chose this hotel based on availability. It was expensive for what we got.

My friend and I love this hotel and the town. Our room had such a Victorian feel to it. The hotel was clean, people friendly and it was right in the heart of town. We were not disappointed and enjoyed our stay there. Port Townsend is a wonderful old town with so much charm. The room had plenty of room for two and at night the view of the town was so neat.
