As a Diamond Hhonors member, I stay at Hamptons a lot but this one in Wausau, Wisconsin surprised me with something I've never seen before. Upon entering my room, I found a "gift bag" filled with miniature candy bars, Cheetos, water and other assorted treats. There was also a sign taped to the refrigerator identifying this as MY Suite. A special welcome note was also included.
Ironically I had spent the preceding two evenings at the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago where my wife and I were surprised with a complimentary bottle of vintage champagne to recognize our wedding anniversary. In a crazy kind of juvenile and silly way, this little "Halloween-like" bag of treats and computer printed sign meant so much more to me.
I don't know if the staff does this for every elite status guest but the fact they did it for me really made my day!
In addition, Jessica was very friendly and helpful upon check in. Once she heard I was planning to get dinner at a local restaurant, she quickly produced a coupon for a free dessert which she gave to me. I don't know why, but these little acts of kindness really do a lot to ease the burden of travel. Now only if the staff could have prevented the car alarm from sounding for what seemed like five minutes straight at 2:30 AM directly outside my window, this stay would have been perfect.
