          Disappointing
This is the first Viator excursion that we have had issues with. First, they didn’t give us directions of precise location to meet ahead of time. We had no idea it would take about 20 minutes to get to the meeting point. When we finally arrived, the driver said he was waiting for us since 7:40 which the time they gave us was 9 am start time. We stayed on the ship waiting for start time when supposedly we could have started earlier if we had known. Then we had booked a vehicle for 2 seniors, 4 adults, and 2 children and they had a regular sized minivan which was very uncomfortable. There were only 8 seat belts for 9 people.. Then when we arrived to the building where we were switching to a truck to go up the mountain (the main reason for booking this tour), they said the company hadn’t received their email about our booking (which we had done over a month ago) and so we weren’t going to be able to go up the mountain and if we would want to go to a beach instead. Being from Florida, we had no interest in spending the day at the beach. Finally after waiting 30 minutes, they worked something out so we were finally able to go up the mountain. The mountain was very cool but we had very little time because of the error with the start and end time. No time to go in the fort either. Our driver was very nice, but overall, not a good experience.

          Great Tour
We enjoyed our time with Diomi! He did not try to rush us when we were site seeing and moved along whenever we were not interested in seeing something.

          Great dirty fun
We arrived Puerto Plata on our ship and met our tour guide at the end of the pier. He took us to our transport and it took us about 30 minutes to get to the venue. He warned us we would get very dirty and took us to our buggies. We boarded our buggy and put on our helmets and strapped ourselves in. The dirt track was wet with lots of big puddles. We did have to wait for some slow drivers which spoilt it a little. But we did go at a good speed. We stopped for a small cup of coffee and a chance to buy some local souvenirs. We then drove further to the beach where we could swim if we wanted. We then rode back it started to rain which just made it more fun. We did get quite muddy but there is a place to get the worst off before heading back to our ship. I have read some reviews that have complained about the buggies condition and the venue. Yes they are a little rough but we are on an island in the Caribbean. These guys are just trying to make a living with what they have. They were friendly and polite. We had an amazing time and would do it again. Definitely recommend

          Blue lagoon & beaches
Lots of fun visiting 2 beaches & plantation. Ending at Blue Lagoon. Playa Grande was the nicest beach. Blue lagoon was pretty. They offered an additional opportunity for an extra $2 to drop from a zip line into water. The drop was high , 30 feet. My husband & friend did it. The friend was hurt by the life jacket. & the landing. I would not recommend it if your life jacket is not fitting properly. It slid up to his chin , bit hit lip causing an injury.. Also hurt his male parts. So the trip didn’t end well for him. Everything else was good. Lunch was a typical Dominican buffet.

A hot and confusing day in Dominican Republic
There was poor coordination with meeting us at Amber Cove Cruise Port. Once we were united with our guide, Diomi, there was much confusion over the timing of our truck transport up Mt. Isabel. We spent much time waiting. Diomi, our guide, is a nice gentleman. He is a good driver and escort rather than being a good or experienced guide. His explanations were simple and did not go beyond his range of comfort zone. He spent much of his time on his phone. Diomo did manage to arrange a rum tour at the last minute after we requested this rather than visit a cigar factory. He was very accommodating but as stated before not a great communicator nor tour guide.

          decent excursion
Mostly a good excursion. I would have liked to spend more time at Mt. Isabel and less time stopping at shops feeling pressured, even by the tour guide to buy stuff.

Fantastic Tour with an Amazing Guide!
I had an amazing city tour today with Fabio as our guide! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made the entire experience fun and engaging. He took us to all the must-see spots, sharing great insights into the country and history along the way. The highlight was heading up Mount Isabel de Torres, where we got stunning views and a real feel for the beauty of the area. Fabio’s passion for the city really came through, and he made sure everyone had a great time. Highly recommend this tour—especially with Fabio as your guide!

          Not worth it
Disappointing . It lasted 2 hours not 3. Drove through public streets. Made us wait for an hour before heading out. Would have done but for less expensive.

Great private tour - just what we wanted
We really enjoyed our tour. Diome was wonderful. He was friendly and helpful. He’s also friendly and obviously well-respected. He seemed to know everyone we met, even guides with other tours. We chose this particular tour because we wanted to go to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres by road and not sky gondola. We also wanted to see the fortress, the umbrella street, and Paseo de Doña Blanco. Diome led us through all of those and a few more places. I particularly liked how he took us to the amber jewelry makers. I understand that we probably over-paid, but I’m okay with it because I feel more connected to the purchase and feel like I’m supporting local artisans. Because this was a private tour, we were able to go at the speed we wanted. We spent more time at the amber shop and skipped the cigar factory. To make this 5-star, I would have liked better communications ahead of the tour. We received a message about our pickup location but not time. Our ticket was for 9:00. We planned to be at the pickup location by 8:30. At 7:30, the tour company called that our tour guide had arrived. We were able to leave the ship by 7:50, so it worked out. But we could have planned to be off the ship earlier.

Great tour for cruisers and others
Working with Anthonyinfotours was great. They were very responsive and provided the information we needed to meet the tour guide well ahead of time. The tour guide Diomi was friendly and provided interesting information about the different areas. He also was familiar with the timeline needed since we were in port off of a cruise ship. It was raining in the morning so we went to the different stops in the city first, hoping the cloud cover over the mountain would clear up later in the day. Unfortunately that did not happen and it rained on and off into the afternoon. Since the cable car was closed for repairs and renovations at the time we went, we still took the 4x4 truck up the mountain road even though there were periods of rain. We didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked at the top of the mountain, but that was only due to the weather we had that day. Diomi got us back to the cruise port terminal with plenty of time to spare

          Very disorganized
The tour was uncoordinated and disorganized, with no clear instructions on where and when the meet up was. Our ship arrived on time at 8AM and the reported departure time of the excursion was 9AM. We were assured multiple times that our tour guide was already at the location waiting for us and holding a sign to get our attention, despite walking around the entire area multiple times. After our third call with the company we learned we would be waiting on another ships arrival and we did not leave until closer to 10. The tour was overbooked; in a minivan with 8 guests and 1 driver, two people were forced to sit on each other’s laps. Our initial starting point was Isabel De Torres mountain but when we arrived, the tour guide informed us they were overbooked and we would have to come back later. The amber and chocolate factory were mostly just a sales pitch vs anything to really see and learn. Since we had lost so much time at the start, the ending of our tour was very rushed. Diome was our tour guide and we have no complaints. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, took pictures when asked. Umbrella street and pink street were nice to walk through and Isabel De Torres was our favorite part. There is a botanical garden there which is not part of the tour due to time constraints so please be aware when booking. I would not recommend this tour to others.

          RECOMMEND!
We chose this tour instead of one of those offered by our cruise line because we felt it covered more area and left out some of the “shopping trips” that were so often included in the cruise tours. We were not disappointed. I would definitely recommend it. It was a small group-just a minivan so he made sure that everyone was happy and got to spend the time they wanted to at each location. He was incredibly attentive to us older people as well as the younger ones. The only disadvantage is that you cannot meet this tour until you go outside the port gates and we were a little confused as to where to go. The locals kept directing us to other areas, but all you need to do is go to the exit/entrance to the port and he was there holding a sign for us. This was more economical and a better tour than any of the cruise tours!

Can't wait to go back again.
We did this day tour as part of our cruise stop. Fabio was our tour guide. Very friendly, polite, and accommodating. He has a wealth of local knowledge that I think we would miss if we used a cruise tour. I am very happy with our experience. There is so much more to see, so I will have to rebook this when going to DR again.

The waterfalls were stunning and so fun to slide/jump/climb down and swim in (I do wish they had been more upfront about over half of them being closed due to dry season or refunded part of the cost) Our driver Jason was great too!!

My husband and I do a lot of riding and camping with our own horses. I found this ride on Trip Advisor and booked it because our cruise ship did not offer horseback riding by itself. Our guide was Armando and he was a pleasure to ride with, I love that it was just my husband and I on the 3 hour ride. I have to say this was the best excursion of our week trip. The horses were very responsive'we walked, trotted and cantered, and Armando took lots of pictures for us. We stopped at this cute little tiki hut and I had the best Pina colada that I've ever had. Armando took off the saddle and we went swimming with one of the horses. It was such a fun relaxing afternoon, I would definitely ride again with Armando if we ever return.

Amazing is the perfect title for this excursion. Walking through the forest trail and exiting onto a scenic beach front while on horse back was spectacular. Then riding up and down the coast as the waves gently roll up the beach sand and under the horses feet was unforgettable. The guides were very helpful and aware of our groups individual needs and spoke understandable English which was a plus. Our group had three adults and two children, 14 and 10. The horses were well trained and had a great balance of being trail followers but willing enough to be turned, slowed or sped up on command. Three hours was just enough. We were tired but not exhausted. There is a 15-20 minute break at the middle point before returning to the starting point. Highly recommend this experience to anyone wondering if it is worth doing.

I decided to lookup something other than a ship excursion. I booked the horseback riding and went with Hanz (sorry if misspelled!) There was only one frustrating part so I’ll address that first. I had a hard time finding the driver. I went outside of port, past the solar panels, past the last white gate, and walked alllllll the way down the main road to the left. I had to turn on my cell service to locate the driver. I was in his personal car and it was just us. He didn’t speak English but was nice. He dropped me off to Hanz. I admit all of it did look sketchy and you do have to be smart in the DR. If I hadn’t booked through this reliable website and saw other great reviews I wouldn’t have done it. But I had an absolutely GREAT time on my trip! It was just myself and Hanz- no group. The best part was it wasn’t “follow the leader” style like most excursions. It is still totally fine if you’re a beginner but he let me ride naturally, go at my own pace and even do some racing. I’d say the entire excursion was about 3 hours with 1.5 hours on horseback. We started in the woods then spent time at the beach. Stopped about halfway for a 30min break or so where you could get drinks and eat. He took videos of me and photos and didn’t charge, so I added extra tip. We were vibing listening to some music on our phones and singing. Honestly I had a great time. Thanks so much!

Great experience, we booked the night before which can be a little nerve racking wondering if someone will contact you or show up in the morning. Right after booking we got a whatsapp with information of where to meet and what to wear and answered all our questions.
We were picked up right at the gates for the port and brought to the horses in under 20 min
We explained that we are experienced riders and would want horses that were more forward and they did not disappoint. Our 2 horses were great. They were forward and did not need encouragement to move thru the paces, the horses are well cared, not underweight and hoofs where recently shod and trimmed.
It was just my friend and I and 2 guides. We rode up thru small villages and beautiful vistas, and lots of shade.
It was a fun and enjoyable morning.

Timeline: 20 mins from pickup point to riding location. Little waiting before starting to ride. Ride included trail/road through woods before continuing on the beach. 20 minute break near the beach at picnic tables. Food and drink available ($). Return was reverse of first half. Total duration was about 3.5 hrs, pier entrance pickup to dropoff. Pier entrance is a lengthy distance from the boat (half mile, along pier then the myriad of shops).

Opinion: If you are not an experienced rider (I'm not) this would be a good tour for you. The horses are trained to be gentle and consistent. I was able to coax mine up to a trot a couple of times, which was fun!

Guide: Excellent. I am almost deaf, so when he wanted us to turn or stop, he always came up to me to be sure I understood. Not all guides are that considerate.

Very fun! I’d recommend! Anthony was very good at communicating, easy to reach out and keep in contact with. They are also very accommodating, we were on a cruise that had to depart early and Anthony worked with us. The beach was beautiful, horses friendly. Even had someone there to take pictures, that you can pay for at the end $50 usd.

We had a great time on this tour! We chose to go the beach route, so we started on a dirt road near Playa Dorado, rode through the shady forest and onto a stunning beach with clear water! The guides were very helpful and our group of 6 felt very safe and had a lot of fun! We took a break on one of the beaches to enjoy some drinks and did some shopping with the locals (not included in price). The horses seemed fairly well taken care of, and when I asked about their care and upkeep, the guide told me that they work 1 day (with a long break in the middle of the day) and take 2 days off to rest. They do look skinnier than horses in the US, but our animals are pumped full of grain and the horses here mainly eat grass and other organics.

A really nice and unique excursion! My husband and I each rode a horse and our 5 year old rode with one of the guides. And then you can take the house for a “swim” in the ocean once you get to the designated portion of the beach. It was our daughter’s first experience riding and she had a blast. The horses are gentle, very well behaved. Anthony who was our contact person was very attentive and made special arrangements for us since our cruise ship arrived in port slightly later than the rest of the group. Would do this excursion again.
PS: for a small fee, there is a person available to do photography (nice digital camera) for you while you ride the horses. Definitely worth it to avoid fussing with a camera the entire time.

Stunning trip. Great guides, beautiful horses. I did feel bad for the horses going uphill on a really tricky terrain in the heat. But the guides seem to take good care of them and I’m happy to support local. If you are heavy, consider skipping this. The horses worked extremely hard and are not very big by North American standards.

I can't tell you how much my wife and I enjoyed our time seeing the beach on horseback. The host was more than accommodating when I found out our cruise ship arrival date had changed and made sure that the person who was supposed to pick us up (Victor) found us amongst the crowd of about 100 people finding their excursion guides. I had a slight concern in my mind of horses and the immense heat of mid-day. As I approached the area of the horses, I noticed they were being greatly cared for by the workers and our horses had been gently sprayed with water which was retained by the coats for quite a while. A cooled down horse is a happy horse. If you do this excursion, ask for Victor to pick you up at your location. He was so very kind to us and we got to see many sites on the way. Dress in dry-fit clothing, the humidity and sun was quite extreme in the first of June. Again, we had a great time!
