      Fun Experience!
This was a fun time. We opted for only doing the Planetarium as the night sky stays light so late you’d need to go later in the evening to use the telescope and that didn’t work with our schedule. Nicole was wonderful. She went above and beyond in explaining everything and was as sweet as can be. She made our experience quite memorable.

Worth it especially on a clear night
I liked how they split up the group so we weren’t all in a small room. The presentations that they each did was very informative. Since the night I went was cloudy, I liked knowing that I have 2 years to come back on a clear night at no cost.

      Interesting
Planetarium tour. Enjoyed it was interesting but the guide talked far too fast and we couldn't really pick up a lot of what he was saying . We were the last tour of the day so maybe he was tired. Was good show though

Definitely worth an hour of one’s time when in Jasper.
It’s been maybe 50 years since I’ve been to a planetarium. Very enjoyable way to spend an hour. Guide was excellent and very upbeat.

A beautiful evening under Jasper skies
A very enjoyable experience with excellent guides Gabby, Nicole Caitlin and Devon. We were lucky to have a wonderful clear night with both visual and Electronically assisted views with large 20 inch Dobsonian telescope. Well worth the visit. . DRESS WARM, Even a warm day will get very cool into the night especially a clear one.

Shout out to the excellent guide/host of the Dome Planetarium at Jasper.
We recently enjoyed the Dome Theatre Planetarium experience and were blown away. What absolutely made it was the enthusiastic presentation by Caitlin. She had a beautiful speaking voice that perfectly conveyed the excitement of the Cosmos. We were entranced.

Better for those that know little about the night sky
If you have gone to planetarium shows before this part of the night will basically be a re-hash of what you already know. If you know nothing about the stars, then you'll probably like it a lot. I did appreciate that the presenter was enthusiastic and the addition of an indigenous elder talking about the constellations was good. I did enjoy looking at the stars through the telescopes. We had a really clear night and a basically new moon. Saturn was really crisp. I liked seeing and learning about the star clusters as I've never seen them before. I did think the telescope with the camera was cool. We asked the guy lots of questions and he moved it around quite a bit for us-most people had moved on already. Then we went onto the golf course and our guide reshowed us the clusters and how to find them with binoculars ourselves (wish I could remember now that I am home!). He also covered other stars and basic sky info. We did catch a little of the Aurora but it was low on the horizon. The whole thing is outside so dress warmly. But, while it may be a dark sky preserve, it is not nearly as dark as I had hoped. There are way too many lights still. We have been to places like Bryce Canyon and even parts of Nova Scotia and the sky is so full of stars I could not even find the big dipper.

Fabulous experience seeing stars planets and constellations through powerful telescopes. Amazing bright young guides .
The whole experience was fantastic. Looking at stars, constellations and planets through various telescopes was amazing. All the staff were amazing - intelligent and made complicated things easy for mere mortals to understand. Our walk with Diego and using our own binoculars was a real highlight. Such a nice funny helpful guy! It was definitely a highlight of a 6 week trip inCanada and America despite the late night and the cold .

The planetarium portion of the tour was very informative. Our presenter Gabby was very professional and friendly and took us on a journey from the local indigenous legends to the far corners of the cosmos!
It was still cool to see all the astronomy kit and play around with real meteorites during the scope portion of the tour. Unfortunately the clouds came over but we still got a decent view of the moon. Will, Will and Miguel were very knowledgeable guides and some of the most affable lads you'll ever meet. It was great to be able to chat with them and ask questions.
All in all I'd recommend this tour to anyone enamored with space and astronomy.

My friends and I decided to check out the Jasper Planetarium and we booked the Planetarium & Telescope tour. Will was an excellent presenter, he kept the group engaged, answered all questions, he seemed very knowledgeable. I enjoyed the dome experience as it taught me about the Indigenous background of the constellations. I also enjoyed learning about the Aurora Borealis and the space rocks exhibit. It was cloudy out so we couldn't see the stars with the telescopes but we're guaranteed a free return within 2 years. I will definitely go back with my friends!

We enjoyed the experience a lot. The show was in a very comfortable setting and the guide/presenter was very knowledgeable and for forty-five minutes, she made a wonderful presentation on the nightly sky and stars and also local tales. Afterwards, my eleven-year-old stopped at the gift shop and was able to solve a Rubik's cube with pictures of stars and the moon on it under five minutes in front of the staff and his friends. He was so proud of it and bought the cube and played with it the whole day. Unfortunately, it slipped out of his pocket the next day on the ice walk and he was very upset. When I contacted the planetarium about how to purchase another one for him, the staff at the planetarium, Everly and Kayleen, were so understanding that they would ship another cube to us with no charge. I can't wait to see the smiles on my son's face when he gets it in the mail! Thanks!

    This is a tourist trap.

The lodge main lobby area is beautiful. After a few dozen steps away from the main lodge there is a small area shielded from light with fabric - the kind you find in building construction areas. Inside this area is the planetarium and the telescope viewing area.

The so called "planetarium" is a 20 ft wide dome tent with a projector inside. There are outdoor plastic chairs to sit on and listen to the narrative from a not so well informed presenter in the tent. The presentation zooms erratically and pays some token homage to native stories interpretations of the night sky. Sadly photos or videos are not allowed to capture this sad structure.

This is the first half which you could get vastly better coverage with just watching youtube and public tv channels.

For the second half of tour, there are 3 additional little tents. One tent holds sample meteorites, another one has a video of aurora borealis and a demo.

Finally the telescopes - there are 3 of them pointing to various constellations and the live camera feed to a tv screen from one of the telescopes. The other two telescopes , you get to see one pre-selected star/ nebula. This part is nice however, it is a hurried push to get as many people through. Overall very disappointing.

If you're willing to stay up late and like learning about the sky, you should consider booking this. It is very information. Everyone was very knowledgeable and professional. The telescopes used are top notch. At the end of the tour, the person manning the cashier went above and beyond to find us a particular shirt in size that we couldn't find on the shelves. Make sure you arrive early. The parking area can be a little bit of a walk and also they start right on time. No late arrivals are accepted because it would disrupt the order of the tour.

This was my raincheck visit to do the telescope tour. I did the Planetarium and Telescope Combo Tour two years ago during my stay at Jasper Park Lodge. The indoor planetarium program was most interesting and I learned more about the stars, constellations, Northern Lights and more. Unfortunately, when we went outside to view the sky through the large telescope it was cloudy and starting to rain. We couldn't use the telescope but our guides showed us amazing images taken previously through the telescope. I was offered a raincheck and had the opportunity to use it during my recent stay at Jasper Park Lodge (September 2023). This time, although it was partly cloudy, it was clear enough to see Jupiter with its moons and a cluster of stars. My guides were excellent - very knowledgeable and engaging. I hope to return to Jasper and would love to do another planetarium tour - possibly the Dark Sky Package. No one can guarantee clear skies, but the Jasper Planetarium offers a raincheck and was a highlight for me - a great opportunity to see the sky in a dark sky preserve.

Visiting the planetarium was a fun experience for the family. Gabriella gave a very entertaining story about the stars and planets in the sky with a unique Canadian perspective. Including the first nation story was a nice touch as well. The booths to explain meteorites with some hands on rock touching and how the aurora borealis works were very educational. We had a full moon when we were viewing the telescopes the numerous guides at each station still found stars for us to gaze upon and shared interesting facts about them. They had ladders to help the little kids climb up a few steps to look thru the view finder. Very family friendly experience. Just make sure you get enough sleep before it. We did a 10pm combo and left for home around 12:30am.

Kudos to team Jasper Planetarium and Alberta University Astronomy department. Sophie and Katrina were great Astro grad students with amazing voice, who took us to the depth of space in planetarium with live commentary, than a usual recorded one in other places. It was a great experience by seeing and touching real moon and mars rocks, understanding aurora photography, seeing nebulae and star clusters in real time in manual and automated, large mirror telescopes. You will be greeted with green lake, deer and beautiful fairmont backyard. Don’t miss this in Jasper.

Upon arriving at the venue we were immediately greeted by staff an put into a large group of around 20 people.

We were walked to the top secret location in the dark which just happened to be the staff car park behind the kitchen bins. Apparently this is the best place in the local area for star gazing :).

We were then led into what can only be described as a tent and sat down in some cheap garden furniture where a low quality and entirely un-inspiring video was played for us while a staff member narrated over it. I would mention what the video was about but it was that tedious I cant remember.

Anyways that killed about 45 minutes and then we were taken back outside and were given some pre rehearsed lessons by the members of staff about different constellations etc. We were also invited to look through some telescopes at different stars.

The staff were actually quite good, knowledgeable and obviously passionate about what they were dong however when we did this tour at the end of June it was quite a light night and we could barely see anything worthwhile. Maybe on a darker night in the winter I would have enjoyed it more but standing in a dark car park near the hotel bins talking about the stars is not my idea of a magical evening.

Overall I would not recommend this. Mostly because of the price. At most for me it would not be worth more than $20. Maybe if it was a darker night and there was more to see I could justify paying what we paid but I will give it a miss next time I visit.

Would 100 % recommend this as a must see on your trip to Jasper! I would recommend doing it early in the trip as the guides give really useful information about the town, where best to see the stars, aurora, wildlife. Our guides Garrett, Gerry and Shane were really enthusiastic and knowledgeable, happy to answer Qs.
We got to experience things actively, not just taking in passively. It was cool to learn about and use the telescopes and the planetarium was a great experience.
Would recommend going early as the Fairmont grounds are large and parking (for RV) is about a 7-10 min walk from the hotel reception, where tour counter is located.
