About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- emmahY2350VI0 contributionsBird watching paradiseA stunning experience and the highlight of our holiday. You go out on a basic wooden boat with a guide. The guide was friendly, helpful (assisted me on and off the boat) and knowledgeable about the birds. We saw lots of Kingfishers, Coots, Great Crested Grebes, White and Grey Herons, Cormorant and the Dalmatian Pelican. We were offered wine which was a pleasant surprise. My only disappointment was how littered the lake and National Park are given the country has been so clean elsewhere. Definitely worth the long drive and early startWritten October 29, 2024
- kennymat19690 contributionsHighly recommend Kingfisher boats, such a memorable tourSuch a special day. Baki the captain guided us through the most beautiful of scenery, pointing out wildlife as we went. We were so lucky to see so much wildlife including pelicans, eagles and a kingfisher. Baki was so friendly and spoke amazing English, thanks also for the delicious Montenegro donuts, cheese and honey and local wines. The national park and lake Skadar are just stunning, beautiful scenery you won't forget.Written October 14, 2024
- Angela O0 contributionsPerfect afternoon in great companyWe did the 3hr boat tour for 30 euro each( included the 5 euro NP fee). It was amazing. Our boat waded through passages of Lilly fields and we saw birds and ducks.we had a 25 min stop at Kom monastery and had a swim in the lake.We were joined by a friendly English speaking guide and fellow passengers from around the globe who chatted over a few glasses of free wine and donuts and juice. It was an excellent afternoon .On exciting the boat in vizapir we had a walk around the little fishing village which has restaurants and a few souvenir stallsWritten September 4, 2024
- TamarraW0 contributionsFun trip!Excellent tour! I was pleasantly surprised that wine/water/juice was complimentary. Our guide was knowledgeable and super friendly. The water was warm and the scenery was outstanding. We even saw a few kingfishers.Written August 26, 2024
- Gerihrvth0 contributionsAmazing views, fun tour guide, lots of wineMe and my girlfriend went on the 3 hour tour starting from 4pm. We chose this time because we wanted to see the Sun setting on the lake and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. Amazing views, great atmosphere and lots of wine. Our guide Petr was informative, fun and had great energy. We saw lots of birds, the monastery, and we dipped in the lake too. The whole boat had an amazing time, we actually decided to go out for dinner after the tour almost all of us. The company is very professional and well organized. Literally the only downside of the tour that I can think of is that smoking on the boat is allowed which is kind of disappointing. Highly recommend the tour and perhaps the 3 hour option if you have the time, because there is just so much to see. Loved every minute of it!Written August 14, 2024
- M4583OEcarolineo0 contributionsAbsolute beauty and tranquilityAbsolutely beautiful. We did the 4 hour cruise, was a little worried it may be too long but it wasn’t. It was such a relaxed trip and perfect for the incredible surroundings. Two lovely swimming spots, a toilet on the boat, great captain, free unlimited drinks (soft and wine) and lovely do-noughts with local cheese, olives and honey. It really was a perfect day out. Amazing value for money and a unique and beautiful place.Written August 6, 2024
- Maartenstravels0 contributionsPeace and quiet at the lake…This tour starts at an hour most tourist are still waking up, so it is lovely peaceful and quiet. We were lucky to see some kingfishers and a pelican. The guide is timely, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend! For more reviews, check out the company “Kingfisher”; very positive and helpful reviews.Written August 3, 2024
- Koala4940 contributionsSunset tour highly recommendedThe view was amazing! We enjoyed captain Dragan and the guide who had a good sense of humour. The swimming moment in the warm water by sunset was a source of great fun and wonderful pictures. Beware when the guide says: ‘there’s a pelican! It could be a white plastic container…’ 😉Written July 25, 2024
- 79amandah0 contributionsLovely peaceful time in the LakeWe hired a triple kayak for a family session yesterday. We arrived early for the last session of the day and the friendly staff let us have 90 mins instead of the 60 we booked. Lovely calm experience rowing through the lake were we saw many unusual birds. Recommended and good value.Written July 21, 2024
- HBN250 contributionsLots of funThis was a last minute booking and we don’t regret anything! Easy to find, well sign posted and helpful crew. The guy running our tour was super patient, helpful and fun. We had a really great time and he shared some great knowledge. We didn’t bring snacks or a towel but I’d say if you get peckish you can bring a little snack (a group of people on our tour had a fun blown picnic!) Plenty of wine shared around as well as some local pastries with honey. Great 3hrs spent, the monastery was smaller than I was expecting and the island is RIDDLED with spiders but that’s part of the charm. Would recommend.Written June 21, 2024
- Frannie19630 contributionsFantastic day outFantastic day out on Lake Skadar on a private tour with Dragan our local guide. The desk staff were extremely helpful and brought the tour time forward to fall in line with our return travel arrangements, they even arranged a taxi to get us back to the railway station. Dragan was a super guide and was very attentive but not intrusive. He was happy to answer questions and slowed the boat when he saw us wanting to take pictures or if we spotted some wildlife. The lake and scenery were stunning. It was a great way to spend four hours. And the wine was good as well. Can't recommend this tour any more highly.Written June 15, 2024
- notenoughholidaysyet0 contributionsSuper 2 hour boat trip with KingfisherWe took a 2 hour boat trip which was really well organised. The host Alexander and two captains were great. Alexander was very informative, attentive and loved his job. We were lucky to see so many different species of birds. The views are stunning and the glass of wine onboard was a nice treat. We would highly recommendWritten May 14, 2024
- L2596ZEmattheww0 contributionsFantastic tour in a beautiful natural settingWe had been recommended several boat tours on Lake Skadar prior to going but Kingfisher came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The boat is comfortable with plenty of room (and shade) to enjoy the two hour tour on Lake Skadar. If you are interested in nature and wildlife the early morning trip is for you - two hours is plenty of time to see the highlights without it becoming too much. Coffee/ tea and a snack is provided during the tour and the guide helped us to spot plenty of species of bird and wader as well as talking to us about the history of the lake and its strategic importance. A very enjoyable experience and well worth signing up to with Kingfisher.Written May 12, 2024

- wishiwasonholiday680 contributionsExcellent boat tour on Lake SkadarWould highly recommend the boat trip and Kingfisher. Excellent information was provided before the visit in order to arrange a tour for someone who had hurt their knee. Milica was brilliant in choosing the best boat option for access. We booked a private tour for two people for 3-4 hours. There was flexibility to do 3 or 4 and the captain asked us what we wanted to do at the turnaround point for 3 hours. Balsa was an excellent skipper and provided just the right amount of information. The scenery was stunning. Never seen a snake swimming before, nor pelicans. Thank you for the loan of the binoculars. Shame we are going home tomorrow or we would have rebooked!Written April 10, 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed this serene tour of Skadar. The guide was friendly and funny, offering local knowledge but allowing us plenty of quiet time to relax and enjoy the nature. She was a pro Instagram photographer too, making sure everyone got gorgeous pictures as a souvenir. There were free drinks and we stopped in a quiet area of the lake to swim for 20 minutes. At this price you really can’t go wrong!

We arrived in Virpazar as a short day trip from Podgorica with no specific plan. As we explored the tiny village for a bit, we found Kingfisher's stand and inquired about the timetable for tours.
The girl at the stand gave us very clear info and we decided to follow her suggestion and booked the short boat ride that departed at 13.30.
At the agreed time, we followed the captains onto the traditional wooden boat (very cute) and we made ourselves comfortable.
Now, from reading opinions on similar activities I have seen a few lukewarm opinions mentioning that they expected loads of explanations about the lake, fauna, flora, monastery etc. If what you're looking for is a talking Wikipedia article while you listen, I don't think you'll be satisfied here.
However, if you're like me and enjoy real human conversations with local people and learn about their experiences, lifestyle, way of seeing life etc, you will definitely enjoy talking to the guide/captain. (I can't for the life of me remember his name so I apologise for that my friend!).
We had extensive chats about wine, sports, languages and balkan politics - and those are the things that I value in a any kind of tourism professional. I asked lots of questions and he was always happy to give me answers and personal anecdotes.
The trip itself was very chill and relaxing, great for a bit of introspection and grabbing some pics. We saw a few cool looking birds (I'm not an expert) and there was complementary local wine to sip on while enjoying the views (which again, I really value).
All in all, a very enjoyable experience great value for money. Absolutely recommended!

Dear Borjatone,
Thank you so much for this absolutely amazing review!
All the things you said and how you described us - that is the soul and heart of our company. We aren't indeed walking Wikipedias, just locals who want to make your journey on Lake Skadar more enjoyable and relaxing (and we are glad we succeeded) ;)
Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to write the review! We are happy we had you onboard with us, and we hope to have you again, sometime in the future!
Sending regards from sunny Virpazar,
Kingfisher team <3

Lovely tour, good taste of local wine, spoken in English. Be warned of parking if coming by car. Do not drive into the main area where the satellite navigation will take you as this is a parking tourist trap - someone very unofficial told us that if you have a boat trip reservation you can park there which would be €15 for the day. Park in Parking Virpazar instead which is only a 3 min walk from the site on the opposite road and is free.

Excellent relaxing tour to experience Lake Skadar and see it’s beauty. Our tour guide was very knowledgable on the different wildlife of the lake. Very nice local wines to try onboard - the nicest we had during our time in Montenegro.

Very nice boat ride on the lake we could see birds and the vegetation is beautiful. A small stop in the middle of the lake to swim and all this in a friendly atmosphere. We also had a small glass of wine! We all enjoyed it.

Lovely little trip out. The town of Virpazar doesn’t have much else to do so make sure you book an appropriate time. There wasn’t any benefit to me booking in advance in the end and all the tours seemed to be the same price on arrival anyway. Regardless, really nice hosts, lovely views and informative guides.

We did a private tour in the morning and the nature was just stunning! We saw a couple of pelicans and enjoyed the boat cruise. Our guide Alexander was really nice and he spoke really good German so we could understand everything easily. The skipper and Alexander had no problem to get on the boat with us at 6 in the morning and both were still in a good mood 😄. We got some free drinks and I would highly recommend a tour with King Fisher Boat cruises.

Tour was very well organized (meeting point, check-in, boarding) and stuff was very friendly. However, not much guidance. I was hoping for some information about fauna and flora in this beautiful scenery, but nothing was said. Basically tour guide wasn't speaking much, more interested in own mobile phone. We learned where the restaurant is, where the old prison was and how much fisherman earns. That's all during 2h tour.
This was very disappointing, as well the warm drinks served during the boat tour (warm wine or warm juice). Therefore overall experience I rate 2/5.

Pleasant captain, helpful, explains. One of the few boat tour organizers that doesn't jump in front of your car to offer you a boat trip. Ideal is a private tour at 8am or 9am with swimming, drinks and explanations. (Kids are 5 and 8 years old and loved it.)
