      Very fun
Luke and Pip were really good hosts! You had a cocktail on arrival and then you picked 2 cocktails to make. It was so fun and entertaining. We had a brilliant time and the alcohol was delicious. Highly recommend!

      Hensol Castle
While staying at the Vale Resort, I decided to visit Hensol Castle to book afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday. The castle is only a 5-minute drive away, and although I could have booked online or at the Vale’s reception, I wanted to see the venue in person as it looked stunning. Upon arriving at Hensol, I walked into the reception area, where I was greeted by a smartly dressed gentleman who introduced himself as Brian. Brian welcomed us warmly and put us at ease right away. He mentioned that they were setting up for a wedding, but kindly allowed us to look around the grounds. Brian took the time to show us the grounds and the wedding setup, talking passionately about the venue, its history, and future events. I decided that I would definitely be booking the Gin tour as well as afternoon tea. As we left, Brian bid us a fond farewell and said he looked foward to seeing us again soon. When I returned to the Vale Resort, I mentioned how lovely Brian was at Hensol Castle and was told that he was the General Manager of the resort. I have been to many hotels and, usually, when I’ve tried to speak to a manager, I have been redirected to other staff. Brian is a credit to the venue and definitely gives the place a friendly, professional, and welcoming feel. I can’t wait to return for afternoon tea and the Gin tour.

      Great fun in beautiful surroundings.
Really enjoyed our Gin Making Experience yesterday. Everything was well presented and organised. We had plenty of support to decide which flavours to add and at no point were we rushed. In addition we sampled the different gins they make and the tour ended with a drink at the bar before taking home a whole bottle of gin that we made to our recipe. Great fun. Happy to recommend it.

Hensol Castle - Spiced Rum Tour
Very enjoyable and informative afternoon. History of the castle and an explanation of the manufacturing for the spiced rum were very good. Hugo, who explained he was not a distiller was very informative and gave us great assistance in the process of making our own bottle of spiced rum. Result for the rum is 15/10. Excellent. Also the drinks provided before and after were very acceptable. We purchased 2 bottles of the Judge Jenkins spiced rum puerly for research purposes - just to see how good our effort has turned out! The only reason I have not given it a 5 star review is because my question as to why the implication in the advertising is that you get a bottle each (my son accompanied me) when in fact it is a bottle etween you. There may well be a reason for the difference but HC have not bothered to reply.

      Beautiful afternoon tea
Visited with my wife and my in-laws for afternoon tea to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Fantastic service within minutes of our arrival. Afternoon tea was not only delicious, but also very generous portions! We all had a wonderful afternoon. Thank you to all the staff at Hensol Castle for an amazing afternoon! We will definitely be returning soon.

      Hensol and Hugo Delivered!
What Fantastic Afternoon! From the time we started the experience to the end the event was interesting and professionally delivered. Hugo took us on a verbal tour of gin making and Hensol Castle.. Then we spent time learning about botanicals in preparation for making our own gin. Hugo was knowledgeable and delivered the event in a way that was engaging and enjoyable. Well Done Hugo and Hensol

      Fun day gin making!
We had a fantastic day at Hensol Castle making gin! The tour was lovely, with lots of interesting fact about the history of gin and Hensol Castle itself. Our guide was Peter and he was fab, really patient and knowledgeable and willing to answer our questions and help us! The gin making was so much fun, cannot recommend it enough and I can’t believe what we produced in the time we were there! Thank you Pete for our gin, for the tasters and a brilliant day! Highly recommend!

      Gin tasting
I went with my husband and we really enjoyed it. The distiller was very knowledgeable about the history of the castle and the making of the gin. We were with a group of youngsters who were being disrespectful and disruptive but he handled the situation even though you could see he was embarrassed by their behaviour. He did apologise after the tour but it wasn't his fault

      Disappointing
Although the hotel is well kept, the staff and the service is very poor. Reception are either absent or unhelpful. Porterage is not existent. This food was good but there was no still or sparkling water available. For the money there are better alternatives.

      Amazing evening cocktail making
We did the cocktail making evening class. It was a great experience. The staff were amazing and very knowledgeable not just about the cocktails and gin on offer but the castle and history of the distillery. Very enjoyable evening and would highly recommend.

      Fun experience
Hensol is beautiful location with a rich history. I had done the Gin Tour last year and couldn't wait to come back, so I was gifted a gift voucher for the Gin Making experience. The Gin Making experience includes the tour, so there were a lot of elements that were similar to the Gin Tour, but I was expecting that, and I'd forgotten half of it anyway. Our guide was very friendly and experienced, and we had a small group so we received a lot of personalised help to ensure we got a delicious gin at the end of it. This experience really gives you a feel for how the different botanicals that go into your gin affect the taste, and how they change during the distillation process.

      Interesting and informative tour
Very informative tour about the history of gin, history of the castle and how those two things combine. Generous complimentary drinks. If we were to be critical, a lot of the tour was standing by posters and having them explained. The information itself was interesting, intriguing and delivered well (no complaints about that) but would’ve been good to have been more hands on - a walk around the actual distillation center or to see gin being made.

We visited Hensol Gin Distillery for a tour and tasting yesterday and wow, what an amazing experience and enjoyable afternoon! Our tour guide was Andrew who gave us the warmest of welcomes and was full of knowledge and enthusiasm. We started with a cold gin and lemonade garnished with fresh fruit which we we able to take on the tour. The tour itself was approximately 90 minutes long which we felt was perfect and was full of interesting imformation but also succint so it didn't get too much and cross over into boring. We saw the botanicals room where we did a tasting, the gin making room, the factory itself where staff were busily filling bottles and ended in the most amazing little bar where we were then given another gin and tonic! All of that for £25 per person, what amazing value for money! There was a shop at the end where you could buy products and all of our tour did as they were so reasonably priced. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. We went as part of my partners birthday present and it made for the perfect gift. My top tip is to get a lift so you can fully enjoy the experience but even if you are driving, you get a miniature bottle of gin and a bottle of tonic to take away so you don't miss out. Inexpensive, great fun, memories made and left feeling a little merry...my idea of a perfect day!

I was bought the Hensol gin making experience for Father's Day and went with my wife. Hensol is a breathtaking building and we've been there before several times but didn't know what was going on beneath our feet in the basement.

Andrew and Jessica were our guides and were warm, funny and entertaining. We got some of the history of gin and also of the castle. Then we had a go at gin making ourselves. Andrew achieved a good balance between advising us and letting our imaginations run free. We made a citrus gin and tried it at home later. Not bad at all.

All in all it was an excellent few hours and I'd recommend it to anyone with even a vague liking for the spirit.

we are so happy that you were able to enjoy a belated fathers day with us at Hensol. As you say the grounds of Hensol are breathtaking and you would never know what is happening in the basements. we are so happy that Andrew and Jessica were able to come off as funny, warm and entertaining. The history of gin is very long and complex and we don't want to bog people down with all the different dates that are involved with gin and our castle but we do want people to know the rich history we have here. we are so glad that Andrew was able to achieve a good balance of advising you on the different botanicals that we can offer but you are making your own gin so it is good that you were able to let your imagination run wild. The recommendation to anyone who has a vague liking of gin is also fantastic. Thank you for this wonderful review. The team at Hensol castle distillery

We arrived at Henson Castle, on a beautiful sunny day. The castle is simply breathtaking. The welcome at reception was warm and friendly and we were looking forward to our Henson Castle Gin Tour and tasting experience.
Andrew, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for his subject was exactly what we wanted. After our first gin, (which really good) Andrew told us the fascinating history of gin, history of the castle and the gin making in the castle, all very, very interesting. The tasting of the pure forms and learning about the basics was a great introduction into flavouring.
The experience was amazing and I will definitely be booking the Gin School - Make Your Own, for our next gin experience. I will also be recommending this visit to all my friends.

I was recommended this tour by a friend who came around June, and said it was lovely, so I just had to come see for myself with my other half.
I'm not sure what they were talking about but I did not enjoy myself. Other half did on the other hand.
The tour was given by a girl, Clemmie I believe her name was.
The gin to start with was beautiful I must say. Very cold.
Unfortunately, it did not seem like our guide knew what she was doing, or what she was talking about.
The tour very long and irrelevant information was mentioned on quite a few occasions.
The tasters in the botanical room = stunning, the orange gin was to die for, not literally.
Again the guide seemed to struggle in what she was telling us.. And did not answer many of our questions.
Back in the bar we were given another gin, cannot fault it. Well done to whoever makes the gin downstairs.
The girl behind the bar did not seem very friendly and was not very talkative.
There was a young man, who my husband described as 'dashing', he was very talkative and polite, unfortunately he had to leave us for his break, as he was telling us all about his gin making which seems like an interesting process, we may come back for him to lead us through that.
From my experience at Hensol, I might recommend a tour here, with another tour guide, quite disappointing really as I love Gin and was looking forward to this for a while.
Good luck young man, you seem to have a bright and brilliant future ahead of you.

What a cracking day at Hensol Castle, starting off with an afternoon tea (Rhubarb and Vanilla choice is so flavoursome, takes me right back, try it) and then onto the Gin Tour.

Tasting Gin is always a treat, however with a very tentative guide and generous tasting opportunities what wasn't there to like....

A top day from start to finish, thank you

Hensol Castle gin making experience was organised as a Birthday gift for my husband,by our daughter…it’s a really nice venue and the Tour guide,Hugo was extremely knowledgeable with great information not only about the history of Gin, but also the History of the Hensol Estate and castle.
A lady was taken unwell not long after the tour started and he dealt with the situation very professionally and was able to continue with the Tour for the rest of the group.
You get to make your own bottle of gin..(yet to taste ours !)..time wise it’s a long tour ,just under four hours..something you need to bear in mind ,if like us ,you were relying on a taxi…pretty non existent ,which is surprising for such a big venue..hosting weddings, hotel and the welsh rugby team!
Didn’t find the reception staff particularly helpful, one receptionist put taxi numbers on her computer screen and walked off…we ended up ringing the place we were staying ( The white Lion ) to explain we probably wouldn’t make our7pm dinner booking and they kindly sent a member of staff to pick us up.
It wouldn’t stop us recommending the Tour,as it was very informative and interesting, the gin and tonic in the bar at the end was delicious ..nice selection of drinks and merchandise available too..Gin Tour guide Hugo was excellent and friendly bar staff too.
Just factor in organising your cab ahead .

First, the venue is STUNNING! Gorgeous on the outside, but wasn’t expecting so modern & nice on the inside!
The bar downstairs is lovely, (wish they’d open for the public ! Haha)
Gin tour was a lot of fun, Peter was full of knowledge and was entertaining, would highly recommend ! Hoping to go back to do the gin making next time. Highly recommend !
You are offered welcome drinks, then top ups through out, then tasting out their different flavours & then drinks in the bar to finish, very generous :) ! .. also for the guests who weren’t drinking they were given a goodie bag made up of mini gins that they had missed out on on the day which I thought was a really nice touch

The tour was very informative and interesting. Our guide Peter knew a lot about the history of not only the castle but of the surrounding area. The discussion about the creating of the gin and flavours was well informed and engaging. Peter was interested to listen to us and came out with interesting nuggets of information. Plus we each had two full proper servings of gin in addition to the tasters. Definitely worth a visit.

What an interesting and enjoyable experience! So much more than just a tour. Hugo our guide was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of Hensol Castle as well as the gin distillery side, he brought it all to life and time flew. We were treated to a welcome gin drink to have with our tour, then gin tasting was explained in detail so we were fully involved in the experience and then a leisurely gin and tonic to finish in the bar. As I was driving my husband had his there but Hugo gave me a takeaway package to have at home. Very thoughtful. We had full afternoon tea afterwards and the food did not disappoint...delicious, lots of lovely different cakes and sandwiches accompanied by a choice of specialist teas. We chose Danish Pastry and Chocolate Brownie teas. Who knew leaf tea could taste so like pastries and cake! Thoroughly recommend a visit as I can't write everything here that was on offer.

    Beautiful tour, really knowledgeable guide.
Started off with a lovely gin, taken through the tour by Andrew, who really knew his stuff. Very funny too.
However, we were introduced by a girl, I cannot remember her name for the life of me, but being brutally completely honest, she was cold and rude.
We had more of a better greeting from the other tour guide Peter who was just lovely and friendly.
Others who were joining us had similar thoughts. Andrew; lovely work, thank you very much for the tour and accommodating us older generation.
Young lady; could do better elsewhere other than working with customers. What a shame.
