When prices at nearby Harrison Hot Springs went sky high for the weekend, I reluctantly looked at places further afield. I was surprised at the pictures of this new (as of September, 2009) B&B and called for further info. The live-in caretaker Dan was so helpful and and knowledgeable, I decided to make reservations.
Upon arrival that weekend, my partner and I were surprised at the quality and beauty of the B&B and its quiet rural surroundings. Ahhh. We were suddenly much more relaxed just after crossing the threshold. Dan and his wife were the consummate hosts, and also great cooks for the breakfast. We upgraded to the Cheam View Suite and were not disappointed.
If there is anything at all to complain about, it is that on a super sizzling hot day, it is hard to cool such a large lofty structure and it was quite warm. In their defense, they made an appointment with the a/c company ASAP to look into the matter. We also were shown the other large suite before those guests arrived, and as it was separate over the carriage house, it had its own a/c unit and was quite cool. Our suite had the bonus balcony where we could sit in the breezy shade and overlook the water/ river across the road. Delightful.
Beds and linens were plush and ever so comfortable. Room was more than spacious with a huge jacuzzi tub. Watching the flat screen TV was easier from bed than from the leather sofa that faced the water. I wish we had more time to avail ourselves of the books in the cozy library just outside our room tolearn more about the area.
Instead, we drove to Harison Lake and later to Kilby Beach (fun!) - on Dan's wonderful suggestion- on the Fraser River to enjoy the sun and water. Like he said, we could enjoy the crowds at the lake, or the folks on the river, then come back to the peace and quiet at the end of the road where we were saying. Perfect advice!
Bonus was meeting the other wonderful guests the next morning and creating new friendships.
Besides the bucolic location of this delightful hidden gem, local farm tours, old town Kilby, and other nearby attractions besides harrison Hot Springs warrant a return trip SOON.
