What to expect
Meet your local guide at the cruise port in Philipsburg and climb aboard your comfortable van for a half-day exploration of St Maarten. Along the way, enjoy complimentary beer, soda and water, and listen to your guide detail the rich culture and history of this divided Caribbean Island. Visit Grand Case, an adorable village containing streets lined with colonial-style houses and shops. Stop at any of the fantastic restaurants in this food-centric town for lunch, or sidle up to a street vendor and purchase a Caribbean snack. Walk down to stunning Grand Case Beach to check out the sand and surf. Visit Lucas Bay, a less-visited beach on the Atlantic side of the ocean. This beach, the last French beach on the East side of the island, is a popular site for amateur divers. Continue to Marigot on the French side of this Caribbean island. Enjoy 45 minutes of free time to walk the charming streets of the city, grabbing a drink or a croissant at one of the cafes. Visit the outdoor market to experience the abundance of produce and spices the island offers. Stop at Maho Beach, famous for its location close to the flight path of aircraft taking off and landing at nearby Princess Juliana International Airport. Hang out on the beach while jumbo jets roar directly overhead.  When your 5-hour shore excursion is over, the tour guide will drop you off back at the cruise terminal in Philipsburg.  Worry-free Shore Excursion: We will ensure your timely return to the cruise port. In the unlikely event that your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to your next port. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See Viator's terms and conditions for full details.

a good day out and way cheaper than the cruise ship
Jan. 2020
good day out and tour of the island. the poor wee minibus was way too small for the amount of passengers tho and we felt every pothole due to suspension bottoming out . a wee while longer at Maho Beach would have been better.

Great Excursion
May 2019
We had a great time seeing the country side while riding four wheelers. Did have a flat on the one I was riding . Didn't take long form our leader to get it replaced and back on the road. The Beach was a great stop. Got to see a couple planes fly almost reachable it seemed. Had some refreshments an back on the road. Wonderful time.

You get what you pay for.

The tour of the island was just “okay.” The bus driver was cordial and informative, though not quite at the expert level. We had to wait in an un-air conditioned tent until the bus/van was ready.

The island (both Dutch and French side) was not very impressive. Lots of unrepaired hurricane damage from a couple of years ago. Maho beach is overrated, though watching planes land and take off from such a close distance is cool. The beach is very small and gets over crowded.

My personal take: unless you have cabin fever and must get off your cruise ship, May be better staying onboard and save some cash.

Our favorite excursion from our trip!

Duece was a dream! He was waiting for us when we got off the ship. He was entertaining and informative. The 5 hours flew by and I cannot say enough good things about this excursion. Both beach stops were beautiful!

Great tour of the whole island
Jun. 2019 • Couples
Lucius was our guide and was amazing. We got to see a lot of the island - both the Dutch side and the French side. Stopped at Orient Beach to swim. Had lunch on the French side. Stopped at Maho Beach for the airplanes. The van was air-conditioned and comfortable. Plenty of beer or punch to drink. A great deal for a good time.

Super informative and relaxing
Nel was our guide and we had a super informative tour through the island (both Dutch and French sides). He was so friendly and he’s super knowledgeable. He gave us plenty of time to see things and enjoy the local beaches and shops. He was very conscious of our time and made everything go pretty smooth. Totally recommend this company.

Two in one
Mar. 2019 • Couples
A small island in the Caribbean split into two.The southern part where the ships dock is Dutch and the northern prittier side is French. They say that a Dutch man and a French man both claimed the island so to resolve the issue they met in the middle and decided to walk and whatever territory they covered was theirs. The Dutch side had Houses of disrepute which were legalised and also Cannabis. The French side was cleaner and Cannabis was not allowed. We booked a taxi from the town centre and the lady driver was very informative and provided us with ice cold beers, water and juices. This was a nice gesture in the heat.We saw both the sides and personally I liked the French side.We sat on a beach and then had a snack in the restaurant and then left for Maho Beach which was packed and hardly had standing room. The attraction here was the planes land at the Airport just behind this beach and you can see them really low before they touch down.We saw atleast 5 planes some of which were fairly small but also a big Delta Airlines plane which flew over our heads. They have a board which displays the time of the planes landing and the companies. We saw some Iguanas just gathered in one place.I thoroughly enjoyed ths island would recommend people to do a sightseeing trip here. The taxis also charge you per person just like the prebooked excursions.

Great Tour - Laid Back and Informative
Mar. 2019 • Family
This was a tour we booked on our own (through Viator) prior to our Cruise. It was wonderful and for the time allotted the price was amazing! I would recommend to better advertise or include on your Viator receipt better instructions for where to find them - I had to ask 3 different reps in port "where" to go to find them. Basically, keep following the port to the gated area and just beyond the gates were two free-standing pop-up type white tents (unmarked). Go out the gates to the tents and there are a handful of tour companies that "meet" there including Twin Island. Twin Island Reps were wearing black pants & black polo shirts with "Twin Island" on them to help you!

Once we located the tent we waited another hour or so to actually get on the mini-bus. Our driver and guide was "Luscius" (spelling?). He was good!

He brought us all over the island, just as described. Orient beach was a longer stop than expected, we had an hour there and did not wear beach-wear. No place to sit so it made a long time waiting there, but we enjoyed the people watching there, activities and my daughter had her hair braided by Josie-Anne who was a hoot and wonderful to chat with and discover more about how they live and the island, etc. The other end of Orient beach is nude. A lot of Europeans on the beach as well (non-nude area). This didn't bother us one bit, however, it did entail a "conversation" I had to have with my kids who kept pointing out women not having thier tops on!! Again, this wasn't a big deal as that is culture, but had I known or realized ahead I would have had that whole discussion on the topic with them before hand vs them running up to me and talking about why....LOL!

We had a few stops for photo ops which were fine and appropriate times. I don't remember "where". Our driver did a good job of telling us about places and history, etc. however, the intercom system wasn't the best. I raelly wanted to hear him and learn about the island but it was difficult to hear him.

He also had a cooler of beverages -- I believe Sprite, Coke, bottled waters, Carib beer adn a jug of rum punch. When we started the rum punch jug was alerady about 3/4 empty, so it didn't take long for our bus load to finish that off. But, there was plenty of the other stuff to drink along the way.

Our last stop was Maho Beach (airplanes). The experience was awesome to see it, but the beach was incredibly crowded, loud and obnoxious - do not go there if you want to relax on the beach!!! Not our cup of tea, so we watched as about 4 airplanes landed, 1 took off, got our pictures and we went back to the bus and waited there. We just aren't good with large crowds, loud music, people banging into you, nowhere to sit, etc.

Overall a great tour for the $$! While we had many stops, the one other recommendation I'd like to make is to maybe allow a stop somehwer near some restaurants - I didn't feel any of our stops were long enough to grab a bite to eat.

But I would recommend this totally especially if you are on a budget! Can't go wrong for the price!!!
