We find the American Club a fabulous luxury resort with exceptional personal service. On arriving we are warmly greeted by each staff member and personally escorted to our luxurious Superior Room in their newest wing, where the rooms are much larger than in the original building. They have each room with its own unique décor and named for a famous person. Ours is The William Faulkner Room which is elegantly decorated with a lush linens on the king bed, a refreshment center with wet bar, and a comfortable sitting area. The stylish Kohler bath features are the highlight! A large whirlpool bath with plenty of jets even fills from the ceiling! The bathroom has a toilet with a "slow closer lid" and a fabulous shower has multiple, adjustable shower heads - a rain shower overhead, two showers heads from the upper wall and two showers in the middle of the wall. The water is great, too. After each shower, our skin has a fresh glow, our hair has a wonderful shine and we notice a few wrinkles aren't showing. The complimentary shuttle service is terrific, eliminating a need for a car. Again, the staff is always alert to any of our needs and promptly handles any questions or concerns. Free internet is a nice touch for a resort, too.

Room tip: The resort has a variety of accommodations at The American Club. The newest wings room are larger suites than the original hotel. For those seeking the resort activities but not the higher price tag, there are accommodations at the Inn on Woodlake.

Starting with the arrival into Kohler Village, potted flowers with double American Flags per pole, line the road leading to the this remarkable destination. The best we've ever enjoyed include the "bathrooms", "beds", "golf" (just hosted the US Womens Open and hosting a Ryder Cup in 2020) & an array of dining options (12 in all). Every experience was "genuine", and lost "art" in America. Uber Luxury Hospitality at its Best.........try The American Club. Thank you for a job extremely well done. We'll be back!!!

Room tip: Arrive early and stay late, much to do. Visit the Shops at Woodlake. Sports Cor 100,000 sq ft of facilities, with two pools, sand beach, and 12 tennis courst (both indoor and out).

We had a great time at the American Club. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. The shower was awesome (as you would expect). The room is very clean and they do a great job keeping it organized and clean - we laughed after the room was cleaned and we had left some things on the desk - they were organized for us and put onto a cloth rather than directly on the desk. The turn down service is wonderful as well - they seemed to almost clean the room a second time and restock everything.

The valet was included in the room rate, which was a nice surprise, and made things getting in and out less stressful (along with the shuttle)

The food at the facility was wonderful.

I would say that I would not pick this place to bring my young kids - not enough to do at the hotel for younger kids. Also, no pool or work out facility on site - you have to take a shuttle to an indoor pool and work out room. I think this is more of an adult get away and a great one to relax, enjoy golf and the spa.

Two things that made us knock it down from 5 to 4:
1. The concierge was not informed to the level you would expect. We were there during a golf event and they didn't seem to know anything specific about the event (i.e., what time things started and ended) and what was closed. They did call to find out but it seemed they should just know the basics. Also, when we inquired about things not owned by the American Club - they had no idea and really discouraged us from doing anything that didn't relate to their business. They went so far as to tell us things would be "too busy" and "too hard to get to" when there was no traffic and we were going 4 miles away to Sheboygan. The map they gave us also had us taking a very long route to get to the lake and when we looked at the map ourselves, there was a very direct route with only 2 turns
2. The hair dryer in our room did not work - it would start and then overheat in 30 seconds. When we left a note for the housekeeping asking for a new one, they said this one worked correctly and safely. I would have brought my own if I realized how hard it was to get them to switch it.

Overall, I would go back and we had a great time.

An interesting mix of hits and misses. All the physical facilities were gorgeous. Loved the "old world" environment as a respite from our daily lives. Our “Superior” room (a suite) was stunning and spacious but the mattress was so (shockingly) bad that we had them switch it out. The restaurants were all very nice and with good menus but the execution had some shortcomings. Service was always friendly and with good intentions but inexperienced staff was evident in various areas. Quite a few staff members told us how they’d just recently started and were in training. Breakfasts in the Wisconsin Room were very good. Sunday brunch was fantastic! The Immigrant Restaurant is definitely special though many people won’t appreciate the high prices for small plates. The adjacent Winery Bar is equally great. We went from the Winery Bar before dinner to the Immigrant Restaurant for dinner and back to the Winery Bar after with fantastic, seamless service… a very nice experience. I really appreciate that the wine menus in all their restaurants have Wine Spectator and/or Wine Advocate ratings for almost all their wines. The golf was incredible with perfect conditions. Our caddie on Straits had also been there just one month which was only evident in poor knowledge (reading) of the greens but in everything else he was good. At reservation booking I asked very specific questions about the impact that preparations for the US Women’s Open would have on public play of the Blackwolf Run golf courses (e.g. tee boxes off limits, carts on fairways, etc.). I was given false information that could have been a disaster. It wound up ok though I would have booked our golf a little differently had I had the accurate answers. Overall… While some of the experiences did not meet expectations, they always addressed the issues to our satisfaction (e.g. comp’ing a dessert or portion of the meal). There are enough things to like about The American Club that we would go back again though we’ll likely hit a couple of other high end golf resorts before doing so.
