- 39dukea0 contributionsExceptional Service from Eco Explorer and Vallarta UnderseaWendy helped schedule three different trips for a large group (whale watching, snorkeling, and scuba diving), and the entire process was effortless. Thanks, Wendy! The whale watching trip was fabulous! We saw numerous whales breaching high in the water and took some amazing pictures. The guides were incredibly knowledgable and environmentally conscious. The next day, we visited the private beach at Marietas Islands, which was other-worldly amazing! The visibility wasn't great for the snorkel trip, but that's nothing the tour company can control. Even so, the guides were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly! A highlight of the trip was seeing whales and dolphins near the boat after the snorkeling trip. Thanks for an awesome experience! The private scuba diving trip was also amazing! Dive Master Héctor was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and supportive. We loved how he took photos during our visit to the hidden beach so we could enjoy ourselves, and he was incredibly supportive during both dives. Thank you! We definitely recommend Eco Explorer and Vallarta Undersea for your Puerto Vallarta boat adventures!Written January 9, 2025

Muy mal instructor y servicio de Ever Nadie contesta nada después de pagar Terrible instructor he was very impatient with the whole group and was in a rush throughout. Part of the package was to have some time in Los Arcos to snorkel and explore around. The visibility was not the best so the instructor Ever said if we get back on he will take us to a better spot to continue exploring and perhaps see more whales and perhaps turtles but he just took us back. I understand that it’s not on anyone’s control to see or not the wildlife come out however he shouldn’t have lied to get them back on and straight back to the marina. He was not an instructor I recommend.Written January 3, 2025
- L9947PWmariahm0 contributionsSpectacular swimCould not recommend this excursion more! Carlos and Emilio were phenomenal guides. Carlos helped us spot whales, dolphins, iguanas and the blue footed booby’s! It took about a hour to get to the islands by boat but it was beautiful and scenic. Snorkeling was easy and delightful. And the swim through the cave was refreshing and honestly pretty easy. We were four gals in our thirties who don’t swim often and it wasn’t a big problem. Go go go!Written January 1, 2025
- Nikki871110 contributionsClose Up Experience with Humpback WhalesOur family went on the 3 hour whale watching tour this morning. The guide, Carlos, was great and very knowledgeable about whales. It took a while to locate some but he never gave up and we were rewarded with an amazing experience watching a group of humpback whales close up. The boats are small, which made for a more personal experience and allowed us to maneuver more quickly than larger boats. It was a beautiful morning in Banderas Bay and an experience we will never forget!Written December 30, 2024
- nityar23870 contributionsA Cautionary Tale: Unsafe Diving Experience with Eco Explorer in VallartaI recently had a deeply disappointing and concerning experience with Eco Explorer in Vallarta. The dive conditions were far from ideal, with poor visibility that made the adventure less enjoyable. However, the real issue was the equipment provided by the dive center. The weight belt they gave us was alarmingly loose and unreliable. My sister's weight belt slipped off at a depth of 50 feet, forcing her to ascend without a proper safety stop—a terrifying ordeal for any diver. The dive was cut short for everyone, lasting only 15 minutes, due to the equipment failure. To add insult to injury, we were charged an additional $100 for the malfunctioning weight belt, which was entirely their responsibility. This experience was not only disappointing but also dangerous. I urge fellow divers to reconsider choosing Eco Explorer, as their negligence could put your safety at risk. Your life is too valuable to trust to a dive center that doesn't prioritize proper equipment and diver safety.Written December 30, 2024
- CHN-scuba-diver0 contributionsSafety ignored at Eco Explorer! Horrible equipmentDive equipment not upto standard! Hi, I'm a PADI instructor and I went for a dive here. Advantage of the centre-eqipment is included in the price. So my sister and I booked a dive in December 2024. Disadvantage: Safety! Their equipment is not upto code. They offered us cheap quality weight belts that kept falling off. On the surface, I informed the instructor that my weight belt isn't good. He fitted it again and said it was OK. As soon as I went down, out of nowhere, I lost my weight belt and shot up to the surface! I managed the best way I knew.. Now, I know these things happen at dives, but what isn't right is to give a broken belt and then ask your customers to pay $100 USD for it! Do not book with these guys unless you have your own equipment. My regulator was also leaking and the instructor asked me to manage saying it would be OK.. does that mean I pay for a new regulator if it gives up for me mid dive?? If you have booked with them, go at your own risk. And remember, you are liable for all while they are responsible for nothing! Not even their own equipment!Written December 30, 2024

Knowing that conditions may be a bit more challenging in January, Lisandro (guide) and Jesus (Captain) provided an excellent trip, spotting whales and dolphins on the way to the Marietas. We were even able to get some snorkeling in after visiting the hidden beach. I appreciated Lisandro for his scientific knowledge that was the opposite of the cheesy guide approach. I recommend a simple hydro-thermal layer to enjoy the water more comfortably.
Extra credit - They waited for us, even though we were half an hour late due to being misled by well-meaning vendors at the marina. Make sure you know their location ahead of time and don't count on finding it by walking along the marina.

We (two friends female friends in our 30s) enjoyed the tour. It starts off at their office in the marina. You check in, pay the extra fees, and get your flippers. There is an opportunity for a bathroom stop in the office before departure. Once you’re geared up, you head down to the boat. Short walk from the office. I like the size of the tour… not too many people. Our group was 10 in total plus our guide and the boat driver. The driver was experienced and he knows how to navigate the boat to avoid the biggest waves. Note, it is a smaller boat so if you get seasick, you should take some medicine. We had a beautiful calm sea day, so the waves weren’t bad. We were so lucky to see a ton of humpback whales. They were gracious and stopped the boat for some spectating and pictures. It was a surprising highlight of the trip. Then, we boated on to the Hidden Beach. It’s a bit fast paced but I guess it’s because they limit how many people and how long people can be on the hidden beach. My friend brought a waterproof case for the phone which I recommend so you can take pictures. After the Hidden Beach we relocated to a nearby location for snorkeling. It was great. Tons of fish! There are some bleaching coral problems, but it appears they are making restoration efforts on the reef. Everyone else on the tour was pleasant and chill. Water was available and necessary. You get a sandwich before the boat ride back but it isn’t much, so make sure to eat a good breakfast. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour from beginning to end. We are staying at the Hard Rock Vallarta Resort and it was easy to catch a cab back after the tour concluded.

I recommend this tour for everyone wanting to get a personal genuine experience and a good education of the eco diversity of the area. Captain Torres was very skillful and a top notch navigator. Luis Contreras was very knowledgeable and a great educator and entertainer on the tour. Erik had all of the crew and guests attended to and helped with the less strong swimmers. I’d do this tour over and over! Bueno!!

This was the only activity we did in puerto Vallarta that we disliked. The boat is NOT made to travel into the open ocean. It is a metal bottom, small very uncomfortable boat. All 6 people in our group had very sore backs after the trip. The trip is closer to 1.5 hours and our guide did not warn us that we’d have poor weather even though he knew that morning.
The hidden island is very cool but not super worth it in my opinion. You are only allowed 30 minutes for the island and most of that is spent struggling through the currents in the tunnel to access the beach. Don't get me wrong, it is a really cool experience but did not warrant the day of subpar activities to get it.
The snorkeling was nothing super cool, a medium amount of fish but not a ton of biodiversity or colors to look at. The guide was also very controlling making sure we kept out life jackets on the whole time (even while snorkeling) and was not allowed to dive any deeper to see the fish closer.
All in all, I'd suggest going to see Las Marietas and the hidden beach but find somewhere with a larger boat to brace the open ocean.

I had a hard time figuring out which yours guaranteed entry onto the Hidden Beach as well as the explanation of all these additional fees that some tours seemed to charge but others didn’t. Finally called Eco Explorer and spoke with Wendy who answered all my questions! She was awesome! Was able to book the tour the next morning! Guaranteed entry onto Hidden Beach for all of us on the tour.
There were only 6 of us and it was fantastic! We ran into some larger groups and I’m so glad we weren’t on one of those. Lisandro was our guide and was very knowledgeable about the animals as well as the culture around Puerto Vallarta area. He and the captain (I forget his name) were constantly on the lookout for wildlife during our hour boat ride to and from the islands. We got to see some sea turtles, dolphins, and even a whale (which was a little unusual for this time of year)! We checked in at Hidden Beach and were given helmets for our entry, and our 30 minute countdown began. They limit the number of people allowed on the island per day as well as the length of time groups can spend there. I wondered if the time would be adequate. We had a bit of time to explore but better, Lisandro took us to the perfect sports for some photos (1 area was more hidden and we were the only group that ventured there and it was incredible!!!) After Hidden Beach, we went to an area by the Long Island of the Marietas Islands where we went snorkeling for about 30 minutes. Then sandwiches and the hour boat ride back! Such a wonderful day and so glad we did it!!! Highly recommend!!!

My brother and I had a fantastic time on this tour! The hidden beach was such a cool spot to be able to visit, and the snorkeling around after that great as well. I was worried because the water was pretty cloudy, but there was still a lot of colorful fish and coral to see, and we also spent a lot of time swimming around looking at the different kinds of birds, and exploring some small caves. As a bonus, a pod of humpback whales was passing by so we floated and watched them jumping and singing. Our guide, Luis, was friendly, knowledgeable about the islands and the wildlife, and super helpful with anything we needed. This was a great excursion - well worth the price, and I would definitely do it again next time.

This was a fabulous tour! We were 2 of only 5 tourists on the boat plus our guide (Alex) and our pilot (Victor) - both were great. The drive out to hidden beach is a bit long (about 1 hour) but the scenery is beautiful so who cares!? We visited PV outside of whale season so we weren't expecting to see any whales but we saw several of them breaching far off in the distance. We couldn't stop though because each boat has an appointment/time slot (30 minutes) at hidden beach. Which is nice, because then the beach itself isn't crowded. The swim into hidden beach is not as difficult as other reviewers say. The tide wasn't very low so we didn't have much clearance through the tunnel and it was fine. They make you wear both a life vest and a helmet so it's no big deal. The let you take off your vest and helmet once you get to the beach where you'll have about 20 minutes to explore and take photos (this is enough, the beach is very tiny). The beach itself is beautiful and so cool! After that, you will go back to the boat for your snorkels and fins. We only snorkeled about 10 minutes before we headed back to the boat for lunch (simple yet delicious sandwich and water) and to relax in the sun. After snorkeling, they drove us around the perimeter of the Marietas which are also beautiful. On the way home, we saw only one dolphin but TONS of whales! First, we came upon a mom and her calf. The calf was playing (breaching) all over and the mom was slapping her tail and spouting. Next, we came upon 8 or so adult whales! All coming up out of the water, spouting and flashing their tails. It was amazing!! They were literally swimming under our boat. They were so close, they seemed as big as a school bus - which they probably were! Overall, it was an awesome tour. Alex and Victor spent extra time so we could watch and enjoy the whales. The tour was supposed to end at 12:30 but we didn't get back until 3:00! (Note: we departed a bit later than the designated start time that morning). Highly recommend this tour. My husband and I want to bring our daughters back to PV and this tour is on our list! 5 stars!

Carlos and Emirio gave us a very nice introduction of Banderas Bay, it’s ecology and wildlife including close encounters of dolphins from 2 species on our way to the Hidden Beach and numerous birdlife like blue-footed boobies. Overall, it’s a unique experience to see its geology which you had to swim from the boat and through a tunnel cave and not so calm waters to reach the beach. For this reason, its not for everyone since you typically dock on the beach. All guests of the island also had to observe only 30 minutes so you can’t really stay and relax on the beach but just enough to appreciate its natural beauty - I assume to protect it being a UNESCO biosphere zone. The snorkeling we had was the highlight of the trip and spent a long time discovering the reefs and underwater caves around that drops into the ocean floor, with plenty of large and small colorful reef fish and live fan corals. We were also glad the water was warm and comfortable at this time of the year. I recommend this excursion if you like to see unique oceanic geologies, reef snorkeling off island walls and observing wildlife, something special to do while in PV.

Fantastic! Do not hesitate! This was my second tour with eco-explorer and it was just as good as the second. Our guide Lisandro And our captain Jesus were the best!!!! They slowed down on the way out to the islands to show us a big group of dolphins, and still made sure we got to the island in time To be one of the lucky few to visit the hidden beach. After that, Lisandro let us around some great snorkeling sites. As we had at home we saw a humpback whale. I also want to mention that Lisandro and Jesus made sure to pick up a floating Styrofoam container in the sea that we passed that they saw a manta ray possibly trapped in. Lisandro also had an injury on his hand from saving a manta ray from an illegal fishing line the day before. This company truly cares about what they do and the ecology and that really add something to the experience. Just a really wonderful and relaxing trip and our fellow travelers were really great and interesting people too! Wendy at the base Also deserves a shout out for giving great customer service!

If you can swim 100 meters through a cave tunnel, the reward will get you to Hidden Beach with only a few other adventurous souls (with the help of our great guide, Luis). We only had 30 minutes to swim in, explore the beach, then swim out. It isn’t much time but we were just happy to be granted access, only 116 people are allowed to visit per day (closed on Monday and Tuesday). Entry is not guaranteed. Luis was knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and the ecosystem. An added bonus, he is also a photographer and took photos of our family that were excellent and so much better than what we got with our phone camera through a dry bag. Captain Nano steered us toward several whale and dolphin sightings, also a nice bonus. What turned out to be a wonderful snorkel trip teeming with fish and blue footed boobies became an experience of a lifetime.

Do we need to know swimming to visit this island? Because we don't know swimming
Written June 16, 2022
You will be wearing a life jacket but the currents getting in and out are very strong. I would not try it if you are not familiar with swimming. If the tide is high you have to swim quickly so that your head does not hit the top of the arch when waves come in.

How long is the excursion? What time are you usually back from it? I’m worried I might not make it in time for my later activity after this one.
Written March 15, 2022
The excursion was scheduled to be 3 hours with a full half our inside at the beach. Everyone in our group really enjoyed the snorkeling and site seeing so collectively we decided to stay longer. We were out for about 5 hours if memory serves me right but no one expressed an urgency to get back.
Written March 16, 2022
how bumpy is the water at the begining of March? how long is the ride to the island?
Written February 10, 2022
It was about an hour to get to the island. I went in December and the water was calm. It was high tide when we swam in so you had to time your swim with the surge to not hit your head on the roof of the entrance but it was fairly easy to do. One guy in our group was a very weak swimmer and the guide helped him in. The rest of us swam in without any problem.
We snorkelled outside of the beach after visiting inside where the hidden beach was located. That was almost as fun as swimming at the hidden beach.
