My husband and I have just spent ten days at Ridee Villa. We don't normally stay for so long in one place, but Sumith and his family made us feel very welcome from our first contact, arriving and throughout our stay. As others have described, the breakfast is stunning - including the extra pots of tea. Although not now a regular offering, we did have one typical Sri Lankan evening meal which was superb and fully enjoyed our mix of Sri Lankan and western style breakfasts! Information and advice was spot on.. whether a local trip, when to use a bus vs tuktuk, a trip out whale watching (and Sumith joined us, so it was extra special) or which route to take to get to a restaurant post monsoon heavy rain! Yes, the road is a bit busy at times, but this will change once the new highway continues to Matara... it quietens at night and you are more likely to be woken by a noisy barbet than the hooting of an overtaking bus. If you choose here, you will not be disappointed by the natural honesty and friendliness of Sumith and family.

Room tip: We had plenty of room in a deluxe suite.. superb large shower!

My wife and I just spent 7 nights at Ridee Villa and found it to be very enjoyable,Sumith and all his staff are very helpful and could not do enough for us.
Whether we wanted to ask advise on trips to local tourist spots or use the internet nothing was too much trouble.
I would recommend Ridee to anyone but especially couples.
It is on the main road but its easy to cross and then you are 2 minute walk to the beach.
I would certainly stay there again if I go back to Unawatuna.
Too sum up on how friendly a place it is one afternoon we arrived back at the hotel and Sumith was making fresh fruit juice,we collected our key and went to our room,2 minutes later there was a knock on the door and we were presented with two freshly made fresh mixed fruit juices that tasted fantastic.
Thanks to all that work there for making it a memorable week.

Room tip: Rooms near the rear may not have as much traffic noise but it is not really a issue.

The owner makes it his responsibility that you have a good holiday. I have never been looked after so well and yet you get the feeling that this is just in Sumith's nature. I had a few problems that were nothing to do with the guest house but the staff went well beyond what you would normally expect. Ridee Villa is beautifully decorated and situated opposite the entrance to the famous Unawatuna beach. I stayed in 5 places while touring Sri Lanka. This was the least expensive and by far the best.

We stayed here for 5 nights and really enjoyed it. The owner and his staff really couldnt do enough to help us and really make the trip for us. We arrived early at 10am and received a welcome drink on arrival and complimentary b/fast as our room wasn't quite ready. The hotel is far nicer than most of the other accommodation which is right on the beach front, and is literally across the road from the beach. In summary:
the Pros are:
Clean, nicely decorated spacious rooms with nice bathrooms.
Air conditioned rooms with mosquito plugs Good b/fast (cooked and buffet).
Laundry service
Free beach towels
Towels and bed lined changed every day
Friendly staff who can't do enough to help.
Walking distance to plenty of restauarants and 2 mins to beach.
Stunning beaches.
Local Bus stop outside the hotel (20 rupees to galle or circa 5 pence) as do the a/c buses which are slightly more.
Tuck tucks regularly pass (350 rupees to /Galle £1.75 - don't pay more they will try it on).
the Cons:
Can't think of any.

Room tip: Food Banana garden restaurant (just on main road south out of galle), on beachfront, good for quiet meal. Good food - mainly sea food. Sun and sand restaurant (just on main road south out of galle) on beachfront, also nice for quiet meal, though avoid mixed grill as meat is on chewy side. Chilli cafe / bar (at end of divali road) On the beach, quite lively, younger crowd, with some dance music. Happy banana (at end of divali road) On the beach, lively, younger crowd, with dance music and tv showing english football / cricket. Service is slow Good little italian at (at end of divali road) right on beach front, nice ambience and lovely pizzas.

I stayed at Riddee villa for 5 days during the busy Christmas period, and it remains one of my most unforgettable experiences to date. Sumith, the handsome proprietor of the lodge is most hospitable and very personable. Despite being a full house, he gave every guest utmost attention. His small team of smiling assistants also make every effort to make your stay personable. Mr Sumith organises tours where he shows you the local area, and gives you a flavour of the silver making trade that once thrived on the property. I highly recommend this lodge, and will continue to make it my home in Sri Lanka.

Room tip: Choose the room with the poster bed. Wifi works best in the reception area.
