We went to the Villa Fiorio for my husbands birthday. We thought it was beautiful and all the staff extremely helpful. We arrived in the afternoon and as I was 7 months pregnant I was hungry. We had missed lunch but when I asked if they could find me something to eat they prepared a wonderful meal of cooked meat (various salamis and parma ham) a selection of cheeses and bread. They even set a table for us in an ivy clad alcove at the side of the pool. Our room was pretty basic but comfortable and clean. We found the walk into Frascati was also not too bad and on the first day we managed it four times (not bad for a pregnant woman!). To get there we got a train from Fiumicino airport to Rome Termini (12 euros) and then another to Frascati (tickets for both we bought at the airport). We went into Rome on Sunday and Monday and altho the trains were less frequent on the Sunday it was easy enough to arrange. Try buying a Birg which costs 4 euros and can be used on trains/metro/buses around Rome - really useful and cheap method of sightseeing. We were completely happy to be based near Frascati as its a beautiful little place with plenty of good restaurants and shops. In fact a friend who stayed in the centre of Rome wished they had gone there instead! The only real complaint we had of the trip was the responsibility of the agent we booked through. On the return trip we flew out of Fiumecino at 1805 hrs into Paris CDG at 2015. Our onward flight into Manchester was at 2115hrs. Leaving only an hour to transfer ourselves and our cases to the homeward flight. We got off the Paris flight, met by a member of Air France staff who rushed us through the airport as our flight was on last call. Our baggage did not make the return flight but was delivered the next day.
NOT taking away from the holiday experience - hotel was fantastic. Rome was fantastic. Lastminute.com let us down a little with the knock-on effect of missing luggage and little to no time to catch the return flight.

  • Liked — Clean, beautiful surroundings, relaxing atmosphere
  • Disliked — Meals in the Hotel restaurant were quite poor and limited

Beautiful old villa with lots of antiquities in beautiful and calm surroundings with a fine swimming pool. Kind service. Good value for money if you compare the prices of the hotels in the city of Rome.
Still there is some substantial negative factors. The main problem is transportation. According to the hotels own website there shall be a bus stop in front of the hotel. That's correct. But there is no bus! The distance to the nearest train station is not 1 km, but surely about 1,5 km. After walking around in Rome you most days need a taxi from the train station to the hotel (12 euro), but taxi wasn't available every evening.
The cleanliness of the rooms wasn't quite satisfying and the over all impression of the hotel is a little shabby despite of its beauty.

After a wonderful 3 weeks touring Italy by car my husband and I wanted a night outside of Rome before returning our rental car early the next morning. In beautiful Grottaferrata we were guided to a wonderful Grand Villa called Grand Hotel Villa Fiorio. It was beautiful and serene. The reception area is elegant and comfortable with many antiques and two fireplaces. Our room was very large and comfortable with a terrace overlooking the garden. The bathroom was spacious and included all amenities. The hotel restaurant was elegant and refined and had wonderful food and service. It was truly a treat after driving all day. Our reservations for Rome were suddenly unavailable and the very professional Concierge, Manuelo, came to our aide. He spent more than an hour on the telephone calling Rome hotels and did not quit until he secured satisfactory accomodations for us for the remainder of our trip. He was indispensible and very appreciated. If you are looking for fine accomodations with personal service just 1/2 hour outside of Rome, this is the place to stay!

The hotel itself was clean and well presented, but the major fault was with the overall customer service. Prior to my visit I called to pre-order a bottle of champagne, the concierge and I both agreed that the champagne should be in the room for 12pm. When we arrived at 12 pm we were told that we would not be able to enter our room until 2pm. This was a shock to us as I felt the concierge should have told me when I pre-ordered champagne to be in the room for 12pm, that usually check-in is not until 2pm.

We decided to catch the bus from the bus stop outside the hotel into Frascati, which we were told comes every 20 minutes but in fact comes whenever it pleases. This I thought was a major negative aspect to our stay, for example one day we waited an hour to get the bus from the hotel into Frascati but we were reluctant to admit defeat and use the hotel taxi which costs 12euros for a 1km journey to Frascati. If we had known the difficulty to get to Frascati; we probably would not have stayed at this hotel. When we were given the key to our room we were told "it is up the stairs", we were not shown where it was by the concierge also we were not given any information about our room, for example I was not told that the room safe was behind a picture on the wall, I had to go to reception and ask where it was. I had to go to reception again to ask for the champagne I had pre-ordered 2 days prior to our trip, whilst I was drinking the "Sparkling wine" we noticed it was not actually champagne but sparkling wine, which I was later charged 40euros for. Finally, I also noticed that when I sat on the bed it was two single beds pushed together and not a double bed for which I had paid for.

The hotel is not very helpful, for example they didn’t tell us the buses stop at 10.30pm and that taxis stop at 9pm, also one morning they didn’t tell us there was a train strike, which meant we got to Rome 2 hours late, why did the concierge not tell us when we told him we were going to Rome? One evening we found a taxi that had just come from Rome and he charged us 6euros not the 12euros that the hotel taxi asks for.

We had to use the hotel taxi one evening and he had no change when it came to paying. He wouldn’t accept 10euros so he demanded the hotel put the 2euros on our room bill, which the hotel later charged me another 60 cents for tax purposes.

If you’re looking to sightsee I wouldn’t stay here, the transport is awful and taxis are a rip-off.

My wife from RSA loves to travel. I decided to take her and my 2 small children to Italia for the holidays. What a trip! The hotel was perfect for us. Just outside of Roma, so our children could run and play. Parks in the city. The city center is quaint and cultured. We spent more time in Friscati and Grottafretta then in Roma. We had a car and drove all over the country side. Exploring small towns and sampling all the sweets in the Cafe's! Every small town has a park so the the kids could burn energy. Rome is close by. We took the train once, drove in twice. Parking is a bear, park outside of Rome in the burbs and walk or take the Metro.

The hotel was nice. The staff was very friendly. The room was perfect for us. Mini bar well stocked. We only ate dinner there once. Dinner was good but nothing too special. The New Years Eve party was a blast! Food at the party was excellent!

  • Liked — Location, Small town, Friendly Staff
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Rent a car, drive the country side
