About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- carol h0 contributionsFantastic tour of town market. What a delightful experience. Wendy was very knowledgeable and told us a little of history behind Mazatlán. She made sure we were comfortable and moving at our own pace. Never rushed.Written May 8, 2024
- ShiningMasamune0 contributionsIt's a lot of food, so come HUNGRY!We were in Mazatlán for 2 weeks, and in that time we did many tours and activities. Some were great, some were only okay. This one was absolutely the best. We did the "Night Eats" tour, during which we were transported to six different locations to try food that's only available after dark. Everything we tried, from the super popular taqueria to the corner stall making fresh churros, was insanely delicious. Our tour guide, Maaike, was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was a bit apprehensive about the price while booking, but now that we've done it, I actually think it's fantastic value. We got a great meal, and learned so much about the local food culture, but the real value is after the tour, we felt far more confident about going into the local shops and knowing what to order! Our only regret is that we wish we had done it earlier in our trip. Cannot recommend enough!Written April 28, 2024
- specialsavill0 contributionsCome with an appetite! Tasty food and drinks await!Maaike’s tour started with a delicious shrimp starter close to the docks, initiating our group of 5 to a street restaurant preparing our meal on site. She explained why seafood is best in the early hours, gave historical backgrounds to what we were experiencing, and provided so much local information! Living here, being willing to share, and providing diverse menu options, Flavour Teller has allowed us the opportunity to explore food in front of us that we would likely not have tried. Most tourists would walk into more conventional restaurants; instead we were eating like locals, having awesome food at every stop, while opening our eyes to venturing into new venues. Highly recommend!Written April 28, 2024
- 899lizm0 contributionsFlavor Teller Food Tours are a must if you are visiting Mazatlan! We had wonderful time with Flavor Teller food tours! We did the Flavors of Mexico tour with Maaike and it was such an incredible experience. This tour took us off the between path, away from the tourist areas and gave us the opportunity to try cuisine from all over Mexico. It was lovely chatting with the owners of these family owned restaurants and trying their incredible food. Maaike was a fantastic tour guide and told us about the history of Mazatlan in addition to information about the food we were eating. A food tour with Flavor Teller is an absolutely must do if you are visiting Mazatlan!Written April 17, 2024

- Fishlynnify0 contributionsWell-done tour!Wendy did a fabulous job leading this tour! The Mercado was so interesting and all the food stops were so good! It was a really perfect day weather-wise as well. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting Mazatlan. I definitely will go back to some of the stops where we ate.Written March 11, 2024
- JoseeLeg0 contributionsWonderful experience!WoW!!! We did the Tour with Wendy and lucky for us, we were the only ones that day so it made it very special. She's a great communicator and knows everything about her town. We met great people in the Mercado's stalls and tasted wonderful things. What a treat! We recommand this tour as soon as you get to Mazatlan so that you can discover all the jewels hidden in that place. Thank you so much for that wonderful tour!Written March 8, 2024
- 801DavidG8010 contributionsHave you ever wanted to try some of the local food but you were too afraid because you wouldn’t know what to order? We went to five different places near the southern end of the Malecon in Mazatlan and ate some excellent food at establishments we never would have even found without our tour guide. Maaike gave us a history lesson combined with a food tour that was entertaining and mouthwatering. A must do experience!Written March 4, 2024
- Yvette O0 contributionsMercado and moreWendy was a knowledgeable tour guide. She gave us a great tour of the Mercado and surrounding area. Although we had been to the Mercado numerous times, we were always uncertain about trying different foods there. Everything was delicious and so fun to experience. We enjoyed learning Mazatlán history and local customs.Written February 12, 2024
- ellenresnick0 contributionsA Big Thumbs Up for Seafood Secrets TourWe took the Seafood Secrets Tour and it was both delicious and educational. - 880sumir0 contributionsThe MORE Tour!Wendy was our guide, and my friend and I had such fun sharing the discoveries of this wonderfully welcoming city. While the ostensible star of the tour was the Mercado, we got so much MORE. Wendy shared with us her love of her city and many delicious tidbits of information on the history of Mazatlan. The Mercado stops were fun and full of her personal anecdotes. Best of all, bring your appetites. This is a taste extravaganza!Written January 30, 2024

- Guemesnewbie0 contributionsSo nice that I'll do it twice!I've been coming to Mazatlan for more than 20 years yet I still leaned a lot. Mika and Eduardo were knowledgable and friendly. This tour visited small, family owned restaurants with very tasty food. It covered a lot of ground. Partly in an Arriga and partly on.foot. I am returning for another tour next week!Written January 20, 2024

Maaike is an awesome host. She has obviously developed an amazing rapport with the local street vendors and local establishments. I recommend this tour early in any holiday to Mazatlan to give you an overview and an idea of places to visit and explore in more detail. Highlight of the tour for me was Tres Islas Micro Brewery. My idea of dessert.

We would highly recommend this tour. You visit a WIDE variety of places for some tasty treats. We were recently on a tour with another company where 7 stops consisted of 5 different tacos, a tamale, and a fruit bar. This tour covered a fantastic variety of things to eat and drink. The amount of food isn't sickening (like the other tour) but you will not be hungry at the end. We even visited a craft brewery in Mexico. Who knew? Maaike has a great rapport with the vendors, is very informative as well. The tour is fun and casual. The open-air transportation added to the adventure and allowed us to cover more ground as well. You can't go wrong with this tour.

Hi foodie traveler! It was a pleasure to welcome you on the Barrio Bites tour to show you the hidden culinary gems of Mazatlan . Thank you for pointing out that at the Flavor Teller tours thefood stops are paced in such a way you will leave satisfied but not overly full. The local Auriga taxi is the perfect way to move from location to location and exploring the working-class neighborhoods of Mazatlan. Hopefully we will meet again in the future!

If you like food, history and people, this is the tour for you!! We first met Maaike, your host, when she was working as a culinary host for Salsa Y Salsa. She has a dynamic personality and is truly a people person! Maakie loves sharing her city with people and the love shows! We were a group of six family members traveling together. As you know it is impossible to get six family members to agree on ANYTHING! But we all agreed our tour with Maaike was the highlight of our trip!
You travel to each location via Aurigas trucks which was helpful as one in our party has a bad back and walking distances can be challenging!
Maaike took us to seven locations (yes, you are full when you are done!) Each location was thoughtfully chosen to show a different and unique part of the City culture. All stops were very different but ALL WERE DELICIOUS!
In Mazatlan, if you like food and want to get out of the tourist zone and experience real food and real life (and you should!) You must take a tour with Maaike! (We are planning on attending all the tours she offers on our return!
We highly recommend the Flavor Teller!

Hi Cris! Thank you for the six Thumbs-up rating from you and your family. It was a fun surprise to meet again after many years. I was happy to see you have kept up the foodie spirit. The Auriga red taxi truck is the perfect way to drive from food stop to food stop. You get to see some of the lesser visible areas of town where locals get their breakfast bites. Thank you for mentioning that there is plenty of food on the tour, so bringing an appetite is always a good idea. I can't wait to show you more on your next trip to Mazatlan.

We choose the Barrio Bites tour which was at night. We met at Machado Square and then proceeded to visit 6 different food stands or restaurants. Maaike the owner of Flavor Teller tour is very engaging and knowledgeable. It's a great way to learn and see the city and hit the local haunts that all the residents go to. Highly recommend

Hi Joe! Thank you for sharing your experience of the Mazatlan Night Eats tour. The street food you can find after sunset is totally different than during the day and I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed every bite. Keep up your wonderful smiles and enthusiasm!

My wife and I have been going to Mazatlan since 2005, and this is the first food tour we've taken, despite loving food tours (we've been on numerous ones in several cities on 3 continents). Maaika started her tour about 5 years ago, and this was the first we knew about it-- our resort concierge recommended it. It was a real eye opening experience, and the highlight of our trip. We visited sites where locals eat, drink, and shop for food. I can truthfully say, but with one exception (the craft brewery), I could walk by these places one hundred times and never stop in, let alone eat anything served there. And I would have missed out on a world of taste that I'd never experienced in all my years of going to Mazatlan. We learned about the history of Mazatlan, Sinaloan style cooking, and the people and culture of the city. When we return to Mazatlan, I'll book the evening tour, and perhaps do the morning tour again as well. Regardless, I'll go back to Maaika's favorite spots.

Hi James! Thank you for your wonderful feedback as a seasoned food tour fan. It is true that Mazatlan harbors many flavors that aren't in plain sight. But I hope you will revisit these welcoming family businesses for their great food and amazing hospitality. I look forward to welcoming you on another Flavor Teller tour soon.

We had a blast and learned a lot on the Barrio Bites tour! This was our first time in Mazatlan, and this tour was a great way to discover the city, and to learn about and enjoy its culinary history and culture. Eduardo took us to several "off the beaten path" establishments and shared a wealth of information at each stop. There was plenty of variety to please all tastes. We really had a great time and will recommend this tour to our friends visiting Mazatlan. Thank you Eduardo!

As I read the other reviews, I totally agree with them. Six of us took Barrio Bites tour. It was great, Maaike connects with the group from the start. Off we went to some of the most out of the way stops, to be served some of the best bites I have ever had here. I have been coming here for many years and finding Maaike and this tour was Very Bueno! It was fun, informative, and we have already been back to one restaurant for some of the best Posole we have ever had. She gets Six votes from our group.

We loved this tour through Mazatlan! To start, Maaike was terrific in opening up another tour for us since the 10:00 tour was sold out on the day we were in port. Eduardo was our guide and he was very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging as he took us around PV. We were able to try several different dishes we wouldn't normally have tried and the tour was much more than your standard taco tasting tour. Eduardo filled us in on the history of the city and he didn't try to gloss over the more unsavory aspects. We didn't walk away hungry and will look to try other tours from the Flavor Teller the next time we are in town.

We did the Barrio Bites tour during our stop in Mazatlan on Holland America's Koningsdam during the last week of March. Eduardo took us to seven different places to experience authentic street food and restaurant-quality eats that I'd definitely return to in the future. We learned more about living and working in the city than any other tour I've been on. I highly recommend this tour - you're going to see, eat, drink, and experience things you'd never find on your own. Our guide Eduardo was great!

It is a unique experience in Mazatlan that allows you to know a less explored side of the city. I really enjoyed the tour visiting new places for me in my 15 years living here. Thank you Maaike!
