During our stay in Canada we spent a lot of time on Gondolas but this was definitely well worth the visit. We pre-booked well in advance and went early in the morning, I would strongly recommend this.

Although it wasn't excessively busy when we were there, clearly they are geared up to handle huge volumes of visitors. We were staying at the Rimrock resort which is within a 5 minute walk but during busy times cars were parked way down the mountainside for the gondola and hot springs.

Views from the mountain top are incredible and expansive walkways help give a sense of space and isolation.

I am terrified of heights. There, I said it. I absolutely hate being up high – ziplining, gondolas, ski lifts, ferris wheels etc – they all terrify the snot out of me, and it takes a heck of a lot to get me to do these things.
however, I am very much a believer that some experiences cannot and should not be missed.
I have never been to the Rocky Mountains before – and considering it took this many years to get me there now, This had that once in a life time – feel for me. So I put on my big boy pants, and faced my fears.
Getting to the top of gondola was SOOO worth it. The views were spectacular, the beauty was endless. If I had let my fear of heights prevent me from experiencing this, I would have kicked myself. The magnificence of being up there is just so breathtaking.
The ride is very safe – enclosed, and very little swaying/rocking as you go up. The views from the cart are lovely – as long as you don’t keep your eyes closed the whole way up. 

The cost can be found online – and let me say – if you are even questioning the price – STOP! Just do it. The scenery and views are EPIC.

The staff are very friendly and engaging.

When in Banff – take the gondola ride and experience the views from the top of the mountain.

You can hike to the top – if you are adventurous – I hear it takes about 1-2 hours depending upon your skill level. And then you can take the Gondola back down for free (so I have heard).

The views at the top were incredible, especially at the Sulphur Mountain cosmic ray station. The sky bistro had some great food but I would recommend placing an reservation before you hike to the top. Met Pia from Germany who was a lovely guide and convinced me to visit the gondola again.

As a group of 10 with ages from 12-65 we booked the combo gondola ride and Northern Lights buffet. I recommend booking in advance if you plan to eat up top (which has an amazing view), as we noticed the restaurant was fully booked and seating was only given to those with reservations. Overall it was a nice trip and view, but only about half of our group felt that they would choose to do this again; the price didn't seem worth the value to everyone. In fairness, we had a few in the group that had aversions to heights so that didn't help the experience.

First of all, the views themselves were incredible! The reason for three stars is mostly because of how difficult it was to get to base. The free shuttle system is terrible. The driver was SO RUDE to a very large group because he couldn’t fit everyone. I understand there are only so many seats on the shuttle, but there was no way the shuttle could stop at the second stop because there already weren’t enough seats for everyone waiting at the first stop. And they go nothing to inform you if you are waiting at the second stop. We were waiting at the train station stop and only knew to try for the other stop because someone who has tried it earlier stopped to tell us the shuttle probably wouldn’t show up. When we did find the shuttle, the driver deliberately ignored us instead of trying to explain how the system works and basically just won’t accommodate everyone, even if you have tickets for the gondola. We did eventually get to the base and found parking but we were super lucky. Others we met without their own cars did end up getting to the base via Roam transit, but basically the gondola should not advertise a free shuttle when your chances of getting on it are slim. If they can’t guarantee you can get there or park there at your designated time, they shouldn’t sell you a ticket with a designated time. And they need to do a better job of hiring people who will explain the process instead of just acting like an @$$.

Also, the time slots are too long. You shouldn’t have to stay at the top for two and a half hours. I’m pregnant and have a toddler and I got really sick while we were at the top and it was a huge pain to get our time slot switched so we could get down sooner.

Overall, the views are amazing but there were other views with easier ways to access them where you wouldn’t be stuck up top for longer than you want.

This was a good trip up the mountain. Our travel company had not given us enough time to spend at summit and were able to easily amend ticket for journey time. We were early morning and disappointed by lack of food offer available as we had planned to have breakfast at peak and could only get coffee. We also learned restaurant was booked out for lunch so advice would be to check availability

Hi Discover00096243171, We are happy to hear that you had a good trip up the mountain. I am so sorry to hear that your tour guide did not give you enough time to explore and relay the correct information about the food and beverage opening times at the top of the mountain. We appreciate your tip to future Gondola visitors to check availability as restaurant walk-ins get booked up quickly. It is important to make a reservation if you are planning on eating in one of our restaurants. We hope to see you again soon. Have a great night. Kind regards, Gandi

The Banff Gondola is very close to the town of Banff. The best way to get there is to park the car at the train station for free, walk for about 10 minutes to the bus stop, and take the shuttle bus to the Gondola. The price of the bus was 5 dollars for my entire family with small kids (free). On the top of the Gondola ride, there is small trail that leads to many great view points.

Originally this ride seemed pretty expensive, but since the weather was supposed to be sunny for a few days, we took a chance and were so happy we did. We hadn't realized the building at the top housed so many interesting exhibits and a balcony with breathtaking vistas. Parking was ample (and free) and friendly staff kept the queue moving quickly. The ride itself was smooth with clean windows allowing great viewing. Although the boardwalk from the building to Sansons Peak isn't owned by the same company, it's directly linked and we might have missed that adventure if we hadn't taken the ride up there. We also scored some great souvenirs using the Buy One-Get the Second 50% promo in their 2 shops.

Hello Paula B, thank you for a sensational review. We are so glad you had such a great time at the Banff Gondola! We are so glad you had such a great time up here and that the weather was so good for you. We always encourage our guests to buy their tickets online at least 48 hours in advance for cheaper prices. We do also offer a range of packages bundling attractions for cheaper rates as well. Thanks for taking the chance! We have so much to offer up here and we're happy you got to experience it all (including the boardwalk) on such a beautiful day with clear viewing in the gondolas. Online tickets are prioritized for parking and we have a range of alternative options for transportation to the lower terminal. We are glad your parking experience was a good one! We hope your souvenir bargains will help remind you of your great experience while with us up here at the Banff Gondola and we look forward to seeing you again in the future. Have a wonderful day! Kind regards, Gandi.

Awesome views but don't count on the restaurants. I booked this months in advance and it said there were food options. While in line it shows 3 places to eat. We got up there enjoyed our time and then went to eat we were told it opened at 11, so we sat and waited. When doors opened 20 min later we were asked if we had reservations as they were not taking walk-ins. This is not acceptable as we planned our trip based on lunch up there and to make us wait only to tell us we needed reservations the lack of communication is very upsetting. As now we are on the hunt for lunch in town. Tried to talk to manager and was told to just leave a review. Terrible service.

We've been skiiig all over North America but the view from the top of the Banff Gondola was simply breathtaking! They run an efficient operation for certain. We took the #1 line from Banff Ave tot he gondola. I'd recommend parking on the lot on Beaver and Wolf versus the train station, especially if you are running tight on time. It becomes a bit of an undertaking to park, walk 4 blocks and try to catch the bus at the train station (free parking) that only comes once an hour. The lot I recommended is about 20 yards from Banff ave where there are busses every 20 minutes to the gondola (and placed to get coffee when you're waiting). Regardless- this is a MUST DO tour....and the Sky Bistro view was unparalleled (just book early!!)
