          Rush rush rush.
Just don’t do it. We left early from Chania, two modes of transport to get us to Rethymno for the ferry. Queues at the port to get tickets. We weren’t sat together on the boat, even though we booked our tickets together. Lovely boat though, with a great snack bar on our level. Good choice of refreshments. Once we docked, we were picked up by a coach and an English speaking guide. We went to Oia first. Parked just outside the main area, and wandered into town. I believe we had 1.5hrs at this stop, which was no time at all. Oia was absolutely rammed . Not pleasant at all. I’ve previously spent a week on Santorini staying in Pyrgos. That was much better. Had a coffee, looked in one or two shops as that’s all we had time for. Then we headed back to the bus. Then we went to Fira. Our guide recommended somewhere for lunch. As time was of the essence again, we just went where he recommended. It was average fayre at best. The guide ate there, so maybe he got a freebie for taking us day trippers there. Fira is lovely, but again, too rushed. Then it was off back to the ferry terminal for our trip back to Rethymno. The ferry took an hour longer getting back. By the time we got back to our hotel it was around 9pm. Made it a very long day. Everything was just so rushed. I wouldn’t do it again.

          Beware
We booked this trip from Stalis. So wish we hadn't. Like our last report on the trips from Stalis we had 4 hours on the coach picking up other hotel guests and getting to the destination. We were not given information to say that you had to get off the boat at the beach into the water (sea) from a gang plank. Taking off your shoes (we had gone in decent footwear) and holding them in your one hand and possessions in the other then negotiating a steep gangplank is not the ideal thing when you are pensioners. We both had to be helped into the sea. The beach was covered in stones and rough under the feet. Then we got to the sandy bit and it was red hot. The only thing was to put your wet feet into your decent shoes to stop the pain of heat and shingle. The day already totally ruined by this time we found we had to cross the river to get to the sight seeing. Once again shoes off and gingerly walking on shingle carrying your belongings in your hands. A very unstable crossing. Please do not think this is a waste of money on this trip but it is not for pensioners without forewarning of obstacles and what is needed. If we had been told the first thing we would have taken is either flip flops/crocs/old shoes and of course a towel for drying your feet THREE times. Off the boat/on the boat/across the river. Then we were taken to Rethymno. However another great disappointment. When we arrived there was so little time and we never got to see the town. We had a bite to eat and had to rush it without finishing properly because we were out of time. There was no time left for anything. Then for some a very embarrassing ride home. Another long journey back with no toilet on the bus and no stop and a lady and a gentleman had to stop for the toilet on the side of the road with the rep holding a towel around the lady. It was awful for them and the people on the coach. To us a very poor value for money trip and just wish we had been given proper information before we booked. We do not complain lightly and with me doing 200 reviews on trip adviser it is the worst report I have ever had to write..If you are old/impaired/unsteady on your feet/then I do not recommend this trip. Santorini- Save your money!
The first thing to say is, I wouldn't do this again. Or visit Santorini in high season again. I booked the day trip to Santorini from Rethymno in Crete with visitcrete.com. The first issue was the seating on the ferry. The seats are in two's and you are allocated seat numbers on your tickets. We are a family of four, two adults and two kids, and yet we are seated 1,2,1. The ferry sailing time is approx 2hrs 40 mins. There is a decent cafe on board but I would recommend bringing your own entertainment of some kind. Once at Santorini, you all board coaches, the number of the coach you board, again, pre allocated on your ticket. There were at least 25 coaches waiting. They all set off as they fill up, all heading for the same place, Oia. Once at Oia, they all park up just below the village. Everyone in those 25+ coaches disembarks and follows a pathway up to the village like a trail of ants. The village is packed! Nearly every street is shoulder to shoulder, not helped by the contents of the three cruise ships in the bay. We only had about 1 hour and 30 minutes in Oia and were always aware that we had to be back at the coach for the designated time. We found ourselves trying to find the best places to take photographs amongst everyone else. There was no time to look around the little streets or enjoy the location. We found a place for a quick drink overlooking the caldera. One black coffee, one iced tea, two soft drinks and two ice creams, 50 GBP. Everything seemed to be twice the price of similar items on Crete. Of course, there was one family late back, delaying our departure by 15 mins and hence reducing our time in the next village, Fira. Again, in Fira, the coaches park just outside the village and everyone follows the person in front to the town. This village is a little larger so not quite so crowded. Only 1 hour and 45 minutes here before getting back on the coach for the ride back to the ferry port. The whole visit feels very rushed and not enjoyable. A total of 5 hours 20 mins on the ferry and 3 hours and 15 minutes on Santorini ( not including transfer time and waiting for latecomers to return ), at a cost of over 600GBP for the four of us. OK, so I can say I've been to Santorini, but it wasn't how I imagined it would be. I won't be returning.

The bus ride was comfortable, easy, and felt safe. Thomas was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. There was slight confusion about where to pick us up in the morning, but surprisingly the company called me, waited, and help facilitate a different pick up. We still arrived early before the crowds!

We took the KTEL bus from Chania. It was a very picturesque location. I would have liked it so much more if it wasn’t so crowded. I didn’t see much pink sand. It was not the pink beach as promoted. I know people who have gone there before and after the busses. They liked it so much more than I did. We walked up the road from the beach to have a sit down lunch at a restaurant. We watched cars decend to the beach one after another in clouds of road dust. All the plants on the road side were grey covered with dust so not a pleasant walk.

Beautiful tour, with indescribable landscapes, in addition to the stop at The cave of wisdom of God. I congratulate the driver, I'm sorry I don't remember the name, a VERY VERY skilled man behind the wheel which made me feel very safe as well as very friendly. I also congratulate the guide and teacher Nikos for all the explanations during the tour and attention during the trip. I will be back.

We did another tour with Platanos earlier in the week and both times, we have found the tour guide and organisation to be great. However, it feels like the timings were off for this tour. It started too late, so the beach was extremely busy when we got there - no sunbeds, not even a single spot free with some shade. I understand it’s not in the tour agency’s hands, but leaving earlier could help combat this. We were given 4 hours in Elafonisi, but because we could find no shade or sunbed, we found that we were uncomfortable almost immediately, and spent 3.5 hours sat by the road with towels over our heads so we did not burn. The beach is beautiful of course, but I think in summer, more could be done to make this trip comfortable. Unfortunately we couldn’t wait to get back to our hotel.

Booked my ticket with tour with Get your Guide and received a confirmation for my booking the day after with date and time of pick up, after 30 minutes past the pick up time the bus finally came and allowed two people from our hotel on and told us that we must be on a different bus after showing my tour confirmation from Get your Guide and the travel agency confirming our reservation. 30 minutes after that bus left I called the bus driver and asked if he was coming to our hotel to pick us up and he said that we were not on his list and I needed to contact Get your Guide for a refund. Horrible experience, I would not book with them again.

Avoid booing a tour with GetYourGuide or Platanos. They never sent us the pick up location. We spent hours chatting to Get Your Guide agent and trying to reach Platanos. Eventually, we woke up at 5:00 am, prepared everything and waited for a call about the pick up service, but nobody ever contacted us. And, no, the email did not go to the spam folder! Anyway, it seems that even the refund process will be difficult, if we ever get the money back.

The review is not so much about the beach itself but more about the poor service of the tour group, Platanostours. We were a family of 4 who did the day trip from Chania to Elafonisi via a Platanas Tours coach tour on 30 June 2019. The drive is great with some pretty hectic cliffs on a narrow but beautiful scenic road. The beach itself is beautiful and probably very pleasant in good weather. The water is beautifully clear just like the pictures. The amenities are average for such a world renowned beach.
Unfortunately when we arrived the wind was howling. Not a breeze as the guide told us, but a full- on gale force wind kicking up a sandstorm of note with terrible gusts.
It was completely unbearable with only about 10 people venturing into the water (including our 2 brave kids) but even they had to come out after 15 minutes as the wind and sand were affecting their eyes. Most people were looking for shelter somewhere (we were advised by the guy it the kiosk not to take a lounger under the thatch umbrella for safety) People were leaving as quickly as they arrived. Unfortunately we could not leave because our guide told us that the bus would be parked elsewhere and would be locked for the 4 hour duration. We spent half an hour on the beach and then spent the remaining 3 hours huddled in the shelter of the self-service café which quickly filled up with windblown, disgruntled people.
Now we fully understand that no-one can be blamed for weather conditions that make a beach completely unbearable and dangerous. However, it seemed logical to me that on arrival the guide should have suggested that given that the beach was blown out completely and no one could swim or relax on a sunbed, that we shorten the visit to maybe 2 hours. I don't think anyone in the bus would have objected.
Also, surely the guide should have enough experience to know the difference between a strong breeze and a gale, and then manage the situation accordingly. There were some elderly people who couldn't even return to the coach for 4 hours.
So a big thumbs down to Platanastours for not managing a situation accordingly and simply going through a routine which was terribly unpleasant.

Our driver was an elderly man (70+), who didn't speak any English and was constantly driving with one hand as he was on his phone all the time, so unsafe on the narrow cliff roads. The bus was even older than him, dirty and the air-conditioning was barely working. The organisation is terrible, it was a 3,5 hrs drive and we stopped for toilet after 3hrs, ridiculous. We eventually had a tour guide, but as it was too busy and they had two buses, she kept changing between the two buses, not ok at all.
Although the beach is really beautiful,it was not possible to enjoy a single moment of it as it's crowded,no available sun beds or umbrellas, not enough facilities and the water is cold and the wind is crazy strong.
Never wanted to return to my hotel so much before, absolutely bad travel agent, avoid them.
