We stayed at this hotel on a visit to the area to see the Tikal ruins. The hotel is, by many people's accounts (people on trip advisor, locals, and people I met travelling), the best hotel in the area. Having said that, it is a bit outdated, as far as the rooms and bathrooms go. Despite it being outdated, I would still guess, that it is the best in the area. The hotel has a beautiful location on the lake and it is decent and clean, but not a 4-5 star. It used to be a Westin, but is no longer. My guess is that it wasn't able to upgrade/update the rooms enough to maintain the necessary Westin standard. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to others, but just felt I should be honest about it being outdated. It has what you need, but is not luxurious. There is no free wi-fi, and even when you pay to use the computer/internet in the lobby, it is super slow (keep in mind the location is remote, so maybe this is to be expected). There is a complimentary airport shuttle, which is a huge plus, especially because the hotel is in a remote location. The hotel location is not only remote, but it is quite a ways off the main road, and no regular taxis go by. So, be sure to have any tours/transportation pre- lined up. Trying to arrange transport last minute and through the hotel is really expensive. As far as meals go, you are pretty much bound to eating at the hotel, as there is nothing else close by. The food/service are good, but of course, costs are higher than they would be if you had non-hotel places to eat. There is a complimentary Mayan Sauna, which you should try. Also a sunset boat trip on the lake, in the evenings. Take advantage of these perks if you can. One negative experience we had was that our luggage (plus other guests luggage) did not arrive with our flight, and the airline sent it on a flight a few ours later. Yes, this was the airline's fault, and not the hotel's, but the hotel refused to let the shuttle driver go back to get our luggage for us. The airline did eventually get our luggage sent to the hotel. But the experience reflected badly that the hotel was blatantly unwilling to help their newly arrived guests. It may have cost a little more in time and gas, but they should have at least made the effort to make sure their guests were taken care of. They could have settled with the airline later, instead of making us try to figure out how to get our luggage out to this remote location.
Ask for 2nd floor room, so you can have a balcony to enjoy the view of the lake.
