Victor and Fatimah were my wait staff. Pleasant, friendly, efficient. Other staff were there, and all were same as Victor and Fatimah. Sitting outside, you can imagine that there would naturally be bugs...Metate has a simple and effective way to keep flying bugs away from your food and drink, I was impressed. After a few days of just so-so food at our all-inclusive hotel this menu was a dream! Each dish was unique, jam packed with tradition and local flair, and, most importantly, delicious! Our server Eric was also a highlight. He was so knowledgeable, provided great recommendations and made the whole experience fantastic. We got the blue corn tamale and the grilled octopus for our entrees. For dessert we got the cornbread (so amazing!) and the beetroot gelato (so fresh!) and switching back and forth between bites was perfection. Great ambiance, lighting and art out on the patio. Just a very, very cool spot. The kind of place you always want to go when you're traveling - the one that you will also recommend to YOUR friends.Written November 26, 2023

The servers — ours was Eric —are also wonderful and attentive. You can taste the wood-fired grill in all the dishes. Amazing is what I'd call this. Great food. Good times. Here's the breakdown:
You go to a restaurant that you can basically only eat at if you have reservations because it's that good. You are welcomed by your chef, we had Suhad. She's so delightful, fun, and great! Sit at 5pm with a welcome drink and immediately you walk the garden and learn about all the things they cook with. To me, that educational piece, was the best!
Then you go and start making the best cocktail of the restaurant and then you start cooking. Each time is different food from what I hear.
Su was amazing and even funny with her jokes.
The tour did last until 930pm though so I'd recommend you schedule extra time for your visit in case it runs over the 5-8 timeframe.
I've been to Cabo four times and I wish I would've done this earlier. It is a must while visiting Cabo!

My family did this cooking class, including significant others, and love it! The hostess was very sweet and knowledgeable and spoke great English. We took a tour of the grounds first which are stunning and impressive as they have created their own farm to table experience including growing their own ingredients and a chicken that lays eggs in a vintage truck. Beyond that the food and drinks were delicious and it's always fun to learn a bit about the process in the meantime. If you're in a larger group everyone takes turns participating in different courses. The instructor walks you through everything and more importantly makes it fun. If you like a little dinner entertainment and appreciate learning local cooking techniques, this is a fun experience and considering it includes a meal, the price is great. Not to mention it can be a refreshingly different Cabo experience besides the standard downtown restaurants and bars, but bonus points for it being close to downtown should you want to partake in that afterwards :)

I was the only one attending the class. Upon entering, my temperature was taken, and I was immediately served the house drink by Ivan who also showed me around the garden. The bartender was excellent showing how to mix a drink. Oscar the chef (who did not speak English) was friendly and gave detailed instructions as Ivan translated. Water is always available for hand washing. There was, however, an abundance of flies. Ivan was very attentive and tried his best to alleviate the problem by placing fans in the area and was very apologetic. It is management’s responsibility to prepare for this in advance, not Ivan’s. Lastly, the food was good but the main dish was just a pork shank on a plate - no sides (Chicharrón is not an appropriate side). Offering coffee with dessert would have been a nice touch. Oscar and Ivan are the best!

I was really excited about this class but unfortunately left disappointed in the experience. This is a restaurant that talks to you about food, NOT a cooking class. I have taken many cooking classes and this is the worst yet. You hardly actually cook anything (the majority of the items are cooked in the kitchen and served to you at the end). The food they give you is very delicious though! And they have an incredible amount of down time. It felt completely wasteful. In fact, it took over an hour and a half longer than advertised which cut into the minimal time available for other port experiences. Despite them allowing children for a hefty fee, nothing about the experience caters to children. Additionally, if you do not come in a pair, they will pair you up with a stranger to share from plates of food. Every other cooking class I have done, you completely prepare your own food and only your own food. Here, you prepare as a very large group and everyone eats each others food which is completely unsanitary. Not to mention, another guest was paired up with a woman with large herpes that she kept touching and they had to share food from the same plate. The same woman was touching food later served to others. It is never acceptable to share food with a stranger, especially not on a pricey excursion. Food should be individually plated and prepared every time. At the end they serve the most delicious flan, but it was one small piece again to be shared between two guests. I really wanted to enjoy this but I cannot recommend at all. This was my least favorite excursion/experience while traveling and I have traveled A LOT.

This was an absolutely awesome experience! Even if you don’t know how/like to cook, you will have a good time and even better time eating the food you & the restaurant prepared!!! So delicious : ) the evening started with a welcome drink and tour; then we prepared our own mezcal mule (tasty). Then the cooking began with a fresh catch of the day ceviche, followed by a pork Gordita and a pressed beef taco (you make the tortilla - super easy). We enjoyed the restaurant prepared pork shank & baby chicken as the main course and finished off with a sautéed plantain covered in almonds garnished with cojita cheese. You will not leave hungry or thirsty. Highly recommend!!!

We had a wonder time in our cooking/dinner experience. Su was so friendly, kind and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and we loved the quirky ambience of this outdoor restaurant and garden. I would highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a unique experience and a delicious meal.

My wife and I must have drove by the sign for this place 10 times and never stopped, not realizing this restaurant existed. We are so happy she booked the cooking class. Fabulous Experience. That starts with Su the chef….she was very knowledgeable, Witty , and made the experience so much fun. The food was outstanding! Then the location…Metate is a lovely setting. When the sun goes down and lights come on…..live music in the background, sitting in the stars without the roof above. Highly recommend this location for a long casual evening out. Don’t be in a rush.

Booked a cooking class here and the whole experience was a vibe! The chef was amazing and thorough in his explanation of the dishes. To start they gave us a welcome drink called the wildflower which was so tasty, then we took a walk around their ground and got some beautiful pictures. Next we went to the bar where the bartender taught us how to make their Mula Metatera drink (and I put some extra Mezcal in there..lol) but that drink was also great. Then we made fresh mackerel ceviche, followed by a Gordita which is like an empanada or arepa, then made some fresh corn tacos with black tempura shrimp, followed by a pork shank with balsamic reduction on top of chicharrones with side of guacamole. The pork was phenomenal crispy skin and moist meat. We finished it off with a house made flan which was also great. I also had their Kiss of Oaxaca which was even better than my 1st two drinks, and I didn’t think it was possible!
I highly recommend booking the cooking class here or at minimum having dinner, everything was excellent!

Wow! I researched for over a month for the best cooking class in Cabo and came across this gem of a place. It's in a little bit of a hidden area which was hard to find, but not totally impossible. Our chef Hector and waiter Osvaldo made our party of three so welcome and the whole process from making the Mescal Mule, the tour of the property, then cooking and assembling our meals was amazing. I have been raving about this experience for days and I am so thankful to have found this place.

Chef was great, unfortunately they book far too many people and it took too long for each segment. They need to cut the size down to at least half the size they book. We ended up leaving before eating as we were starving and could not bare it any longer.

I am sure if you contacted the restaurant they could accommodate you but we didn’t pick the menu. We did make homemade corn tortilla though. I guess you can’t be too picky for the experience. It is authentic Mexican food so if that is not for you this might not be the experience you are looking for.
