- 415emilyl0 contributionsA Hidden Gem!Such a great way to spend a morning in Tokyo. We felt like we discovered a hidden gem. The studio is located in a residential neighborhood (still very easy to get to) and it was nice to see another lesser known area in the city. I learned a lot in the class and it was the perfect amount of pre-prepped ingredients and hands-on cooking. We were a couple and I liked that we prepped the food that we ended up eating ourselves. The two instructors were very clear and supportive. The attention to hygiene and food safety was very high. The class size is 8 people. I also appreciated that we were seated throughout the class (we have been walking a lot!). You remove your shoes at the door and slippers are provided. We had the option to buy a glass of sake to enjoy with the end meal. We also bought the tamago pan from the instructor. All in all, I highly recommend.Written September 22, 2024
- 545anyat0 contributionsEasy and delicious, a must-do in Tokyo! The cooking class that we've had in Tokyo was fantastic! The three ladies that instructed us were incredibly knowledgeable and made the experience so much fun. They guided us through each step, ensuring we learned a lot while enjoying every moment. The dishes turned our delicious. Highly recommend!Written August 5, 2024
- Dranalle0 contributionsA fun calm class in the heart of Tokyo. This was a great cooking class for all skill levels. It gave us a number of great Japanese dishes to make. We also did the cooking sun class in Kyoto, and while there was some overlap there was significant variation from those overlapped dishes, so we were actually glad we did both classes. The variations on the dishes were fun to learn! And when I say overlap, there were 2 dishes out of 9 that were similar. The instructors here were again very easy going and super helpful. If you enjoy cooking and cooking classes as a means of engaging another culture, I highly recommend this one. I also recommend it to see a different more "residential" neighborhood in Tokyo.Written July 8, 2024
- aburton20 contributionsFun and Informative for all agesAMAZING! This was loved by our pre-teen, teen, and parents. The ladies running the class were so welcoming and warm. We learned a lot and loved trying all the food we made. The class takes place in a quiet neighborhood in what looks like an apartment building. The directions on how to get there included pictures and was very helpful. The class was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone when in Tokyo.Written July 5, 2024
- devraw20220 contributionsGreat cooking class! My 12 yr old daughter and I had so much fun in this cooking class! We got to learn to make so many different dishes, and enjoy eating them all at the end. And the women who taught the class spoke English really well, and were very nice! I have done several cooking classes in different countries, and this was the best one I've done so far!Written June 15, 2024
- RandallW580 contributionsAmazing cooking classAs others have said, this class and the food we made were amazing. The staff were very helpful and explained the recipes in detail to allow us to cook them there and replicate at home. A thoroughly enjoyable morning with the Wagyu class.Written May 19, 2024
- V5789JZmichaelk0 contributionsExcellent hands-on Japanese cooking classes in Shinjuku, TokyoThis was a marvelous, hands-on experience of Japanese cooking. We did the Wagyu course, which involved preparation of a multi-course meal with Wagyu beef at the centre of it (although all of the dishes were superb). The teachers were excellent, fully fluent in English, and the staff looked after all the prep, service, and clean up. The teaching area and equipment were well set up and the teaching staff and prep folks could not have been more pleasant and helpful. At the end of the class, we got to eat the meal that we had prepared and were astonished at what skilled Japanese cooks we had become! ;-) If you're looking for a good, hands-on introduction to Japanese cooking in several styles, I highly recommend Cooking Sun. Be aware: the school is a bit hard to find, on a side street in the Shinjuku area, so hold onto and pay close attention to the instructions they send you on how to find the school.Written May 14, 2024

- M284QDdavidh0 contributionsStunning introduction to Japanese cuisineWe arrived in Tokyo at 6am and went straight to the 9:30am cooking class. Bit difficult to find although it is in a small residential neighborhood near Shinjuku station (we actually thought we were entering someone’s apartment, but the room is custom designed for 8 people and the two very good English speaking cooking instructors. We made 8 dishes over the course of 3 hours and then had a great lunch. Very enjoyable and highly recommended!Written March 12, 2024

Learned to do different sushi in 3 hours. Despite having only me and my sister attending the class, we had fun and actually learned new things. The sensei, Aya. K is knowledgeable and she shares educational facts about certain food as well. She ensures that we had fun learning in a safe environment, the food was great! Just one of the best sushi i ever had especially the egg roll! The sensei is also good in English also patient with us when we took some time to do certain things. Thank you so much for the warm and different experience! Worth the money, highly recommended!

Fun afternoon learning to make sushi. We loved the small class environment, the chefs were both really really nice, professional and explained everything well, nice room, facilities, very well organised and nothing disappointed. Both chefs spoke excellent English. We would highly recommend this sushi making class to others. Oh and the sushi tasted so good too. A tip for others, make sure you eat before arriving as you don’t get to eat your lovely prepared food till the end of the class. Allow plenty of time for arrival. We used google maps to guide us and found the location ok.

We had the most wonderful time during our sushi making class at the Cooking Sun! Our instructors, Yuki and Hidemi, were very welcoming, knowledgeable, encouraging and patient! The class instruction included lots of background information about the history of the ingredients, etc, which definitely enhanced the experience! The process of making the sushi was very enjoyable and getting to eat our creations at the end was so wonderful. We would book another class at the Cooking Sun in a heartbeat and will definitely be recommending it to friends! Thank you so much Yuki and Hidemi!

My wife and I did a sushi making class and had a great time! There were three instructors and you could tell a lot of time, effort, and care has gone into how they run their classes. Everything little thing from the already prepared ingredients (chopped veggies, cooked rice) to the utensils ready to go, "mise en place" was a priority for our instructors. What I appreciated the most was that the class was a unique cultural exchange experience between not only us and our instructors, but the Indonesian family that was also taking the class with us too. It helped make the world feel a little more smaller and connected through the power of cooking and food, which was very special and a highlight of our stay in Tokyo.

Great class! It was cool learning how to prepare and make my own sushi. The time flew by and it was awesome eating it all at the end. If they offered something to buy at the end I would have purchased it. Like the bamboo sushi rolling mat

I did this activity with my daughter and it was realy fun. The three ladies who ran the course were all lovely and so patient and helpful for us beginners as we tried making sushi. They explained every part of the process and we followed their instructions. We ended up making some lovely sushi which all tasted delicious. This was a great way to spend an afternoon in Tokyo and I recommend it 100%.

the women were so helpful and fun. They explained everything really well. I had a brilliant time ! I made Vegetarian rolls because I don’t eat fish, and they were gorgeous. We made Californian rolls, they showed us a fish that I thought was a tree at first. It was a really enjoyable experience and I ate everything on my plate. Thank you

We arrived and were greeted warmly by the staff who got us situated, hands washed, aprons on and ready to have some fun. After learning about the ingredients it was time to get started. We first made dashi then tamagoyaki and got the abura started. We learned how to prepare the rice and were ready to roll! 3 different sushi rolls and 7 nigiri later we moved on to making the miso soup. After grating our own Wasabi, it was time to feast and laugh. Our diverse group and instructors all had a great afternoon and everyone left with a full belly. Highly recommend!

I am a foreign Canadian and want to visit Japan but am unable to without being registered with a tour. If I book can this tour be used to allow me entry into Japan by your organization providing some type of letter that I can present to Japanese Customs when entering Japan?

Is this a demonstration or do we get to actually prepare the sushi on are own.
We are 2 people who want to do the class. One of us is vegetarian so are there any vegetarian sushi being shown?
