Calgary is a modern city with a melting pot population. In recent years, it has become even cosmopolitan. In some areas of the city you can also see particular cultures of people emerging more so than in other areas.

While Calgary grows rapidly and the melting pot influences the city to a certain extent, the charm of the western culture can be seen especially during the Stampede. However, Calgarians also embrace the arts; in an August 2008 study, Maclean's magazine (Canada's national newsmagazine) declared Calgary to be Canada's most cultured city. Over 50% of Calgarians spend money to enjoy museums and the performing arts, giving Calgary the highest cultural participation rate of any city in Canada.

Calgary is proudly Albertan and proudly Canadian in its cultural outlook as well.
