- jamesj75pet0 contributionsStunning Sights! Heady Heights! Great, Genial Guide! What a Ride! The Whistler and Sea to Sky Gondola Tour was absolutely fantastic! It far exceeded our already high expectations for two main reasons: (1) the incredible landscape at every turn; (2) informative, humorous, detailed commentary by our guide, Derek. The ride along the coast provided gorgeous views of the inlet, mountains, waterfalls, rapids, Howe Sound, Whistler Village, and the entire Squamish area. We were quite impressed with the gondola ride and its trails, including a sky bridge. Derek is truly an extraordinary gentleman who went the extra mile to provide his guests with a rewarding experience. He graciously answered questions, gave directions for trails, and offered to take photos. Our driver Charlie was also a gracious, welcoming host. He couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. The time at Butchart gardens was only 90 minutes, which we would have dearly loved more time, as it is amazing. We got off at Victoria as we were staying there and didn’t travel back to Vancouver, so couldn’t comment on the 2 hours the tour had there. It would have been a taster though for sure and Victoria is a beautiful city. Fab tour 👍Written October 4, 2024

this is a marginal service, unlike other Gray line services we have used. the bus was noisy, hot, marginally clean, with bars across the windows right where you need to look out, right in your line of vision. inexcusable. plus we had to pay $23 to park in some stupid monstrous parking structure run by the city convention bureau, which was real inconvenient to get to the bus..
the salespersons a the bus curb were very unorganized and ill-equipped. the only thing they were good at was taking our $118 for two people at ease. we never got a receipt and i had to threaten the sales turkey with having to ride on the bus with us to show we paid. unbelievable. the day was hot and the air stifling on the open air buses each time we stopped.
the only good thing about our tour was the guide, Sherry Smallwood. she's a winner.

We had tickets for 48 hours booked through our travel agent who advised there were 28 stops. There were about 16 in total on very old buses (they need upgrading as they are uncomfortable and old).
We were unable to use both days as the bus stops running around 5 p.m. We have never been in a city where they stop this early.
Our first hop on and off was run by a lady called Shiela/orLynn who overspoke the commentary and advised that to walk between Gas Town and China Town would need awareness. Thank you lovely lady for the advanced warning. There is no option to listen in any other language other than English.
To summarise - we wish we hadn't used this service.

It cost USD92 for 2 adults (Canadian dollars ring up more, so it was a nice surprise when we realized we'd forgotten about the exchange rate when we handed over our credit card. Glad we have a card with no international fees!)
We hopped on and off most off the day. It was a nice narration (recorded on some, live driver on others) as we drove around, deciding when to get on and off. With just a day to see the city, it was a great way to get the overall view and then make an informed decision on how to spend our time. We sat open top for most of the ride, until it got too cold (in May), then we moved under the plastic roof. I'd recommend it, we took the green tour which was right outside our hotel. There's a blue tour too, but that didn't seem to cover the things we wanted to see.
We stopped and walked around Stanley Park, we came back to Gastown for dinner, we got off to look at the public library (interesting architecture). Main Street/China town seems to back up to East Hastings Drive, which is a street choc full of homeless people - not pleasant! Be aware of your surroundings and stay off that particular street. The rest of Vancouver is pleasant, clean, safe and gorgeous. None of the homeless people did anything, but it just didn't feel safe.

We were a Party of 5 waiting to be "Tourists in our own town"since Spring 2020 and due to COVID-19 we finally got onboard August 14, 2020. We had a GREAT trip with commentary from Meenu. After Granville Island we were the only passengers and we stayed on board. Meenu never faltered and continued to provide lots of surprising information about the city. Art work around the city that you might easily pass. Why we have blue Fire Hydrants! Sea water! She was also great with all the passengers. She is a very safe driver for this crazy City
The bus was clean, restrictions were in place. Only open air seating was available Everyone wore masks and hand sanitizer was also available

We've taken bus tours in other cities and have never had such a terrible experience as the one in Vancouver. The buses are very old and you can barely hear the narration through the speaker system . The windows on the bus have been removed and replaced with plastic sheeting which made visibility almost nil. A sightseeing bus where you can't see the sights. Additionally, the plastic sheeting was not long enough to cover all the windows so anyone sitting towards the back (it was a rainy day) got a free shower.
There is another company running a Hop On Hop Off bus that costs $10 more. It has real windows and you can actually see out of them, what a revelation!!

It was my first time visiting Vancouver, I was happy and excited to take the tour for visiting Vancouver main attractions! I reserved the tickets for Park Route (Green Line), which passed through Stanley Park, Granville Island, Burrade Bridge, China Town and Gas Town. In the morning, I was happy that it was a sunny and warm day, which was suitable for travelling. After arriving Canada Place, the bus was quite clean and warm. The windows are clear, and I was happy that I can see the tall trees at Stanley Park through top window. In addition, Meenu was a friendly and knowledgeable driver, she kindly mentioned the map & schedule and reminded the last pick time in order to get on bus on time. During the journey, Meenu gave us the live information and elaborate the key attractive place worth for visiting and phototaking which was crucial for first time traveller in Vancouver. It really worth to join the tour!

Not worth your money. we waited two hours to hop on for the first time. At every stop after frw people got off because the lines were obviously going to be a repeat of the beginning. The prerecorded message was ok, but our first driver had given us a few more personal local facts, however, she got off at the first stop and the relief driver made it clear that he was only a relief driver. For $11 as of July 1, you can hop on and off the city bus, tram or seabus and ho anywhere in town you want. Do that!

We have ridden on Hop on Hop off buses all over the world. Most are phenomenal experiences. This tour was one of the worst that we experienced. The equipment is old and needs some TLC. The drivers were all over the map. The first driver was good. She supplemented the narrative which was often blocks behind the location of the bus. The next driver had no narrative turned on and seemed to run over every curb in Vancouver. He was also abrasive when we asked questions. We left this bus for a break. The next driver was great to a point. He waited for us while we ran to the stop. He carried a great narrative as the canned narrative did not seem to be working. He made excellent suggestions for Stanley park and places to eat. Unfortunately he stranded us (and a lot of other people) at stop number 8 - Granville Island, because he was going directly from 8 to 16. We planned a nice tip for him but after being dumped at stop 8, he got none, We left the bus to wait 30 minutes on one that would take us near our hotel. There was no queue management and the driver of this bus had to manage the crowd. For a tour of Vancouver, I recommend that you find someone that cares about their customers.

Did the 2 day hop-on. Have done hop-hop-off all over the world with wonderful results. Have even done Vancouver several years ago & it was great. This time however they have changed things up NOT for the better!! Tours are now done in broken down old school buses with a plastic roof and windows and nooo legroom & I’m not even tall…very uncomfortable especially men with longer legs!! We luckily had good weather so they rolled up the plastic windows & roof and we could see out. However if it was chilly & raining (which Vancouver is famous for!) there would be NO way you could see anything. The bad news for us was my daughter and 2 other people sitting in front & behind her got absolutely covered with bird poop. I know that’s not their fault but considering the amount of dries poop on the seats the need to keep the roof portion closed. at all times (definitely wear a hat. The worst was one driver named Paul we had the 2nd day who refused to let people on the bus at Granville Island where we had already been waiting 55 minutes for another bus. He started screaming at everyone “I’ve gotta go, I’ve gotta go and he drove off leaving approx 20 people waiting when there was 11 empty seats on the bus!! The buses are also in poor repair with this same one with the obnoxious driver sounding like there were NO brakes left screeching so loudly & taking huge distances to stop felt we all felt very unsafe. On top of he tried to use the intercom and it kept getting different radio stations being picked and the tape wouldn’t work so we couldn’t hear or understand anything he was saying. Someone complained and he just said “tough!!” He needs to find another line of work. Won’t use them next time I visit Vancouver 🙁

Really enjoyed this tour.
When we travel, we typically always book a hop on hop off tour for the first or second day, so we can get an overview of the city.
Whilst Vancouver's one doesnt come on a double decker like other cities (as we found out due to the overhanging trolleybus lines) it was still as good and informative as ever.
We travelled on a combination of 3 busses, and had 3 different drivers. WE ended up with 3 very different experiences.
We picked our first bus up from Canada Place, for the first bus of the day, and the commentary was over the p.a system pre recorded. it was a little behind how the bus was moving, however we still learnt alot. We rode this bus through to stop 11 (the Sandman Hotel).
The second bus we picked up shortly after from the Sandman Hotel and rode through to Stanley Park. This driver was really good. there was no P.A system as the driver gave commentary and interacted with the guests. this made for such a better experience as the personal comments topped off the normal script.
The last bus we took from Stanley Park through to Gastown. Again the driver did the commentary however he spent more time focusing on how he moved from Europe to Canada and interacting with where guests were from, that we missed out on what we thought would have been more useful local knowledge.
Overall, would highly recommend this tour as a starting point for anyone heading to Vancouver.

Written July 18, 2022
There is a train from the airport to downtown Vancouver. Outside the train station is stop 16 of the Hop On. I do not recommend the Hop On. Maybe Uber to best places like Gastown.

You can buy outside the bus stations normally or online.

You can buy your tickets at the info booth in front of Canada Place. Just tell them you want a 2 day ticket. We purchased a 1 day ticket and the next day we went back with our original receipt and, for $15 per ticket, they let us upgrade for the 2nd day.
