Our hotel concierge informed us about West Coast Sightseeing after a competitor company had sold out on this tour for the only date we had available for this excursion. Concierge said he could get us a 10% discount, but when I called West Coast Sightseeing to get additional information, I inquired about the discount and was able to get 10% off during the call when I made a reservation and paid in advance.

We took the tour on August 7, 2022. Our bus driver and guide, Alex, was EXCELLENT!!! His love of history and exceptional narratives were captivating and very informative.

The only complaint is that West Coast Sightseeing does not pick up and drop off guests at hotels near the Vancouver airport like their competitor does. Fortunately our hotel was only a few blocks from the Sky Train Richmond Brighouse station on the Canada line which was an economical way for us to go to the waterfront to meet up with the start of the tour. Alex volunteered to drop us off at a different station closer to Richmond on his way to drop off other passengers at the waterfront to save us a little time in returning to our hotel that evening.

Highly recommend this tour and West Coast Sightseeing but strongly suggest they include pick up/drop offs at hotels near the airport like competition does.

This tour is a long day because of the travel time from Vancouver city to the ferry and then to Vancouver Island and then to the main attractions and then back. But it is worth it. Sanan, our tour guide from Northern Ireland, gave interesting commentary on the bus and clear directions for when and where to meet up. And he was very easy to understand. We scheduled our own Afternoon Tea at the Empress Hotel and that worked out well. For our itinerary, 3:30pm would be a recommendation, but call Grayline and be sure they don’t change the route.
This tour gives us the motivation to go back to Victoria for a multiple day visit in the future.

An excellent trip.
We were picked up early in Vancouver to drive 45 mins to the ferry terminal.
The ferry was then around 90 mins to Vancouver Island and was unexpectedly good thanks to the ferry navigating through beautiful and very scenic islands at the US & Canada border in the sea which we very much enjoyed and the return trip was also good as the sun was starting to set as a backdrop.
We then had a shortish drive to Butchart Gardens which are beautiful - so many things to see in the various themed areas of the gardens.
After that the bus took us to Victoria as the main location on the island (Island is huge e.g 300 x 60kms) and we got to spend a leisurely couple of hours walking around the central area including Chinatown.
It is a full day trip of around 12 hours or so. Our driver and guide in one was Alex MacDougall and he was absolutely excellent throughout the whole day - so informative; so knowledgeable and so engaging throughout - many thanks Alex.
Would certainly recommend this trip if visiting Vancouver

Appalling company. We had a day trip to Victoria and Butchart Gardens which got cancelled half way through the day as the bus broke down. We got stuck at the ferry port as the bus wouldn't start up again. Although these things can't be helped, the company took so long to take action it took hours for replacement buses to be provided that the tour had to be abandoned and the guests returned to their hotels. So we lost our first day in Vancouver, having only seen the inside of a bus and a ferry port. During the time we were stuck, the communication from our driver was non-existent and the organisation from the company was very poor.

The next day, we tried to do the hop on hop off bus, which is owned by the same company. There were huge queues for the buses at each stop and very long wait times to get on the buses, because they only had 6 in operation for the whole city! After waiting 45 minutes for each bus to come, and failing to get on two buses because they were already full, we cancelled our tickets and decided to walk instead.

The Butchart gardens are unbelievable and not to be missed. In order to see them, however, you have to get to them and if you are in Vancouver that requires travel to Victoria and a ferry ride taking several hours. Our guide/bus driver Henry was very entertaining telling us about Vancouver and the history of Vancouver as he drove and his stories were interesting especially as he is a native but we did not get the amount of information that I was hoping for. That being said it was a large bus and we were sitting at the back and people near him may have gotten a lot of information that we missed. We were picked up around 10 after nine at our hotel and we didn’t get to the gardens until about 1 o’clock. We only had an hour and a half at the gardens and we certainly could’ve used more. We then went to the city of Victoria which was very nice, but once again we didn’t get a significant amount of information about the city, rather we were free to walk around for about two hours and then back on the bus for another four hours travel by bus and ferry back to our hotel. I am still very happy that we did this trip and and again reiterate that the gardens should not be missed. You should just be aware, however, that it is a lot of traveling and as far as food you are on your own within the constraints of the tour and timing. We finally got back to our hotel at 9:30 having had to cancel our dinner reservations that I had made several weeks earlier as I did not appreciate just how long the day would be.

The trip had just the right amount of sight seeing, relaxation, information and entertainment by our tour guide Alex Mac Dougall. Loved the ferry ride! Victoria was lovely and Boutchard gardens were unlike anything I’ve ever seen- do impressive. The gardens were like beautiful paintings made with flowers/ my favorite was the Sunken Garden, as recommended by our tour guide Alex MacDougall. Alex is no doubt one if the best in the business. A Canadian history major and longtime BC resident, he was able to tell us about the history of everything we could see, and made very good suggestions on how to spend our free time in Victoria. That man should give every Victoria tour! Really glad I took the tour and I highly recommend it.

We did this tour with coach driver Alex MacDougall last Friday and it was wonderful. We were picked up promptly from our hotel at 8.30am and loved every minute until we were dropped off again at just past 10pm. Our driver Alex was very amusing, helpful and amazingly informative throughout, helping everyone to plan their time spent at each stop efficiently and enjoyably.
The Butchart Gardens stop was just long enough to see everything and time for a coffee etc. The gardens themselves are gorgeous, and this is coming from someone who wasn't too bothered about going to see them to begin with. They are immaculately presented and maintained and hugely worth the visit, particularly the Hanging and Japanese gardens.
Victoria itself is lovely, well spaced out but I wish I hadn't bothered being dropped off at Chinatown, other than a nice wooden arch at the entrance it was quite disappointing as was Fan Tan Alley, these had both been previously recommended by our tour rep at the hotel and for us were a waste of a visit. Alex stops at two other places in Victoria as drop-offs and I would recommend either of these instead.
Victoria itself is a lovely airy place with a super fishermans wharf and lovely trips out and about on the tiny yellow water taxis.
I would highly recommend this trip to anybody and if you manage to get Alex as your driver you will be in for a treat.

The Garden was resplendent, especially the Japanese Garden! Though it was raining, we also enjoyed the Museum of Miniatures in Victoria and the delightful shops and eateries. We were particularly impressed that we traveled in an electric bus and that this company is working to replace its whole fleet with electric vehicles. A great day!

This is a full day trip. It takes about an hour to reach the ferry terminal and then you spend 90 minutes aboard the ferry. Upon arrival at Vancouver Island, it takes another hour to reach Butchart Gardens. These gardens are magnificent and the highlight of the trip. We had sufficient time to explore the different gardens and I was able to enjoy a gelato in the Italian garden after my exploration. Next we had a short tour of the city of Victoria and then our guide gave us time to explore the downtown area on our own. I used the time to visit the Royal BC Museum and then explored the Inner Harbour. I was able to get dinner aboard the ferry back to the mainland. It was a long day, but well worth it.

Had an excellent tour with Alex of Butchart Gardens and Victoria. We were picked up across the street from our hotel, whisked to another bus, the bus went on the ferry, it was a beautiful boat ride (food available). Grey Line took very good care of everyone, including some passengers with walkers and a wheelchair. Alex provided historical commentary on the bus. From the ferry, there is another ride in the same EV bus to the gardens, and then a couple of hours free to tour on your own (food available at the gardens, but long lines). From there, the bus to Victoria, with more commentary, then a couple of hours free to shop, eat, wander before a return to the ferry for another beautiful ride, then bus to hotel. The best of tour guiding and time on your own. It is a very long day. Advise bringing water and snacks, to maximize garden time, especially, and a good jacket for outside on the ferry, if you want to enjoy those views. Thanks to Alex for a care free day!
