Explore its collections by visiting one of the reading rooms. The Main Reading Room will probably be your first stop—you can sign up for a Library Card here, use the computers to browse the Internet, and access to the general collection of published material. Maps, Pictures, Manuscripts, Newspapers and Asian material can be viewed in one of the specialist reading rooms located throughout the building. Visitors have the choice of two great cafés bookplate and paperplate. They can also visit the Library’s bookshop which boasts a specialist range of Australian history, biography, fiction, cookbooks and children’s books and a range of National Library Publications and merchandise.
On the Ground Floor you will find the Treasures Gallery, showcasing some of the collection highlights. The display is changed regularly. The Exhibition Gallery hosts a diverse range of engaging temporary exhibitions. The Library’s events program includes behind-the-scenes tours, workshops for researchers and family historians, talks, kids’ activities and film screenings.
