    What to Expect
Make your way to the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center, located just a few minutes' drive from downtown Nassau. Your admission ticket is good for opening hours, between 9am and 5pm daily. The center was created by Jamaican horticulturist Hedley Edwards, who later brought the famous Caribbean flamingos from the southern Bahamas as a contrast to the abundant greenery.

Explore the 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of verdant plant life and tropical gardens at your own pace. Take a break on a limestone bench hidden in a secluded corner, cross a footbridge as a kingfisher wades below and snap photos of the informal gardens. Watch the Bahamian ducks and swans paddle around the pond as freshwater turtles sun themselves on the rocks. While walking the Gardens, friendly and informed staff will answer questions while you explore.

Light refreshments are available at the canteen, and there is a gift shop featuring garden- and nature-themed souvenirs.

Your ticket includes admission to the 'Flamingo Experience', occurring at 10:30am, 2pm and 4pm daily and featuring the Bahamas' National Bird, the Caribbean Flamingo.

We signed up to go to Ardastra as an excursion from a cruise we were on as a way to do something outside that the kids would enjoy. The center is a very unassuming and relaxing area with lots of vegetation. Most of the walkways...More

Before coming to town by our cruise we had looked up things to do in the Bahamas. I’m so glad we found this zoo! The zoo was not an excursion that was offered through Royal Caribbean. So we had to pull together our own itinerary,...More

This was a highly recommend stop on our vacation. This was extremely sad because the animals had no space. There was an osprey that was kept in an enclosure that did not allow it to fly and it just sat on the ground looking pitiful....More

We walked here one afternoon with the kids, spent a couple hours here. Small zoo with pretty gardens. It happen to be "Baby Gerber Day" had all kinds of freebies. ( Chocolates, juice, coffee, treats, and good bags ) We were quite impressed.

This was one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. First and foremost, I watched a worker kick a turtle (yes kick) off another turtle because they were mating. Nearly every exhibit I encountered had filthy water that the animals had to endure that I...More

The Botanical gardens are just down the road from Ardastra, but from what I could tell, there wasn't much to it. It looked more like an open area with paths and a few water features. I never saw an "entrance" or anywhere... More

I'd estimate that it's about 2 miles. You could walk it, but it was hot when we were there. We took a cab there and walked back with several stops for adventure along the way - drinks at Twin Brothers, the beach for a... More

It’s about 20 min walk maybe. It’s better to get a taxi there.
