The third-busiest airport in Thailand, Phuket International Airport (HKT) is located in the northern part of Phuket Island about 20 miles from downtown Phuket City. The airport, which handled 11.4 million passengers in 2014, plays a major role in the country's tourism industry. It serves as a hub for Thai AirAsia. Phuket International Airport has one runway and three commercial passenger terminals. Terminal 1 handles international flights, Terminal 2 handles domestic flights and Terminal X is used for charter flights. About 50 airlines fly between HKT and destinations within Thailand and elsewhere in Asia, as well as Oceania, the Middle East and Europe.
