Only 15 minutes from the airport - which is great. The airport transfer and collection of bags was very efficient. We paid extra for a private shuttle - it's worth the £ 60.00 as you are the only passengers being delivered to the Carlota and the same when being collected for the airport return trip. Upon arrival the reception is large, clean with a great view of the pool area through a large glass atrium. Fab ! Rooms were ready. We were ground floor and they are clean, resonably spacious - sleeps 2 adults and 1 child adequately, with a balcony overlooking the pool, which is really nice. Hire a safe - it's worth it for around 15 euros for the week; they are electronic and bulit into the wardrobe. The room and bathroom could do with a slight upgrade now. I guess the hotel is around 5 years past the refit and it shows a little here and there - but only small, pedantic things like a cracked tile here or there, a tap that drips, overall though it was a good. Heated pool is great. Kids are with a small pool and swings and slides is fine. Big pool - too cold ! Lots of sunbeds so you'll always find space. You have to leave a deposit on the towels which is a little inconsiderate but that's that. Lots of sun and you can watch the jet's final approach before landing over the hotel - which sounds noisy but it's really not. The pool area does get a little noisy once a day around 11ish as water aerobics starts and lots of people join in - it is hilarious with a really nice bald headed guy running things - it's soon over though so my advice is to get a bed by the cold pool as you are far enough away from things. Music is a little loud at times. The whole hotel is cast concrete - floors, walls, etc and hard tiled which means echoes so at night it can be a little noisy but it's okay. Footsteps in heels mostly. We stayed during the French national hols so lots of French kids running around which was lovely. The French are very polite and know their food so the hotel really gets it right. At night the French use the balconys after the bars shut which can be loud if they are next door - which they were to us - but after their pastiche and arguments about Sarkozy they kiss goodnight and hit le sack !
Hotel grounds and gardens are nice, a little worn and tired in places. Beach is just outside the rear gate which is soft sand and always lots of room. FOOD is superb ! Waiter service always good and drinks are pretty cheap. We were half board which was the right thing as All Inclusive is just cheap food and beer. You simply have to try the restaurant on the stone pier by the beach. The Canarian potatoes, and the garlic prawns ARE TO DIE FOR. Incredible if a little expensive. Lovely outlook onto the sea and the manmade breakwater harbour. NOT KIDDING YOU HAVE TO EAT THESE DISHES 10/10 ! Carlota town is about 15 mins walk past the Sheraton along a dusty path and another big beach. Very quiet little town, with a couple of bars and shops. Not rowdy at all. There is no nightlife really at all around the Carlota apart from the hotel bars which are very quiet. You can try the Elba Sara next door - which looks a little more like a 3 star than a 4 star, or the Sheraton which looks like a reasonable 5 star. There's very little else at this part of the coast but these 3 hotels. To sum it all up, for a week of sun, you'll struggle to beat the Carlota overall for your holiday in Fuerteventura, in regards to value for money, standard of food and service, and complete user-friendliness. We will go back here later this year. Hope this helps....
Ground floor worked for us.
