- philliptW5368RP0 contributionsEntertaining and InsightfulLoved our tour of downtown Vancouver with our guide Rob, who was wonderfully entertaining. My husband and I were visiting from Chicago for the first time and learned many things about the city that we wouldn't have found on our own. We especially enjoyed the private tour of the beautiful deco Marine Building that we wouldn't have been able to see inside as it was a Sunday. The pastries and chocolates were a nice addition and we went back to the stores later in our trip to buy more. Thanks Rob for an exemplary experience!Written October 23, 2024
- vovaen0 contributionsThank you, Mr. Pinkhat! The experience with Glenn was genuinely extraordinary. His storytelling abilities are unmatched, and it's a delight to see him thriving in his vocation. He possesses a wealth of knowledge and is a walking encyclopedia, providing information that even Dr. Google can't offer. With impeccable diction and a voice that commands attention without amplification, Glenn's easygoing nature and fantastic sense of humour make for an engaging and entertaining experience. Unlike other guides, he is approachable and open-minded, creating an inclusive and enjoyable environment. He is not as snobby as some other guides I've met.Written October 8, 2024
- AndriyGulakov0 contributionsChief Executive StorytellerIt was simply out of the box/ballpark and over the roof. Glenn is a natural-born storyteller, and I'm so happy he makes a living from his vocation rather than occupation. He is a bottomless fount of knowledge and a walking archive of all Dr. Google doesn't know/show/have. He has impeccable diction and a voice loud enough to work without a microphone and screaming. Our group had a great time celebrating a birthday with this spooky Gastown Walking Tour! Eric, our guide, couldn't have been better at bringing the stories to life and as people that grew up here, we learned a lot of facts that we didn't know. I highly recommend this walking tour as something safe and fun to do during the pandemic. All precautions are taken and you never feel at risk. Thanks Eric for making our birthday celebration something to remember!

It was my partner's birthday and I was struggling to find something we could do that would bring his friends together but in a way that was social distanced and safe. Forbidden Walking Tours to the rescue! They don't normally operate on Monday's but I emailed the to see if I could arrange a private tour. They were incredibly accommodating. The tour has been adapted to be fully outside and they are following provincial orders by ensuring that all guests stay distanced and are wearing masks. The staff even helped to organize keeping it a surprise from my partner which was greatly appreciated. Our guide was terrific, adaptable (they were filming a tv show in the area so he had to work around the film crews) and it was so great to hear some interesting tales about the city that we call home. And if you're concerned at all about weather, don't be. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance. Can't recommend highly enough. Everyone in our group had a great time. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Great walking tour, it was a lot of fun! Eric (or George—his character name) was our guide, he is an excellent storyteller with his stellar acting. He is also very friendly and funny too. The narrative and history shared on this tour is engaging throughout the entire walk. We would definitely try another tour, as well as recommend this one if you are looking for something fun to do in Vancouver.

This tour was a lot of fun. The lady that lead the tour was great. The night we went it was cold and raining and at every stop we made she got us either inside of a building or under an awning. She was an actor that told a story and was very good at it. I recommend doing this and would do another.

We went on this tour the first night we arrived in Vancouver and it was honestly such an amazing experience and start to our vacation. Our tour guide Eric was incredibly expressive, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and humorous and was able to incorporate all audience members as well as the life in Vancouver to tell us the history of Gastown.
I’d absolutely recommend signing up for this tour; my only regret was not brushing up on my history so I could partake more!

We really enjoyed this 90 min tour through Gastown learning the history of the area with some excellent story telling as we walked through the streets at dusk. Our tour guide really embodied her character, had some wonderful pictures from back in the day and weaved us through topics of the great fire, small pox and the gold rush. This tour is less about ghost stories and more about the history of the area during the late 1700’s through the late 1800’s. Would highly recommend.

This tour is always great and was my third time taking it in five years. Alison was our guide and did an amazing job, you can tell Alison is a natural performer. Through Alison's terrific storytelling, you get a glimpse of what life was like in Vancouver during the late 1800- early 1900s. Some stories were funny, some very sombre and thought provoking. All in all go see Alison give this tour!

The actor for our tour was Eric Regimbald. He did a marvellous job of staying in character and telling the story. We learned a lot about the history of Gastown and it was very entertaining.
We were told ahead of time to wear face masks but it wasn't enforced, so it didn't feel as safe as it could have.
We had emailed ahead of time to ask what fitness level was required and were told it was for all levels. In fact, it was very hard for some of our family who needed to walk a bit slower. There was a long walk between each of the stops and it was a pretty strenuous evening. The guide should have been more aware of how well the group were following and slowed down a bit.

Hello Boshkungmama,
Thank you for taking a moment to write a review and provide your feedback on how we can improve our experiences.
It sounds like you enjoyed Eric's performance very much and that you found the tour entertaining. We are so happy to have Eric on our team, he is a brilliant actor and a lovely person!
We're sorry to hear that some of the members of your group found the walk strenuous. We do our very best as guides to remain at the walking pace that feels comfortable for all of our guests, as we don't want anyone to feel left behind or that they need to push themselves unnecessarily. When we build our tours, we do keep in mind the walking route and try to keep the walks short and mainly flat or downhill, though of course avoiding hills in Vancouver isn't always possible.
In terms of our safety measures, we are working within provincial guidelines and recommendations on maintaining a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Our experience is entirely outdoors, which does mitigate the risk of transmission. To make guests feel more comfortable, masks are encouraged and we have had a lot of guests opt to wear theirs, however we do not enforce mask wearing as we are outside and guests are remaining close to their personal groups and maintaining distance between themselves and anyone they do not know. Social distancing is strictly enforced on our tours and our guides have been asked to allow for more walking time due to guests spreading out during the walks between stops.
If you have any further concerns or comments, we would like to hear from you. Please email us at info@forbiddenvancouver.ca and we'll do what we can to make this right!
All the best to you,
The Forbidden Vancouver Team

We went on the 'Lost Souls of Gas Town' tour which I believe is held every evening (twice on Thurs-Sat).
This was a great way to learn more of the history of Vancouver whilst also seeing the sights of Gas Town.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and really brought the history to life, the tour has clearly been well constructed. It's a mix of real events/people and some fictional characters to bring it all together into one narrative.
It was easy to find the meeting place for the tour and a relaxing couple of hours, but bear in mind you will be on your feet for the duration, if you have any mobility issues.
On the whole, it was great value for money for what we got and very convenient and easy to book during our brief visit to the city.

Is alcohol available on the tour? If not are we allowed to bring our own during the tour?

I would say the same, this tour is walking in Gastown on public streets were alcohol is not allowed. The end of the our is in the midst of Gastown entertainment area with restaurants and pubs one beside each other ... about 20 or more.
And nothing else but the narration is provided on the tour: it is not food or drinks involved.
