We just returned from our three day stay at the Manresa Castle. It was a lot of fun as long as you know going in that you're staying in an older hotel without all the modern conveniences - but that's why we stayed there! I was hoping for ghosts but I think the couple on offer are made up. Oh well. Since I'm not a fan of creepy old hotel elevators, we stayed on the ground floor. The rooms are enormous, the bed was huge and very comfortable. No fridge or microwave or any of that modern stuff, but there is a very classy library where you can sit and lord it over all and sundry. The usual hotel shower situation is the same as I've experienced internationally. You never know what to expect, so instead of getting all pissy like some reviewers, I treat it as an exercise in cunning - turning the knob juuuust the right amount between scalding and freezing and then being nimble enough to jump out of the way as soon as someone else in the building uses the toilet.

It you like to stay somewhere that is out of the ordinary, this is the place. Be ready to step back into history here. Some could call it old and run down, but I call it unique and different. The rooms are old and small, but everything you need works just fine. The stairs and floor boards creak when you walk over them, but that's all part of the appeal.

The front desk staff were friendly and the bar staff made for a fun evening. The servers in the dinning room were a little disorganized but the food was good. Overall, we had an enjoyable time staying at the castle and would recommend you give it a try just once and then try some of the other local hotels in Port Townsend.

Manresa castle sounds and looks stunning from reviews and pictures. But don't be fooled. The rooms are dirty and there are no amenities. When we pulled in to the parking lot there was 1 other car there. Sure it was February but there should at least be multiple workers. The front desk women had to come up to our room( 302 ) to do everything instead of a maid or housekeeping. After spending only 5 minutes in the room my white socks had turned yellow. Some of the rooms don't have connected bathrooms so who wants to walk down the hall in the middle of the night. It is probably the worst hotel i have set foot in. The only good thing about the place is the restaurant. The food was great and Javier and bob were very helpful. Please eat here but stay somewhere else!

Room tip: Get a room with a connected bathroom if you must stay here

This isn't a modern hotel, but it has real charm at a time when that's increasingly rare and the rooms are perfectly comfortable. The prices aren't excessive for what you get. If you go to Port Townsend, you're probably interested in historic buildings, and this hotel certainly is one.

Hate to share bad news about our stay but hope this review is helpful for people looking to stay here and also management! We stayed here one night August 2nd and were part of a group of 9 cyclists. It is a lovely property that our group has stayed at in the past. We were told by front desk clerk there was no place secure to leave our bikes, that the janitor had keys to locked up area and he was not around anyway - she did not offer to even look into this for us. In the past the bikes were always placed in this secure area. We noticed one bike in this area when we arrived. She told us that we could however take the bikes up in the elevator to our room anytime.
When we came back from dinner in town around 9:30 pm and asked if we could have the elevator take us up to our 3rd floor room (with our bikes) the front desk clerk was angry and said it was too late and we would disturb other guests! He eventually took us up but was downright grumpy.
In the morning we mentioned to the front desk clerk that we needed to have breakfast quickly in order to catch ferry. She let us sit in the usual breakfast area having coffee and didn't tell us that on Sundays the breakfast is in the restaurant. So we had little time to eat by the time we got to the right place. Our breakfast was also delayed being served to us for some reason (with apologies from waitress). It arrived with eggs watery and undercooked leaving us about 10 minutes to eat before having to leave.
Overall bad impression left by the unhappy and unhelpful front desk staff :(
