This hotel is my absolute favorite, & I have stayed in many of the rooms. For one or two winters, I used to stay there every weekend, as I commute out of town to work in Anchorage. (I still commute from out of town to work weekends, but have since stayed at the Red Roof hotel, only because it offers a private bath, more amenities, for a cheaper price.) Regardless, the Q Inn has always had my heart. Each room is eclectic & charming. They are all different. Down pillows. Nice furniture, dressers, unique artwork, end tables, etc. I know a couple, who are married, and both nurses, who have stayed here on weekends to work, too. They commuted in from Big Lake. My mother & I stayed there once with the shared bathroom. And, my husband has stayed there with me several times. The bathrooms are very clean, as is the entire inn. It must have changed, since it seems they now have hostel rooms? There is free interent in the lobby. And as other posters have said, it has a communal feel to it. Full kitchen for use for it's guests. Refrig, stove, & what not. Coffee mugs & a make you own coffee pot w/ a jar of coffee. Unless you have an outside room, the front door locks at a certain hour, & outside guests are not allowed in the rooms. The TV did not get many channels. And the walls were a little thin. My husband ate at the Indian type restaurant below the inn & did not care for it, saying it was overpriced. But right across the street there is a nice restaurant called Jen's & a bakery for good coffee. The area is mid-town & very central to Costo, downtown, Century 16 theater, Walmart, & Barne's & Noble, (for those coming in from the Bush & who would be interested in these things.) The Moose's Tooth is a walk away, & so is New Sagaya, REI, the Great Outdoor Clothing Company, the Bear Tooth, & other restaurants, such as the Greek Corner, Ramanos, & some local dive type bars. Parking is a little small, but adequate. Like I said, I choose to stay at the Red Roof in the winter, for a better internet price & more amenities, (business king, mini-frig, microwave, coffee pot, & 25" TV w/ all the channels,) but I still love the Q. In fact, it saddens me to drive by in the summer & see a vacancy sign. This shouldn't be w/ the exorbinant hotel prices this time of year really gouging the tourists. The last summer rate I paid for 2 people, shared bath was $72 w/ tax. I just love the warm feeling there & never want to leave. Even the sheetrock in the halls of the upstairs rooms is "artsy" & curvy. Very cool place!
