It was an overcast misty day at the end of March, and I was waiting at the intersection of 15th Street and J.F. Kennedy Blvd. to join a group for the Love Letter Tour. However, nobody was at the Love Park and I started to worry. I entered The Love Letter Welcome Center, a building with a round roof and asked about this tour. An employee told me that I was lucky that the guide was still there. Indeed, Rhonda Mode was about to leave when I paid for my ticket. I was the only one there so Rhonda was my private guide. The entire tour is by the Septa train starting at 16th/JFK Blvd. west to 69th Street. There are a series of graffiti drawings with text on the buildings’ walls. Rhonda was fantastic, so knowledgeable and full of enthusiasm. I was jotting down notes while she was telling me about each mural, its location, its message, and the context. She also had a book with her and showed me text messages in the book’s pictures. Those interested in graffiti can buy the book “The Art of Getting Over” by Stephen Powers. Thank you, Rhonda for your friendly and knowledgeable companionship!
